Side by side comparison of Tenba Fulton v2 14L and 16L backpack.
I have owned large backpacks.
I have owned small backpacks.
But, like Goldilocks in search of porridge that was not too hot nor too cold, but "just right," the Tenba Fulton 14L and 16L backpacks are just the ticket.
In this video I start by showing both cameras "side-by-side."
1. Then I look at how much stuff I can fit in the 14L.
2. Next, I put the same photo gear into the 16L to see how much fits.
3. You will see with your own eyes which bag will fit your camera gear.
My "take home message" is that if you have 1 camera body and 3 lenses, the Tenba Fulton v2 14L will be large enough and provides a perfect "small form factor.
If you have more than 1 camera body and/or more than 3 lenses, the 16L will most likely be a better backpack for your gear.
I hope you like this video.
Please let me know what you think. I value any and all comments, so please share your observations.
If you have a "wish list" of anything you'd like to see in a future video, please let me know. I made this video because a couple of viewers asked for it.

Very helpful video, thank you! I have been using a Tenba messenger bag for many years, so I knew about the great quality of their products. But as I live on a tiny island, much of my shopping has to be done online; I can't just go to a store and have a proper look around before buying gear, so your video really helped me decide between the 14L and the 16L. I will go for the bigger one!

Hi Volker Films, I’m so happy to hear my video helped you decide. I love both, but boy I’ve been using the 16L (bigger one) all the time. The other one just holds my backup cameras now. What is the name of your tiny island? Is it in the US or somewhere else? Very cool life and I’ll visit your channel next to learn more about your films. Thanks for watching my video, and especially for leaving a comment. I always love to hear about my viewers!

Wow that 14L fills up fast. Bubbles!!! I didn't buy a backpack style camera bag for a long time because of stuff potentially falling out - if the only opening is on top (like a regular bag) you can't do that unless your really biff it. Dual zippers on these bags lets me zip both up to the middle, so it lessens the chance of something sneaking out from the corner if the zipper moves. Good but minimal padding allows the equipment to acclimate to the environment (humidity) faster. But the best part is my hands are free to open doors or carry other stuff. Wish I would have bought one of these sooner. Superb review! I wondered if I made a mistake buying the 16L instead of the 14L - thanks to your review I know I bought the right one! Thanks! I'd like more of your take on those remote triggers. Those lenses too.
@animaldonut
@animaldonut Жыл бұрын
I can say you made no mistake at all getting the 16L instead of the 14L. I just took a long trip and brought the 16L and it’s a fantastic bag. I packed so much stuff - my camera, lenses, microphone, sweatshirt, laptop, chargers, cables, and tons of other stuff. There’s still more room, and I brought it on the plane as one of my 2 items. Fit under the seat in front of me during takeoff. The 14L would be great for a camera bag if you’re on a journey doing a lot of walking around. I love that bag, but the 16L is a wise investment, it is good for a longer trip where you wanna bring a bunch of stuff. You 💯 made a great choice! 🏆 I’m remembering you’d like more info on the triggers and lenses. Also, I bought a new Sony lens - it’s actually my first one, and it’s been really useful this past week. So, I will think of a good way to discuss this in a future video. It’s always good to know you’re out there! What have you been up to these days?

@@animaldonut Super busy, like you man. Hope to hear about the new lens. I was curious to hear your thoughts on choosing a lens and your opinion on how useful those triggers really are. Just newb stuff, really. I ended up buying a used lens and have been impressed with it. Funnily enough, buying this much better lens taught me how to get the most out of my kit lens. I think not knowing how to use a lens is a common issue with people, and they spend big bucks on glass when a little education would have sufficed. I didn't understand how to use a lens properly for bokeh, compression, etc. - I was so focused on framing and composition I hadn't learned the basics of using the tools. I learned a ton and there's a lot to say about this. I think a video along these lines could be popular.

Thanks for the good info, Jeff. Recently, while filming a valley, I fell into the water and was injured for three weeks, but the camera and equipment in the Tenba bag were fine. I have deepened my trust in tenba through this opportunity. If there is only one disappointment, I found out that climbing with a tripod higher than a certain height on the side of the bag is very dangerous because the tripod gets caught on a tree branch while hiking. I'm trying to figure this out until the next shoot. I was looking for another bag to replace my Tenba solstice 20L bag for light trekking. Your video helped me a lot in deciding on the fulton v2 14l.

If you’d like to see it just search my channel for a video called “Sony A7iv Backpack | Tenba 14L | Outside.” Of course this bag is good for any camera, I just happen to have a Sony (and a Canon) right now. I really appreciate a good bag for equipment (and comfortable shoes) as I gain experience with photography and life: I had an important photo shoot with about 10 people to make portraits of in downtown Seattle today. Because it was only me (no assistant) I had to keep the gear simple and make it possible to have it on me and accessible in a moment. This so the first time I’ve used the 14L “In the Wild” on a job and it was perfect. I never removed the pack once we got going because it was light and not a burden, and because all I needed was 1 camera, 1 lens, and 1 reflector. @@animaldonut How have you been? Jeff, thank you very much for not forgetting to mention me. It's been a long time since I've seen you, so I have a lot to talk about. :) I ended up buying the fulton v2 16L because I needed a little more space than the 14L and prefer a waist belt for weight distribution. Your video was very helpful to me in making this decision. Thank you again, Jeff. Um! While using the bag, there were minor inconveniences such as no rain cover or buckle to tie the tripod, but it is a reliable companion for light shooting. A few days ago, I finished filming the fall season and returned home. Unlike when I was young, as I got older, I became interested in trees. Especially in this shoot, the trees dyed in autumn colors were so beautiful. Trees and trails between them. trees and roads. I put a lot of thought into expressing how humans and trees live in harmony in modern society. As soon as the editing of the photos taken this time is completed, I plan to continue contributing to Getty and American Fine Art. And next year, I plan to resume my social media activities, which I had been putting off due to busy filming. Including vero and instagram, which are getting attention these days. Winter is coming here now. Autumn is short, so I feel very sad. But I'll wait for spring. :) Thank you again Jeff and I hope your fall will shine more than ever. Best regards, Brandon HM. Oh

I've had the Tenba DNA backpack which is about the same size as the 16, it just has a different layout with a laptop compartment closer to the back and the camera stuff on the outer side, its also made of a waterproof material and the camera stuff is removable in case you want to keep the camera stuff at home and use it as a normal packpack. Off the top of my head, the shoulder straps are both equally comfortable. The 16L has a wider sternum strap - so if you have broad shoulders and you use that strap you may prefer the 16L. I have both bags and like them a lot. When I travel I prefer the 16L because I can fit more clothes and a slightly bigger laptop, cables, chargers - it’s a great backpack. I have 3 questions regarding the bag (I’m currently on the market to buy a bag): Leaning towards 16L 1)What is the breathability like on your back when carrying in hot environments? 2) How comfortable are the straps when carrying all-day or for a prolonged time? 3) Are there any security features or are you able to put a lock on the zippers on the front pouch? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! Happy to help: 1) I have had no problems on hot days with this bag. Check out the video I did called “In the Wild.” I don’t remember if it was with the 16L or 14 L, but they are both similarly fine to carry on hot days. 2) I’ve had the 16L for a few years now. I’ve always enjoyed wearing it. It’s really never a hassle to wear it. Although when I have it stuffed with camera gear, it does get heavy. So I guess I’d have to say it’s a more comfortable bag when it’s not stuffed full of camera gear, laptop, charger, etc. Heavy is not so fun 😅 3) There are not any security features that I’m aware of. I’ve never used a lock with this bag. The best feature is that the camera section must be accessed by the zipper which is against your back. So if you’re wearing this bag, that feature itself keeps your camera gear protected. When it’s not on your back, that’s a different story. This bag is pretty lightweight, and not meant to prevent people from getting into it who want to. Thanks so much for my video and for your questions. Let me know if I can answer any others. 👍🏻😊

Thanks Agustin! After I read your question I opened up the rolltop compartments in both of 14L and 16L. I would say the 14 L is not quite as deep - about 2 inches less depth. And perhaps a little less volume than the 16L. In real world terms, you could probably put an extra sweatshirt and sandwich in the 16L. So it’s not a huge difference, but a little more space. So that would be my best estimate. There might be more scientific ways of measuring the volume, but I’d say the 16L holds a little more stuff!

It’s a pleasure! So glad you like it. It took me a little while to get used to it. That part about not dropping the lens because the zip was not closed is the most important lesson, I’m glad you grasped it! It’s been a superb bag. I use the 16L and 14L every day. They continue to be rugged and dependable. I’ve used them for more than a year and they still look as good as new!

@@animaldonut As a safety addition to these kinda bags, I have an idea, that is, to have strong magnets around the zip line so it will always snap immediately and will be some sort of protection than zip being opened. Not a fool proof solution but I think it had potential. Hope companies picks this idea and develops on it! Once again Thank you 😊 🧡

I can't tell, but is the waist belt on the 16L removeable? And does the front pocket extend all the way down to the bottom?
@animaldonut
@animaldonut Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 Alex! The waist belt is fully removable - I didn’t know it but just checked my bag to answer your question. The nylon straps at both corners of the bag have a little plastic buckles and you can unthread them. The front pocket does extend all the way down to the bottom of the bag. The zippers don’t go all the way down, but they go most of the way down. But the pocket continues below where the zippers stop their travel. Hope this is useful. Thanks for checking out my video. Let me know if you have any other questions! 🏆 📷

Do you know if a peak design capture clip fits in the 14l’s straps?
@animaldonut

I don’t know if it will fit. I googled the clip and took a look. It will surely fit in the 14L but in the straps I do not know. Wish I had one so I could try it for you. Would the peak design capture clip be useful to a photographer / videographer using a Sony A7iv? If so, maybe I can buy one and try it out and give you a solid answer. Let me know!

Hey Kevin, I checked out the laptop space in the 14L to see if a 14” MacBook Pro might fit. I don’t have a laptop that size to try (mine is the 13” MBP) but it would be a snug fit. It might work, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the 13” is the largest laptop that would fit. Maybe you can call Tenba and asked them? My guess is they have customer service for specific questions like that. Another idea is if you live in the US, maybe you could buy it on Amazon and try it out to see if it fits. If it doesn’t, they let you return things free of charge, so that’s an option. Where I live, we can bring an item to a Whole Foods, Market, or a UPS store, and it’s pretty easy Peezy to return things to Amazon. I hope this works out for you, whatever you decide to do! Have a sensational rest of your week! Jeff

Strange question... I'm looking for a backpack that can specifically fit on a plane as a personal item (not carry on), and guidelines need it to be under 18" in height. The 14L easily fits this, but curious about the 16L. According to the specs online it's 20.1". Without much in the rolltop, can this be squished down to 18"?
@animaldonut
@animaldonut Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question, and I will be able to put my hands on that 16 L in a little while. I will squish it down and see if it makes it to 18 inches. I know that rolltop can account for a lot of the height to the bag, so if there’s not much in it, it might just work. By the way, I have used my 16 L as a personal item, not a carry-on, and there’s never been a problem. It does fit under the seat in front of me. Having said that, it’s a pretty big bag and it doesn’t leave much room for your feet.
@animaldonut
@animaldonut Жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, Yes, it looks like it can squish down to 17” and if you really roll the top down all the way and cinch it well it’s about 16”. This is not a super precise measurement, but the 16L is certainly less than 20.1” without the rolltop full of stuff. Hope this helps! Jeff

Hi Andy, yes, it’s definitely removable! I took mine off the 16L the other day and put it away because I don’t need and and didn’t want it hanging around. By the way, traveled across the USA and used it as my carry on bag with camera, laptop, lots of stuff in it and it’s such a great bag. I used it every day for my work too, it works just like new 1.5 years later.

@@animaldonut thanks! Super helpful to get feedback like this! I’m torn between the 14L and 16L versions. For camera gear I think the 14L should work for me, since my Canon M6ii kit and lenses are quite compact. I like the smaller size, but am not sure if there’s any extra room for a laptop that’s 13” x 9” x 1” to fit in that pouch on the 14L. That’s a little bigger than the dimensions Tenba lists. My laptop fitting is the key to this being an everyday carry bag for me. Do those pouches have a little leeway or stretch to them to allow something slightly bigger?
@animaldonut
@animaldonut Жыл бұрын
@@andyfeig5896 Tell me which laptop you have. Is it a 13” MacBook Pro? I have the 14L nearby so I can try it out with my 13” MacBook or I can put a ruler to it for you and see if those dimensions you provided will work. I’d hate for you to get the 14L and it not fit your laptop. Another option is you could always order it on Amazon and they give you a month to return it and free return shipping if the size doesn’t work. You’d probably have to live in the US though. Let me know how I can help!

@@andyfeig5896 On second glance, it looks like it’s a different laptop than 13” MBP because it’s 1” thick and that’s a lot thicker than the thin MacBooks and MacBook Air. I don’t have a laptop that thick to test it out, but I can put a ruler in the laptop pouch and see if 1” will work.

The depth of this bag is 13cm, but the a7IV is 9.7cm. Are you propping it up with something underneath?
@animaldonut
@animaldonut Жыл бұрын
I just set it in the bag “as is” and it’s fine. It doesn’t bounce around. I do use some of the many extra blue dividers at the end of the lens (next to the lens cap) to fill the space there. Not that the lens will slide down, but I like to keep the dividers in the bag and they fill that space well. I hope this is useful. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

@@Poopdeck1015 If you are talking about the 16L it may be possible. I’m not sure of the sizes of the lenses you mention. I think the 14L will be too small - if I remember correctly the 14L is large enough for 1 camera with a lens attached and 2 other lenses. It sounds like have more lenses, so the 16L would likely fit better. I made another video about that 16 L Tenba bag, I’ll provide a link to it below.

I just realized the other video is an “unboxing” but does not address how much stuff exactly fits in camera compartment. One idea is that Amazon permits returns within a month or so.

I’m glad that at least this one was better. I made this new video because someone else said they wished I’d put the things down on a table. So, I placed them on a table and showed how everything fit in the bag. But, as you pointed out, I probably could have framed it better and focused more on the bag and less on myself. It’s good criticism and I will try to use it in a positive way to make a better future video about this bag. The 16L is a fantastic camera backpack. I appreciate you taking the time to explain the problems with the video. Not everybody would take that time they would just click away and I’d never know. :)
