we're playing this for our concert. funny i really can't imagine this as a marching show. this is concert music.

I know but we did not have any instructor to teach oboe or bassoon. This was the last year (2004) Jasper had bassoon. He transferred to Jasper knowing how to play. Last time Jasper had an oboe was in 2000.

At that point, 1. That was my brother and he played trombone but was a senior. Jasper would have a few more after this but i think only 4 in the next 5 years. Only 1 of them would come from this wind ensemble.

I would just like to say, props on the percussion guy in the back who got an entire work out from playing this song.

My high school is playing this...that's really impressive, I think my entire class is trying to talk my teacher out of us playing it, we're convinced she wants us to fail, our concert is the 1st week of may, we JUST got the music last friday, and this week we have spring break and were not allowed to take our instruments or music home.

I love this tune, and it's composer. I've met Charles Young, and he's a wonderful guy. Our HS Wind Ensemble actually just got hired to proof his latest peice. It's not published yet, but it's a BLAST! The song is making it's world premier in Febuary.

This is much better than the 1983 UIL contest performance @rocketfan86. Nicely done here.

yea that's true but for some strange reason I hear alto saxes when I saw that they didn't have that part

You know its bad when you're listening to Bent Aluminum rather than Tempered Steel, not the case here.

@devonta281 nah I think it was the trumpet/cornet...btw...it's a horn...not euphonium.-that is...if we're talking the same part :P
@Tenortitan16 жыл бұрын
Yea the sax parts are cool but they're also crazy hard, but I really gotta agree, they are awesome

Your French horns Kick Ass. I think I'm in love with the first chair girl. Damn good job. :)

i think the alto saxes had to double some parts considering the band had only one double reed (bassoon). Even the oboe solo was a soprano sax. There was limited instrumentation.

That was amazing! If I could rate more stars I would give it to you but I can't. 5++!

WHERE'S THE BASS CLARINET SOLO AT?!
@idoitforchina15 жыл бұрын
not bad at all for a high school group! :]
@Tenortitan16 жыл бұрын
But bassoons are in concert key so then you have to go through all the trouble putting the bassoons in not only treble clef but also in Eb key

Any ensemble that can play this song as good as the recording that I've heard is an ensemble to compete with Also any ensemble that can play a David Gillingham piece is good cuz his pieces are weird & hard
@Asianpridedken16 жыл бұрын
bahaha a little of both were really good though XD
@Asianpridedken16 жыл бұрын
actually most of the sax parts arent just sax parts. Its just thts all u hear cause saxes are so loud XD i no this cause ive seen the score
@Asianpridedken16 жыл бұрын
Bass clarinet and im preety sure this is a level 5,a 6 six like it would be a little harder than this
@Tenortitan16 жыл бұрын
That's pretty impressive, this is a grade VI piece & it's challenging for me & I'm in high school, what instrument do you play?
@castlesuzie13 жыл бұрын
@geoxsep My band is lucky, we have two oboes :D Me and another one...i'm playing the 2nd part, it's SO intense

Slapstick man at 4:56 is my hero. I play that part in addition to some other perc stuff, and I wish that I had as much energy as he does. although i gotta say that the bobbing up and down, whack-a-mole approach is a bit distracting. and by a bit, i mean extremely. consider using trap tables for perc? all in all, you guys did a great job with this. lost some tempo in the brass solo section but otherwise awesome.
@Vettechshannon16 жыл бұрын
what school are you? cause we are also doing this song shorter with marching band. =]

Bari saxes don't read in bass clef A long time ago Tenor saxes & below read bass clef but now they read in treble like the altos so unless they could comfortably play in bass clef in concert while they're in Eb then that's okay but I really doubt that they would really be reading in bass clef.
@Asianpridedken16 жыл бұрын
well of course bari saxes read treble but its not hard to translate the part from bass to treble
@Asianpridedken16 жыл бұрын
well if the saxes doubled up with the bassoons then they would be reading bass clef probably the bari saxes but if they did then they need to stfu and let the rest of the parts be heard to (not to a dh) :p

Euphonium solo: Wrong notes!!! Other than that it was great!
