Tesla Full Self-Driving Freaks Out On L.A. Freeway

Using Tesla Full Self Driving (Supervised) on our Tesla Model 3, we tried to do a quick drive down the 5 south from Valencia, Ca to Granada Hills without a disengagement, it fails spectacularly and would have crashed if I let FSD do it's thing.

You must be new It will signal when there Is a car but It will never turn Into one. The slow down and speed up stuff Is really weird on highways though

The signaling into a wall happened to me today too in Tampa. But that is the first real incident I have experienced since I bought my tesla 2 weeks ago

I stay on chill, and don't let it do the auto speed thing. Relaxing. I wouldn't have thought that navigation and mapping would have changed much between the 11 and 12 series releases, but I have had some disturbing map errors since the updates. Otherwise, it's great. When the car is moving, the prominent blue noodle is a perhaps easier to see indication that the car is in FSD. In V11, it was narrower.

The decision to speed up or slow down to make the lane change is determined by the speed limit which is 85MPH max for FSD Supervised but it also will not exceed the posted speed limit beyond the offset limit. The computer then has to make the decision based on the limitation. You have to bear these things in mind instead of judging the system by your standards.

The high way driving is still on the old V11 stack. While the City streets are on the new end to end neural network V12. I am not sure what caused the disengagement but I saw a 55 MPH sign right around that point.

@user-ll3ll2kn2x v11 stack, v12, AI, Neural. The Tesla owner doesn't care about any of that. Why did FSD freak out on the freeway? FSD has been in beta for almost *four* *years* . smh .

Normal drivers freak out at that turn too because it is not a continuous radius, it tightens and the road lines also veer from the painted lines. Also the car was signaling to get in the left lane which would be the normal move a driver would do there if you are going on the 405 and not the 210, why did you freak out and go to the right. You letting the car drive 10 under the speed of everyone else made it harder for it to merge or change lanes.

You can just press the volume button instead of tugging on the steering wheel.

Same with my 23 MYP. I called Tesla, and they advised me to be patient. I finally just bought the $99 subscription. However, it's an old version 11 (Beta). My 2024 arrived this week and thank goodness it had the latest free trial and version. My 2023 still no update.

I finally got the update tonight. Previously on 2024.8.9. Yah it sure launches at take offs lol had my setting on Average. I’ll tinker with settings tomorrow. Included is the new spring package with new UI looks great!

back in the day tesla had an issue where if you were driving down a highway and somehow crossed another street on the GPS, it would take the miles per hour of the street you are crossing over because it interprets you on the 35 mph street, even though you are on the highway. There is just a split second where this can occur, but because the 405 has tons of streets going under and over it, this bug still might be an issue. that's what i assume happened at the "freak out" portion, the gps probably just thought you were on a street with like 35mph speed limit or something

I wonder why "peripheral" is so problematic for people to pronounce. Typically the second "r" is elided, probably to join up with the second "n" people tend to put into "pundi(n)t.. Of no import; I just find it interesting.

If you have to monitor and be so worried about needing to take over, you ought as well drive at that point. We have only been driving and not complaining for 100,000’s of miles. Being so nervous you have to be more attentive to take over is mire in your nerves than just driving

The Stop sign behavior is a NTSB requirement. They require that Tesla have the system goes to zero (0mph) at every stop. The system then jumps from the heuristic code back to the neural net coding.

Why would anyone want to use FSD? It’s a very nerve racking drive. I’ve tried it at least 10 times and I have never completed a trip without having to intervene. You never know what the car is going to do. I see absolutely no use for FSD. Am I missing something?

A very easy drive in LA for a human, but FSD has problems: 2:11 Human intervenes, to creep forward. 3:38 FSD again stops *way* *back* 6:14 FSD slows down when doing lane change. Not good 17:10 Human *disengages* . FSD was braking with odd behavior 17:25 Total *disengagement* . Car does not know what its doing The narrator talked about: Tesla stops *way* *back* which interferes with sensors in the pavement that control the traffic light. Tesla engineers have not figured this out yet. .
