I am pretty sure that Silvers Rayleigh has given himself over to civilians so they can collect his bounty and then escaped and then split the bounty with said civilians. You cannot convince me this has not happened atleast TWICE.

Oda did draw Garp as a kid in a SBS. He was a rough and roudy kid like Luffy, Ace and Sabo, riding a tiger he had beaten with a pipe in one hand and a treasure chest in the other.

Most of one piece characters can have a spin-off series of either their background, or their future adventures, or both. That's how good Oda is at crafting characters, in my opinion.

50 years was probably a more dangerous time, like the death of brooks entire crew, and with Rocks running around and how pirates had a much less romantic view to them so I doubt they wanted to be pirates because they didn't have great idols like Roger, Rayleigh etc. So I definitely agree it was much more noble looking to be a marine then.

I see Garp I click. Forever in my top 5 fav characters in one piece and an extremely underrated character in my opinion. The amount of care that goes into writing this character is amazing

My guess is that Garp's back story is all about him coming across some celestial dragons (he probably did some luffy type stuff at this age), had a series of crazy adventures leading to Garp being in a relationship with a celestial dragon, joining the marines (perhaps to save his son? you take me, but my son is free?) and dragon goes off to live his life and his wife dies? That seems tragic enough for one piece.

People tend to underestimate Garp when comparing him to the current Admirals.

Two things you forgot in this video. 1. Garp had the scar when he was a little kid in the drawing Oda did of him, as a little kid, and 2. Oda confirmed in either an SBS or a Vivre card that Luffy wanted to be a pirate before Shanks ever came to Foosha, so he was not inspired by Shanks, Shanks is just the reason he wants to be the KING of the pirates

Could Garp have joined "because" his lover was pregnant? If she was a commoner or another marine, it would have brought in a stable source of income during the pregnancy and helped him raise his family. If she was a celestial dragon, then maybe that was basically to bind him to the government. I.E "You want to be with her? you want to be with your child? Then you have to become one of us!"

I always felt like garp was a pirate turned marine because of either a tragic loss or by force to protect something or someone

in regards to Dragon being born 3 months after Garp joined the Marines: that's not necessarily true! it's not like Oda said "Dragon was born the second that Garp became 23", but, rather, his age means that it was sometime when Garp was 23. therefore, it could actually be, at maximum, 14-15 months (if we assume that Garp joined the Marines around his birthday), with 3 months being more so an absolute minimum

Here’s an idea, what if a female celestial dragon decided Garp was gonna sire her a child because of his notoriety as a young rising marine rookie. The reason he doesn’t really talk about her could be he was kinda forced into it because of her status and the reason he refuses to become an admiral and take orders from the celestial dragons is because he was used and discarded by Dragons mother. Could also explain his relationship with Dragon a bit how he doesn’t really talk about him that much, not that he doesn’t love or like his son but he’s a reminder of his affiliation with the celestial dragons and what they done to him. Kinda a dark spin, but seeing how Garp has the will of D and seeing how a lot of the celestial dragons look down upon anyone who isn’t a celestial dragon it could make sense. Kinda just running with the idea if Monkey D Dragon was of a celestial dragon bloodline

16:20 I saw a theory about Garp not being the father of Dragon, but a father-in-law. So the duaghter of Garp is Luffy's mom witch might comes from a celestial dragon's womb, and it makes sense as Garp joined the marine, they introduce a higher-up on the Celestial Dragon as a wife. That will put Luffy technically a descendant of a Celestial dragon.

Do you think it would be a coincidence if the day that Garp joined the navy is also the day that Roger asked Rayleigh to help him turn the world up-side down.

Judging from the SBS photo of Garp as a kid perhaps his backstory was like Mowgli from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book and was adopted by a marine

Garp gave Luffy the same upbringing as he had. From the only picture we have it's clear that Garp was a wild child. Garp also had the scar next to his eye at that young age. So maybe it's self inflicted like Luffy or maybe it's a bit more sinister. I think that Garp first met Tsuru and Sengoku somewhere in the Grandline and that joining the marines is a plan that Sengoku came up with since he is a masterfull tactitian. The plan was to change the system from the inside, while keeping the D clan out of the picture so the WG would not enact a purge, effectively maintaing the current freedom the world has and improving it through legal means. The main reason for Garp to go ahead with the plan might actually be that he wanted to have a kids that got a better upbringing than him. It could be that Garp was a wild child because his parents where hiding from the WG. I reckon that Garp already knew about the D clan history (at least his own clan's) when joining the marines and if not then Sengoku informed him since i expect Sengoku's full name to be Gol D. Sengoku. (The Buddha fruit being the Devil fruit held by the leader of the clan) Dragon's mother is just a guessing game but if Dragon was born only 1 year after Garp joined the marines than i think its more likey she is another D member than a Tenryubito. My theory is that Dragon's name comes from the D clan that Garp is the current head off namely the Azure Dragon clan of the East (the uo uo no mi was probably the Devil fruit of the leader of the Azure dragon clan before the void century). You can also quite easiy connect the other main D family's to the other Celestial Beasts. (Portgass - vermillion Bird, Marshall/Xebec - white tiger, Trafalgar - Black turtle) Garp becoming Luffy's guardian might be similar to Ace's situation since we saw that he took Ace under his care after directly being informed by Gol D.Roger (the dad). So i actually think that in Luffy's case Garp was informed not by Dragon but Luffy's mom to take care of Luffy in case anything might happen to her. I suspect that the WG learned that she was a member of the Gol D. clan and assasinated her. But unlike with Roger i think Garp knew Luffy's mom quite well since i suspect that Luffy's mom is Sengoku's daughter. (Afro Luffy being foreshadowing ofcourse) This means that the battle of marineford was a battle that had all the Clan Leaders of the various D clans participating. And this also means that we currently have an Azure dragon (Kaido) duking it out with a Gold Dragon (Luffy) in Wano.

What if Garp fell in love with one of the slaves of the Celestial Dragons? Leading to the death of the slave or something, causing this hate from Dragon (maybe a facial tattoo is a symbol of that, and the Dragon name similar to the Snow surname from GoT) also causing the rift between Garp and Dragon. As well as Garp has actively opposed his grandson's decisions to be pirates, but he has never spoken out against his Son's decisions afaik.

Personally, I think it'd be neat if Garp had a rough childhood because of pirates. We've seen that many, I'd argue the overwhelming majority are the more real-world type. Plunder, pillage, make people miserable so they can be a little bit happier. Especially in an age before Roger when the strongest pirate was a guy like Xebec, I can see him growing up on some no-name island, losing everything (except maybe Sengoku and Tsuru) and deciding "Never Again." The marines are bad, yeah, but not all of them are. If they were people wouldn't support the world government so blindly. Be neat to see a time when the government was less established, closer to being the "good" guys just by comparison because things were pretty much a free for all and pirates were almost all just scum and villainy instead of romantic adventurers.

I think Garp is the most well written character in the series. I would love a prequel novel on his early days as a Marine

Dragon was born when Garp was roughly 23, meaning that Garp joined marines when his wife was pregnant. So, I think Garp fell in love when he was 22. The girl he loved said that she can't be a wife of a pirate/criminal (whom, I assume, Garp was at the time). And Garp gives her a promise that he will become a good man and to prove that he will join marines. And I think that promise is the reason why he never left marines even after learning how WG and marines are corrupt. I don't get why people think that Garp met his wife after joining marines, if Dragon was born roughly after he joined. I think he was born 7-9 month after Garp joined, and Garp was 22 and few month old when he joined marines.

I'd like to point out that even in Japan a man can take his wife's family name (especially if she is from a prominent family and he is not) and Garp has never called Dragon his son, only refering to Luffy as 'my kid's kid.' I honestly think that Dragon married Garp's Daughter and had Luffy.

Luffy met Shanks before he met Dadan. The only reason he hated Dadan in the beginning is because of the mountain bandits who mocked Shanks.

My theory is: Garp was naive when he was younger and thought the WG did only or mostly good things. The mother of dragon was a Celestial Dragon (but a kind one) and Garp joined forces with Roger to protect her (and the other CD) from Rocks. But since Garp is of low birth the other CD sentenced Dragons mother to death for having a son with someone like him. Since then Garp hated them.

Each video can be like a chapter review foe each cover series. Most One Piece youtube channels just briefly mention them during a chapter review but none have made videos actually dedicated to each cover series which is cannon

I think a cool movie ideas would be a 2 hour+ movie about Garp and Roger during their childhoods and lives as a marine and pirate. A two sides of the same coin story. The climax could be the battle at God Valley and then in a potential sequel would show the last few years before Roger’s execution, with Roger’s execution being the end of the movie.

I don't think at any point it has been confirmed that Dragon is Garp's son per se. For example during post Enies Lobby, Garp only talked about Dragon as Luffy's dad, so there is a possibility that Dragon is only Garp's son-in-law.
