Superior Performance :
Each socket has a high-torque 6-point design that grips flat sides of fasteners, not corners, preventing round-off. Needing just 5 degrees of swing to operate, the smooth, finely geared 72-tooth ratchet isn't limited by tight spaces. When the going gets rough, the long 18 inch breaker bar offer loads of leverage to loosen stuck lug nuts and rusted bolts with ease.
Organized Storage :
The tough carrying case keeps everything neat and organized. Making the most of the space, two built-in parts trays hold things you're working on or extra tools you want to keep with the set.
16-piece 1/2 inch drive shallow sockets (6 point) - 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 13/16, 7/8, 15/16, 1, 1-1/16, 1-1/8, 1-3/16, 1-1/4, 1-5/16 inch

Tekton has changed the entire industry. Even hardcore professionals are seeing the value in Tekton. 2 of the mechanics in our shop have practically shed tears that Tekton wasn't available when they bought their tools. We're talking about many many thousands of dollars wasted on nominally better tools. And for me speaking from experience, I have gotten warranty replacement faster with Tekton than with snap on

@@justinbriggs7560 snap on flank drive sockets seem to grip better but even here in the rust belt I don’t notice that much I’ve never had a job yet that I just needed flank drive, as long as they fit well enough it will be fine, and tekton stuff is very hard to break with a great warranty

@@sandman7849 I would say my Tekton sockets that are less than a year old and rounding internally would disagree. They see heavy use, but my Proto sockets are a couple decades old and show little to no wear and my Snap On sockets are about the same age as the Tekton, but also show no wear. I’m going to try their warranty process to replace the worn sizes, but I’m not impressed by their longevity.

I have this set. I absolutely love it it is the best socket set I've ever used. I love that there are no size skips. The sockets themselves fit perfectly zero slop when engaged on a fastener. If you want to upgrade ratchets for some serous torque I recommended Tekton's 24" long 1/2" drive ratchet. While more of the big sizes will be required when working on trucks Its not just trucks that use big sizes. Cars too will require some of them. For example the CV Axel on many cars will use 32 mm.

I've been using that same set for a few years now. I'm very happy with it other than the 72 tooth ratchet. They (1/4, 3/8, & 1/2, I purchased all three sets) would almost always change directions by themselves when using. So I upgraded the ratchets to SO.

If you can order direct, yes. The company says that they will honer their guarantee for both US and Canadian citizens, no matter where you get the tools from, even if from a flea market. They tell me they will soon make it possible for Canadians to also order direct. I did use a Tekton authorized seller on Amazon, but the company told me it would not matter where we got them; North America is covered. They are the best tools I have had my hands on for awhile. The same day, some "blemished", precision American made tools arrived. About half price, on some the name removed. One of the last precision tool manufacturers. PEC I ordered a 4 piece combination square set, having SAE and Metric, and an extra 18 inch ruler. As soon as you put these in your hands, ignoring blemishes, you know you are holding a better tool than any combination square that came from a big box store. I had to get my blemished set through Ebay, also an authorized seller, for these PEC tools.

You will be hard pressed to find another set from other manufacturers to even compare to. For sure, make sure you get the new sets and not the old ones, for the better ratchet (I also like how the new smaller sockets neck down, compared to the old ones). I still haven't bought this set, but it is high on my list of need to have. I am sorta glad I waited so that I can get these new improved versions.

As a mobile forklift technician I cannot stress how much I love the tekton sets. I go into customers alot and can only bring so much without taking multiple trips and I can throw a 1/2 kit, multimeter and an impact gun in a standard size northface backpack and do 90% of my job. And the kits don't go to shit when they rattle around in your van all day

You call this a budget value set for a beginner. Let me start off by saying I bought the 3/8 sae + metric set for a friend sight unseen, when I got it I was comparing it to my own made in The USA Craftsman set that I've owned for 30+ years and I found the sockets to be of equal quality in my opinion. The ratchet is much better though The Craftsman's ratchets of that era weren't anything to write home about. SO anyone reading this don't be fooled by "budget value set for a beginner" Tekton is making a high quality tool that should last you for years.

I've used Craftsman for years and the old ratchets I've kicked rusty tire lugs off with a 1/2" Craftsman .Today's Craftsman since they left USA have been junk you would strip gear for sure .Highly doubt that Tekton yester year or today is even close to the quality of Old Craftsman ratchets .

@@michaelkolbe5963 Honestly I wouldn't even try to take a rusty lug off manually. With that said I don't believe my 34 year old 1/2 drive ratchet would hold up to it either with a three foot long pipe on it.

I think Tekton is fine for the DIYer, but speaking from heavy use as a professional, it’s not ok for pros. Especially not for the sockets that will see substantial, regular use. I’m an aircraft mechanic, so my sockets are mostly 12pt SAE with a set of 6 point for specific uses. The Tekton sockets that I purchased to fill in some gaps had already started rounding internally by the 6 month mark. It’s the worst on the smaller sizes that see regular use, like 5/16-1/2” in 1/4 drive, but some of the larger sockets also show signs of significant wear. By comparison, my 20 year old Proto sockets and my fairly new Snap On sockets show literally zero appreciable wear. I believe the Tekton sockets are made with too soft of an alloy. I also have gripes about their 1/4” and 3/8” ratchets. My primary ratchets are the regular T72 and F80, but I purchased the Tekton 90T ratchets because they offer a little extra leverage and supposedly less arc swing. However, the backlash is significantly greater than the Snap On and the backdrag is also much heavier, which effectively makes the lower tooth count SOs work in much tighter spaces. And the worst part are the switches that change direction on a whim.
@irongoose3865
@irongoose3865 Жыл бұрын
@@phtevenmolz5030 I like your input on The Tekton tools and you certainly sound like you know what you are talking about. I used Craftsman and Snap On professionally for years and never experienced those problems with sockets. I really felt The Tekton stuff was a equal to The Craftsman sockets though. My friend really likes the set and has been using them for a couple of years now and hasn't broken anything yet. He'll probably break the breaker bar eventually though, it's a total piece of junk.

I paid almost the same money for the Carlyle set. It's a six-point, metric set. But, it's only has the shallow sockets. A great ratchet with only the 36-tooth mechanism though; even for using it, a six inch extension, and a 16mm socket to rotate the engine on a Suburban. The set ain't used everyday. The Tekton set is definitely a great value. I have looked at the Quinn 1/2" drive deep socket sets I may look into the Tekton version instead when I need them in the future.

Thank for that very detailed side by side review of the older vs upgraded version of the 1/2 set. Any change on your personal opinion about the build quality between the two, in regards to the sockets? I've noticed in the newer set all the socket are more slimmed down, and not as robust, at least by the naked eye. Am looking to pick up a 3/8 set in the older configuration, before they run out completelly. Just looking for your 0.02 please. Regards!

Based on reviews the newer set seems to be better especially the ratchets. I personally havent had any problems but I use my tools correctly. If you have any doubt buy on Amazon before a project and if they dont meet or exceed your standards then return them. The tools are backed for life so you shouldn't have any problems.

I think I agree with you about the older sockets being better. I am gradually buying the 90 tooth ratchets to replace the ones in the old kits. I bought the 1/4” , 3/8” and 1/2” sets weeks before the new ones were released. I was extremely disappointed I didn’t have the updated sets. I was gonna purchase 3 new sets but Tekton wouldn’t even offer me a discount off the newer sets. I guess they don’t have to but it was definitely a sour experience. If I had known I would have held out for the newer sets. And these old style ratchets are junk. I am sure they will hold up pretty good but they just feel cheap.

Since everything is metric today, including inch sizes is almost worthless unless you need to train a Dodgeball team. Should sell a ratchet group with accessories, i.e. extensions, universals adapters; then select either Metric socket sets or standard socket sets. I experienced the opposite, bought my Craftsman tool set in 1978 was ALL standard. Then over the years had to buy Metric. Since the majority of work on modern cars you only use smaller sizes, unless changing out FWD axle shafts, and your set probably doesn't go that big anyway. Most tools will NEVER be used, their there "just in case" you might need them.

I think I have most 1/2 inch drive sockets now the largest SAE socket I have is 1-1/2 and the largest metric socket I have is 36mm I have different brands in 1/2 inch drive DeWalt Tekton Craftsman and Jobsmart from Tractor Supply I have a mix between 6 point and 12 point in my opinion it’s good to have both 6 point and 12 point instead of just all 6 point or just all 12 point.

This would be even better if it had the 5/16 like some other 1/2" Drives, but it does make up for it on the other end with the 1 5/16" as most only go up to the 1 1/4"... Also wouldnt mind paying $220~$250 if it came with the 8mm, 9mm, 33mm,34mm,35mm, 36mm, 37mm, 38mm, ajd even a 39mm like OEM Tools has in some of Their kits but a 39mm isn't necessarily a deal breaker

Definitely can’t fit folded out as it would be 44”x30” when it’s opened up. It does fit and close and you could swing it up and have the back rest on those spring locking mechanism by the hinges. and it does fit between the cut outs for pry bars and screwdrivers. I haven’t taken everything out of the top but it does look to like clear the front lock mechanism so you could close the 5 drawer cart if the case is closed
