The first of three bouts recorded at the Sports Centre, Worksop, Nottinghamshire on 23rd October 1974 which were then broadcast on ITV's World of Sport on 2nd November 1974.

Back in the 60s, I remember my grandmother's sister Rose who was a tall thin woman in her 70s and looked like a victorian school teacher, she rarely took her hat off and took life very seriously but on a Wednesday her and a elderly friend would be in the front row at Granby Halls in Leicester watching the wrestling and shouting with the best of them

@Alan-ss3xp Yes if Rose was at my grandmother's on Saturday afternoon (I was as we didn't have a TV at the time) she would be glued to the TV, my grandmother was always wondering how they didn't hurt each other when they got thrown around the ring, I never could convince her it was pure theatre

Hi in late 80s_earley 90s I meet all them wrestling in the pavilion in Hemel Hempstead on sat afternoons and was on tv myself when I was a steward and had lots of chats with them in the dressing rooms giant haystack he always stunk like sick thay worked for dale Martin's in south london brixton regards rich from corby Northamptonshire 😂😂😂

British wrestling may not have had American razamatazz but it had kickass characters, taking it off TV was a major mistake 🤦

It is generally agreed that TV wrestling in the sixties was fixed: nor rehearsed move by move, but certainly with the winner pre-determined. Yes, looking at this bout, one wonders. Kellet was in his fifties then, and clearly not at his peak. The younger Barnes was certainly giving him a run for his money, particularly as Kellet's back was giving him trouble. If this was a fix, why didn't Kellet win outright? Instead of by the dubious means of tossing barnes over the ropes at the end?

Kellet was vocal and ALL man when takin punishment: luv seein both men stick gut at 7:55...Barnes pinned that arm back and kept Les' barkin like dog with those fists into his smooth belly...
