This Nova went through a frame off restoration, it gives you the 60’s classic car look with its sleek design, great stance, with big block power that makes this a sleeping monster. After losing some compact car market share in previous years to Ford, in 1960 Chevrolet went to the drawing board. They had visions of quickly producing a compact car for the masses that would be both economical and desirable. By 1962, the first Chevy II Nova rolled off the production line.
The popular Chevrolet Nova was introduced as the Chevy II in 1961 as a 1962 model. It offered buyers a third choice in terms of size, standing between the (then) compact Corvair and the full-size Chevrolet. The plans for the Chevy II began in December of 1959 with the code name H-35. The Chevy II was designed as a relatively plain intermediate "economy" car powered by four- and six-cylinder engines, to steal sales away from the popular Ford Falcon. Production began in August of 1961 and as the Chevy II gradually became available with many engine, trim, and convenience options, it joined in the performance ranks of the mid-60's as a muscle car.
The trick to building an awesome street brawler is to keep it low-key. The burgundy paint has just the right '60s vibe that will still turn heads. The sheet metal is straight, and if you're looking to run hard, the 2-door sedan is the body style, with its lighter weight. No modifications to the body were permitted, not even a cowl-induction hood, and they resisted the urge to slap a set of SS badges on it or to even upgrade the grille. Instead, this looks like a clean, ready to cruise or possible ready to race Nova. It also features new lights and lenses, new grille, and headlight rims. The paint does have heavy clear coat, but the paint is in great condition, recently resprayed. Needs a wet sand and polish.
Inside, the black upholstery is in great condition. The bench seat is original equipment, and works well with the low-profile mission, although the Hurst shifter will undoubtedly get people talking. You know this one was built for cruising or for racing. It features an upgraded IEQUUS center gauge with an auxiliary IEQUUS gas gauge. Original door panels and new carpets, plus a tight-fitting headliner clearly demonstrate that this was not a cut-rate build. The trunk is also clean and carries a remote battery which helps with weight distribution and makes room under the hood.
The engine is a Chevy 7.4L (454 ci) V8 big block, but thanks to the Nova's light weight, it gives the car impressive performance. Mild enough to drive every day, it was clearly built for the street. Engine info is as follows: 454 plus .030 (461) with mild cam, 650 Holley aluminum intake, electronic distributor and plug wires, aluminum radiator with dual fans. Muncie 4-speed (new) 2:20 close ratio with a new Hurst comp shifter. New 4” drive shaft and U joints. CCP suspension - front sub frame (and connectors), disc brakes, shock tower delete, Arizona drive shaft and rack and pinion steering. We love the sound this Nova makes from the Thrush mufflers. It also features rear traction bars and a 10-bolt rear end and Helix coilovers in the rear. Custom additions are alt bracket, clutch linkage, carb linkage, engine mounts, and trans mounts. New brakes and wheel cylinders, new brake lines, new proportioning block for brakes and new wheels and tires. The Nova rolls on 195/60R15 on the front and 225/60R15 on the rear.
