I see you mixed up Vittoria Mutilata and what Italy gained in WWI. Vittoria Mutilata alludes to the territories that were promised to Italy in the Memorandum of London, before the war. The map you showed represents those territories. Italy turned out to get less than that (although still pretty satisfying if you ask me) and thus the Vittoria Mutilata, for the gap between promised land and annexed lands.

The war reparations concluded 2,25 billion franks as well as thousands of cattle and 50 thousand tons of coal. As the guy of the original comment said: we lost land and thousands of bulgarians were left out of their motherland. Also more than 100 000 refugees came to Bulgaria. Around 1:15 mark you can see there is a very small difference in the Turkish - Balkan border, the permanent one having lost a bit of land. That part is Dimetoka (today in Greece) given to Bulgaria in 1915 by the Young Turk Ottoman gov’t during the war in order to encourage the Bulgarians to join the war on Central Powers side. The railway to the Aegean passed there and was crucial for reinforcements. After the war had ended, that part of Turkish Thrace got back from Bulgaria and granted to Greece. That was the last Turkish loss of territory in Europe, taking place even after the Balkan Wars of 1912/13. You can see the change around 6:47 mark outlined by the thin black lined Republic of Turkey border vs. thick red lined Ottoman 1914 border. Great video btw.

Ótimo trabalho, like always, General. I have some constructive criticism to offer, if I may? When you speak of/mention any geographical entity like a city, a nation, a state or any territory, could you perhaps visually highlight said region on the displayed map more prominently? I am referring to the segments where the relevant map remains static during narration, with some minor changes being added to that map, after certain intervals. I think efficient highlighting of the subject in a map; allows the viewer to better visually contextualize a location within their own knowledge and understanding of geography. For eg. At 2:43, I completely missed that you added Eupen-Malmedy because I was still focused on Silesia. Could be that the font used here was quite small, relative to available screen space. There are many other examples I can state but the one that illustrates the issue best, for me, was the "How Do Countries' Sea Borders Work?" video. There is a segment about midway through when you speak about Oceania and the map on screen is of the entire South West Pacific. I had very little prior geographical knowledge of this region. With the map remaining static I could not follow the narration as I had no idea where the regions being mentioned were located. This isn't really a complaint. I mean, I had to open a new tab and familiarize myself with the pacific island nations and it was enjoyable. But that's not always possible or preferable. Some very basic use of a feature to visually emphasize the area on the map which was being referred, would have helped a lot. There are two simple solutions I can mention. Such as zooming in on the displayed map such that the place you are describing takes center-screen; is a good way to direct attention. As the video continues, moving the center slowly from one place to another, if the subjects are nearby. Or zooming out slowly, glimpsing the whole map before zooming back in to show the new subject; should there be a lot of distance between consecutive subjects. This would be a great way to maintain spacial continuity among viewers and help guide non-gepgraphynerds through unfamiliar regions. Another straightforward solution would be to use a basic color like you have done with Poland at 2:51, in this video. My only concern being that some viewers with color blindness may not be able to observe any changes. One last request. Last, I promise ! When drawing flags beside maps or placing flags inside a map for any purpose... could you, maybe, write the nation's name alongside its flag? I cannot immediately recognize most national flags. It creates a similar problem with following the narration as I cannot identify the countries being mentioned and thus lose focus fast. Done criticizing. Now let me say a little about what I do like about your videos :) Your (hand?) drawn art and use of plain symbols is a rather unique style. It amazes me how much artwork you put in a single video. Also admire your uncomplicated narration. I think it requires some talent/practice to speak a non native language with such lucidity. The accent was never a problem for me. Its a distinct voice that somehow calms me. You have pretty much mastered the aspects of writing and voice delivery in educational videos. If you can just improve the visual presentation like I have provided, I believe the channel will grow even further. I am sorry if my criticisms made it sound like I am a basement dweller quibbling about literal free education on the internet. I can only imagine just how much work and time goes into creating just one video. And I appreciate every hour you spend trying to provide strangers the same joy you must feel learning about maps and histories. If you never read humongous comment or don't care about the suggestions provided; that's completely fine. I do genuinely believe these alterations will make your content a lot more accessible to viewers. I hope this channel grows, regardless. Also, I like your profile icon. Reminds me of a penguin. God knows why.

Alsace-Lorraine was not a historical part of France. But of the HRE and had been for around 800 years until the French conquered most of it in the 17th century. 90+% of the population was ethnically German and had been for hundreds of years.

Linguistically*(not really ethnic) , at the time of the HRE unfortunately there wasn't a German people per say but more like multiple german people. The annexation by the German Empire in 1871 doesn't feel the same and angered the french mainly because at this period it has been almost a century since a real sense of nationalism took of in Europe. This territory being french at the rise of nationalist movements and having participated greatly in the French Revolution; the first French Republic; and the first French Empire played a major role in the perception people were having in seeing this regions as absolutely french and nothing else.

I'm reeeeealy curious about your @GeneralKnowledge sources... your videos have a strong English-speaking World (in this case Antant) perspective: - overstating the role of the British in some scenarios, - mentioning short-lived german political entities that did not have much of an impact and forgetting others, - mixing up Russian, German, and local political states and autonomies, - mentioning Finland as a side note rather than a part of the Russian revolution/collapse of the monarchy. *And a general rule of thumb: no country or territory becomes independent as a result of the collapse of a larger empire - instability just lays out the ground for that, the reason is always an independence movement.

I see that you have a Japanese name so if you are Japanese: the reason why Italy annexed Bolzano is the same as why Japan has annexed or claims territories such as the Kuril Islands. All these territories should or do belong politically to the country they geographically pertain to. Reasons are mainly strategical but if you think about it, this can also ensure the safeguard of local population since when geography matter and ethnicity doesn’t, their presence there ceases to be a threat to the nation they are in. When this is not the case ethnicity based massacres are committed like there are plenty of examples in history.

@@waelal-amri2161 yup.. the British and the French screwed everyone by making multiple deals and promises to the people living there, the Jewish people and to each other. Which led to the rise of the house of Saud. And even created more problems for the region. Many people say Germany got a better deal when compared to Austria-Hungary. But that title should be place on Turkey. When compared to the other two. Turkey maintained the majority or most of its military, industry and even influence. Without having to deal with political sides trying to crack it for their own gain. Like in Europe, or problems that crippled other nations down to their knees.
