It’s John for me, too. So many melodies, that came so easy to him, seemed positively inspired. And this was the main magic of The Beatles, to me. Of course he wrote a lot of those songs with Paul, but still, John always seemed the most special one…at least, until he was no longer able to do so because of the drugs.

Agreed. For a few years I couldn’t really figure out who my favorite Beatle was. Sometimes I thought Paul or Ringo. I never really settled on John since he had a lot of controversies. Eventually, I settled on George being my favorite. All of them are great in their own ways but I feel like I can relate to George the most. He was the quiet, calm, and chill Beatle. I was born the day before he passed away as well, which is still crazy to think about. Maybe his energy lives through me in a way. It’s strange.

Who is your favorite Beatle. This is very hard question for me. I like them all. But John is my favorite. Just for a little bit. Because of his songs like Imagine or Oh my love. And his humor.

Im a guitar player as well and i relate to johns guitar playing most though hes a close second to george, they said he was the least technical beatle in terms of his guitar playing, yet he could come up with almost the perfect solo on the spot. Not that the others cant, i love you cant do that, and my favourite singer in the group is john, but i like george more cause of his calmness... And teaching that tall guy how to shave in a hard days night. As you can tell the beatles are my favourite band

There's a few instances where John talked about his struggles with being attracted to men, (Yoko has also confirmed it too) especially during such homophobic times as the 50s, 60s and 70s. John really struggled with toxic masculinity, and IMO I think he was actually in love with Paul; John was obsessed with the notion of one person fulfilling all of his needs, creatively, emotionally, sexually, that was able to devote themselves entirely to him, and he found that in Yoko (as toxic as it was) but was haunted by his connection with Paul; Yoko said it was "like John was cheating on me with Paul", suspected there was deeper feelings there, people called Paul "John's Princess" at Apple in Yoko's hearing. And that's just off the top of my head. So I think when Yoko came along, John wasn't able to separate Paul and Yoko, because he needed to be fulfilled in all ways by one person, so effectively divorced Paul and went on to devote himself to Yoko, who fulfilled all of needs and became "Mother" (I mean, the man was pretty screwed up mentally and emotionally)

In another interview m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZennrWHutKnqoE.html George talks about what it was like hearing about Lennon the night he died and he doesn’t really express much. He also mentions how some of the tension the two of them had was over a disconnect from George’s biography where he doesn’t credit John for something that caused a rift between the two, I think it was for not crediting him with a line on a Harrisong or overall influence. It seemed like there was something more petty and annoying going on that didn’t have any real weight behind it if that makes things a bit less severe. They weren’t on speaking terms past the mid-late 70s I believe, but at no point do I recall it being particularly bitter. It still must have eaten him up inside though, either way.

And this started the lost year with Mae Pang as a watchdog and a vent for his needs. But he recovered by himself, became successful again and began to gather more confidence on his own. Yoko let him in again (pun intended) just before he could become too independent eventually.

I can't blame her. She was a jealous person. And she obviously wanted attention from her husband. Although she was in the wrong there. However I feel like it would be a good time to forgive her anyway because it's nice and I'm sure anyone in the Beatles would have wanted that.

He’s such a model for grace and positivity. In interviews, he seems to always consider his influence and whether or not he’s spreading a positive and good message.

That’s why I love him :3 He’s so sweet, pure, and down to earth. He genuinely cares about his fans, and he’s friendly. He loves to socialize with people and he’s so calm and relaxed that way. I mean, sure he bad John kind of fought, but when John was murdered, Paul was crushed... The same thing with George... He genuinely cared for his friends... Edit: I just saw the part about “How Do You Sleep” and that’s sad. John actually hurt Paul... Like genuine pain... Another great thing about Paul is that, yes. He is extremely forgiving. I mean when John was dissing him, he still protected him. It was like Paul didn’t think John did anything wrong, even though he did. He didn’t care. He genuinely cared about John and he didn’t give a fuck about being dissed by him. He was still his friend... Edit 2: I just watched a documentary the other day called “Lennon’s Last Weekend” and there was a part about “How Do You Sleep” and one of the people talked about why John wrote that song, and then there was like a sound bite of John saying that he used the fact that he just despised Paul and put it into a song, and then one of the people who were talking about John said something about their relationship and used the phrase “His Paul” and that just melted my heart, but when they used the word “despised” for the way John felt about Paul it was very heart wrenching for me since I always saw them (and continue to see them) as best friends. I kind of kept softly repeating the phrase “His Paul” to myself because of how cute that was. It was just the cutest thing I ever heard. That phrase let me know that they were not only best friends, but companions, and they loved each other for who they are. That’s true friendship, and I couldn’t have put it any other way. Fun Fact: In August of 2020, Mark Chapman, the person who shot and killed John Lennon, was denied bail for the 11th time. Fun Fact: Paul and John had actually made up and repaired their friendship shortly before John was murdered. (As many of you probably know) Fun Fact: Some people may think that Paul didn’t care much about the fact that John had been killed based off of his reaction when he was interviewed the day he found out. He had gotten a phone call that morning saying that John was dead. He was in a state of severe shock at the time, and the poor lad still couldn’t comprehend this terrible event yet. Plus, he was probably numbed by the news and the pain that came with John’s death. It hadn’t yet registered in his brain that his best friend in the whole world, that his companion, his song writing partner, was no longer with them, that he was gone and would *never* come back, *ever* again. He most likely didn’t even *want* to believe it, and there’s a very high chance that if he hadn’t said “It’s a drag, isn’t it?”, that he would’ve began to cry/break down in tears. He was trying extremely hard to keep it together, and he could have failed had he not said that phrase. So for those people who say “Paul didn’t give a fuck about John being dead!”: Think again, and you’ll see Paul’s true feelings. Fun Fact: George was stunned by the news of John’s murder, and had a similar reaction as Paul. Ringo was also stunned. All 3 were initially in a state of shock, and were numbed by it. Fun Fact: John had said himself that he felt extremely safe in New York City, exactly 48 hours before he was killed. Fun Fact: Paul nearly broke down in tears when he heard the song “Beautiful Boy” which was written by John, and he most likely can’t listen to that song without getting sad/starting to cry. Paul also dreams of John often.

Yep - poor John - he suffered a malcontent personality disorder - and I don't think drugs helped the situation - and had he lived I think he would have asked the band back together. Malcontent personalities grow out of it as age, wisdom, and experiences develop the self-actualized person. As well many creative people suffer malcontent issues - and sometimes for the better of their craft - but not so much for their relationships.

I feel like while Yoko may have made John happy, she brought out and even encouraged the worst in him. The personal jabs and pokes at Paul were pure Yoko. She was like a 2nd wife. So absolutely jealous and insecure about and around t he e 1st wife she has to drive a viscous wedge of unnecessary meanness between the husband and the 1st wife and even the children (George, Ringo and even us, the fans).

@@dona62851 That could well be correct - however, John did have a malcontent personality disorder - Yoko most likely fed the beast inside - the pitty is - many creative types do have malcontent issues - and as they age with wisdom, experience, and achievement - the malcontent issues go away and they are open to rebond with old friendships - that is those who will let them back into their lives. I think Paul would have worked with him again - but we will never know now because of a real nut job - Chapman. The fact is Paul had so much solo commercial success - it would most likely have been a brief reunion for a charity cause. Just look at the top-grossing Beatles songs - and Paul dominated there as well - Paul wanted the Beatles in his life - but Paul did not need the Beatles anymore. John started the worlds best band - and john ended the band - and perhaps Yoko was the cog in the wheel - but John could have easily told her - this is my job - it has grown into a major industry - there are a lot of people riding on and depending on this for their living - Oh No Yoko - I'm holding this part of my life together. @Sam Murphy I agree with you on Mick Jagger - he is not as big a talent as he thinks he is - but he is the frontman to the second-greatest band of all time (reference Billboard Magazines top 100 bands of all time) and Mick is a bit arrogant to the fans (personal observations) - John Lennon has been reported as abusive to Cynthia Lenon - but Cynthia Lennon has only varified his unfaithfulness toward her - there at the end of their marriage - but she denies physical abuse. I am no expert - but have been a student of Educational Psychology - as an amateur psychologist - I would diagnose John Lennon as being a Malcontent Personality - but not a danger to others - it is reported that in his youth - he did get in a number of fights (as do many young kids) - and may have lead to the death of an early drummer in his band (who died from a stroke a few days after the fight) - but these things happen when intoxicated - the other individual was equally engaged in the fight (did not try to stop or run from the fight - as was reported) - so by law - Lennon would have been free from any legal action being taken. Young people can and do often make tragic mistakes - and John Lennon is no exception to that rule. I agree that Elton John and Billy Joel are major talents - however, the charts (under the percent of populations at the appointed times) do indicate that the Beatles take top honors in many categories. And two albums from the Beatles that more or less revolutionized the recording industry - would be the Revolver Album and Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I can not think of any groundbreaking work from Elton John or Billy Joel that could surpass the Beatles. Though I enjoy Elton John and Billy Joel - as tremendous talents - I also hear a lot of Beatles influence in their music - and they as well - indicate tremendous Beatles influence in their own admission regarding their own work. Billy Joel has even coined a few songs as being McCartney influenced. And many professional and successful songwriters have interviewed as proclaiming McCartney as a genus and commanding force in the creation of a wide and diverse range of Melody mastery - and I personally agree. When I purchased RAM and listened to it for the first time - I predicted then that McCartney would surpass the other Beatles in commercial success - and it turns out - I was correct. I love that guy - and he continues to be the workaholic of the Rock Era. His influence is going to be around for a very long time. And the critics were dogging him in the early days of their solo careers. Okay - Sam - enjoy the music dude - wonder if you play or record your own? Take care - stay safe.

Randy Cantera I don’t see it as taking shots in the first place. Paul was just expressing his emotions through his music, as would any musician. I mean if you were Paul & your band mates left you, wouldn’t you express yourself through the only way you know how, writing songs. Many other artists did the same. John just took it a step further with How Do You Sleep & it obviously hurt him so he stopped, that’s a bigger man if you ask me.

Yep! It is unfortunately quite common for Paul's own biography to be written out of his own songs because people think they're about John (and don't even get me started in how reluctant people are to attribute John songs to Paul). I always took Dear Boy as Paul kind of taunting Linda's ex, like "look at this AMAZING woman you left behind! Well, your loss, buddy! Because I actually cherish her and treat her right!" Paul said in an interview at one point that he and Linda had open conversations about their romantic pasts, so she had to have confided in him about how her ex husband made her feel.

Nevertheless the interesting thing about it is, that John apparently thought that "Dear Boy" was about him....

I don’t know about this, because George was furious about Paul as well. He wanted to play the song, and for me he was comfortable.

Not really. It’s a song John had been sitting on that was somewhat autobiographical, but knew if he released it everyone would just laugh at him and say “there he goes again”, but he knew that Ringo had the charm that he could pull it off no problem. While he did write it after he read Paul’s letter to announce he was leaving the band, it was more influenced by Mohammad Ali and after he caught A Hard Days Night on tv one night. There is not really anything anti-Paul in it
