We got our hands on the new MSD Atomic EFI conversion kit and test it out on a 1969 Nova with a GM 454ci big-block crate engine. We removed the Nova's old 850 cfm carb, which choked and gagged it's way to an underwhelming 285 hp and 296 ft/lbs of torque on the dyno. In a matter of hours, we had the MSD Atomic EFI kit installed and back on the dyno for more testing. The installation couldn't have been easier and the end result increased power to 315 hp and 322 ft/lbs at the rear tires with better drivability, a crisper throttle response, and improved idle.

I have an MSD setup on a '79 Bronco w/a 351M/400. I live in Alaska. When ever I go above 3000ft. my engine barely functions with a Holley carb. Also I was having to 'tune' it with the changing seasons. High '80s and humid in summer to -35f and dry as a popcorn fart in winter. I added the Atomic efi setup and now have the full MSD setup and it is flawless. I have gone thru mountain passes in excess of 5000ft. (not possible with the Holley) without so much as a sputter. I got the master kit from jeggs for approx. $1200. The solid year round performance, at any altitude, is SOO worth it for my application. I can literally go where I've never gone before.

I added this fuel injection and MSD ignition to my 87 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I now get pedal-less starting, even cold, crisp throttle and best of all, 18 mpg around town. After replacing the aged Torqueflite 727 with an overdrive transmission, I expect 20 mpg or so combined fuel economy. If you install this kit, expect to either install the fuel pump in the gas tank or do a return line system and have the Atomic control your timing. I didn't get true driveability improvements until I replaced the rotor with a two piece rotor and connected the distributor to the Atomic.

Nicely done video. U are right about the wiring. I have an accel gen 7 for my 540 big block. The main wiring harness is scary. To eliminate the wiring is a big step.

Does it work best w/ single or dual plane intake? Is elec. fan req.? I've never seen anybody turn an ignition key like that.

@ryancivil you mean like BS3? or Holley's new Dominator system? how 'bout MegaSquirt? or Accel DFI? there's even FAST...lots of stuff that has BEEN available for a while that will more than support 750hp. the new holley dominator is similiar to the msd atomic as it too is self learning

I'm guessing the unit needs a correct psi to work with the injectors,size of engine.The unit must be a stand alone unit,controlling the timing,injector pulse etc.But I hear you.

Maybe not necessary for the Atomic EFI but if ever need to determine required injector size and/or fuel-pump capacity for an EFI project (among other EFI stuff) look for "EFI Math" either in the App Store or Google Play!

maybe you should check them out. they're not for anything in general, they're just the injection management systems themselves. you'll have to provide the manifold. i would imagine that a super vic with injector bungs welded in would support your motor just fine. obviously this is just a suggestion, without knowing the entire combo, i can't make a great suggestion. a phone call to any of those companies would probably do you some good.

The throttle body I got was defective right out of the box.Don't attempt to install it yourself. Even the professional mechanic I got to do mine had to call the factory several times during the installation.

thats at the wheels... probably 415-425 at the flywheel. Not much cam in that motor.

Over $2,000 just for the basic kit? I'll pass. That would be the cost of over 4 rebuilt carbs!

rear wheel horsepower,you have driveline looses.but yes GM did build a few 454 pigs back in the late 70-80 that hardly made 300hp at the crank.You missed emissions in the early days.They just couldn't get it right with out plumbing the hell out of the motor and reducing the CR to nothing.

Do not run a returnless fuel line, And do not mount the fuel pump outside the tank, put it in the tank. All mine had to be changed. Also, install only 1 fuel filter. Do not attempt to install this yourself. Take it to a Performance Shop. I learned my lesson the hard way.

it barely pushed 300 lbs-ft at the wheel lol.... maybe its a low comp truck engine with a cam and headers?
