16:48 The batteries on left and right is at each terminal, to give higher charging power than the grid can supply. It says in Norwegian "charging onshore battery while ferry is underway". Interestingly this ferry is a catamaran design, with azipull propellers on each end of only one of the hulls. 19:57 This cable can only be for overnight charging, or charging in other harbours than the dedicated terminals, it would have to be even bigger to replace the robotic charging connection :)

Tap water is generally of high quality in Norway, so it is less common to buy bottled still water. That's why most bottled water is sparkling. As for the charging situation, you are probably visiting on a weekday outside of vacations. Most people are at work and are not on long distance roadtrips. Just wait until the Friday before a national holiday or something. It will probably be packed.

*In Germany, what you buy is mostly mineral water, comes in "sprudelnd" / "spritzig" (sparkling), "medium" (soft sparkling) and "still" (no sparkling).* However, if you don't want sparkling water, you can also use water from the tap. Unless there is a warning sign saying "Kein Trinkwasser" ("No drinking water"), it is of high, drinkable quality and very strictly controlled at the water works. However, it may taste and feel differently depending on the region. Let the water run for a minute or so before drinking, so you don't get stale water. From what I can see in the other comments, it seems to be similar in Norway.

Amazing video! Just to point something out. On the electric ferry, the "Norled" - arm thingy is not a charger. It's actually a mooring device. It moors the boat using vacuum. The charger is actually hidden in the tower behind, an could not be seen on the video. :)

The electric ferries are very new, so they've had some issues since introduced. Most ferry docks have those charges now, so the infrastructure is there at least. 90% of norways electric production comes from hydropower. It's around 1/6th of the worlds total hydopower. cant wait for part 3!

Rock skipping is still legal, so go right ahead. The most I ever got was 7 skips, but usually it is about 4. Glad you enjoy our country. We all have chargers at home, and we drive short distances normally, so no extra charging needed. Sparkling water has hard bottle. Still water has soft bottle. Easy to find, just squeeze the bottle.

@16:45 What you're looking at is a 260 kWh battery buffer on each land side due to low power available from the grid. They charge at over 1.4 MW while docked, but that is to much for the local grid, so they charge these up when the ferry is not docked to provide more power. With over 900kW that is around 75kWh in just 5 minutes while its docked. @42:27 There was a charger, but its a different one with like a grey tower with a cable hanging down from it. Can see it at 36:30 looking like a mirrored 7 on the left side of the dock. The brown building behind the van is the substation for the supply. They probably didn't complete the install on both sides and/or the ferries were not done. These days most of the main ferry crossings are all electric.

So nice to see you visiting my country. Happy to hear you enjoyed it! One of the ferries was probably gas powered, one was diesel and 2 were electric. The cabins in the end of the video are not for rent, but workers barracks and the socket outside them is to hook up power to to the barrack, not for charging a car. They are temporary structures, and when a building project is finished, they are driven away to other sites on a truck. You mentioned when by the lake and Alyssa was throwing rocks that "everything was illegal here". What was that about? Did you have a bad experience?

This is very interesting and entertaining to watch. I’ve never been further than Whistler, Vancouver, which is beautiful but watching your tour of Norway is really amazing both in seeing the similarities and great contrasts in their country. You just pointed out a diesel tank leak which illustrates how primitive the use of fossil fuels is. Seeing all the chargers and ev’s everywhere shows me how advanced Norway is in embracing the technology and modern clean living. It shows what can be done and hopefully what will be done in America although we appear to be lagging far behind. It’s really nice to see you and your girlfriend out there enjoying all of this together. I have my new Bolt. We both love it but we just drove our CRV hybrid to Beaufort about 300 miles away because of the anticipated range anxiety due to the lack of charger infrastructure. I’m hopeful that the situation improves over the next few years and we can start looking back on the fossil fuel age like we do the Stone Age.

We took a different route since we spent about 2 weeks in NO so we got to take all the little backroads, mountain passes and and fjord crossings. Drove 4000km and only spent about 220 EUR for charging in the whole trip. Man I love driving electric. Loved all the electric ferries. On the ferry between Norway and Denmark you can even charge your car on the ferry but unfortunately that ferry is not electric. Also really funny we stayed at the same hotel in Alesund :) When exactly did you do your trip. Would have been so funny to run into you at the bar.

It’s not that you’re obsessed with electric ferries, you’re just astounded with how fast the Norwegian electric rollout has been. They went from having relatively no electric infrastructure in - 2013 to going soup to nuts on everything. They have hundreds of chargers in parking garages, drive through charging stations that have access when it snows. And all the chargers work as well as petrol gas pumps. They have the aforementioned ferries as well as electric buses…. And in The US we have relatively nothing. But I guess you can get much more done with a population of 5.3 million than you can with 330 million people.
