My theory is that Hanafuda will show up again as part of Blackbeard's grand fleet with the T-Rex zoan. I personally think that Hanafuda might be the "old friend" that was mentioned in Page One's and Ulti's backstory. I mean, Kaido DID have a lot of Ancient Zoans, Hanafuda hunted for Zoan Fruits, the King of Beasts and the King of the Lizards... There's a lot there, is all I'm saying.

Everyone here assuming Hanafuda has the T. rex zoan, when I'm looking at a guy with a huge spike-ball and thinking we haven't seen an ankylosaur zoan yet. Some of the ankylosaurids even had huge, spiked shoulders like he does.

I like how you discussed the possible, connections to Kaido and the zoan fruits but I would like to pose a different theory. What if Hanafuda had a Paramecia-type devil fruit that allowed him to push animals to their evolutionary limits? So the reason he is called The King of Lizards is not because he dealt with zoan fruits but instead pushed lizards and other reptiles to their evolutionary limits turning them into dragons. Why lizards is because they come in all sorts of sizes and such and with over 7,000 species imagine the amount of different dragons he could make. This is not even getting into the idea of him giving the lizard's devil fruits, such as the one-piece equivalent of the Komodo Dragon being given the Nagi Nagi no Mi and then turned into a massive 200-meter-long dragon while retaining the venom glands that can produce a silent area around itself. I feel like that would be a more likely reason to be given the title of King of the Lizards along with being more distinct than being a Warlord version of Kaido.

This might take place not long after Hanafuda's defeat * Got scarred by Ace and becomes the Man Marked by Flame * Escaped prison after his warlord status got abolished, escaped, got freaking angry and say "fck it I'm gonna find the one piece myself" and snatch the red poneglyph in Fishman Island. I like to think that, just like you said, Hanafuda secretly worked for Kaidou (I like to think that he was one of the Tobi Roppo). Also, I like to think that defeating him is what resulted in Ace traveling to Wano in the first place where he then decided to help those whose loved once were kidnapped by Kaido's men which resulted in him going to Onigashima.

It makes sense that there is connection between Hanafuda and Kaidoo. Kaidoo's underlings and associates were named after playing cards or card games, even Doffy was known as Joker. Then there is of course Kaidoo's Fish-fish fruit, carp also known as koi. And hanafuda has the koi-koi. I guess there Oda might have had somekind of story involving card games rules or stories or however the game is played. If those two are Hanafuda's kids then maybe there was love story same level as Senor Pink. I mean the double meaning of koi. Despite Hanafuda's edgy look he had huge soft spot for his family and vowed to his dying wife to protect their kids. Then Ace as fiery meteor came down and destroyed the Lizard king. So sad, so hard boiled.

Hey Tekking, do you think it's possible that Hanafuda's defeat is what could have led Ace to getting an invitation to Warlords. In the Ace Light novels, we introduced to a marine girl named Isuka, who had a connection to Ace even giving Ace a letter by the Gorosei an acceptance letter to join the Warlords.

Hanafuda seems like a in no way a “card” (a clownishly person) which his design with the metal & his weapon it would be interesting if he had the Ankylosaurus Devil Fruit, & would have been interesting of a character where I could see him wanting revenge against Ace so he goes after Luffy & the Straw Hats along with his crew which I can see them being named after the flowers/ months of each hanafuda suits
