One of the original Grail Diaries, the headpiece of the Staff of Ra, and a holy grail prop are just three pieces from Prop Store's upcoming Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction collection. Adam gets to inspect all three and catches details he's never noticed before in his own research and replicas of these iconic props!

I like the back and forth with this guy, you can tell he isn't just there as a mouthpiece for the video, really enjoy that he feels comfortable to ask Adam questions to further his own knowledge of what he doesn't know! Just nice to see :)

Agreed. So many guest in the cave never let him finish what he’s saying. this guy is one of the best. He has a real love for the props. What props to have too! Raiders is one of those movies! Another one I’d like to see is National Treasure. That’s a trove of artefacts and little quirky pieces of history

What I love about these prop store videos is how much Brendan clearly respects Adam's expertise. He's always so eager to learn details he might not have known about a prop that Adam has picked up on. It's so wonderful to see.

I guess so because the head-piece and the grail look like poorly made reproductions. The jewel in the head-piece is the wrong color and the gold body has the wrong sheen. Knowing that props may or may not be exact duplicates for different scenes, but knowing what the grail looks like in Harrison Ford's hand, it still looks too large. 1in too tall in overall height and about a half inch too wide across the vessel.

@@MAGGOT_VOMIT that’s clearly not the grail that was used as a hero/hand prop. It was most likely built for a specific scene, like they literally said in the video.

For those trying to find the angels -- look at where the wing connects to the body , just below the bird’s neck. There is a small ball (angel’s head) and a gently curved piece that has a slightly different pattern than the rest of the feathers (angel’ wing). The angels are in a kneeling position, facing away from each other, angled about 45 degrees to perpendicular. There is one on each of the bird’s wings. ADDED NOTE - At 6:54 a finger (Adam’s?), moves back and forth over the medallion for several seconds. It is following the wing of the angel on the right side. It obviously wasn’t filmed during the discussion shown in the video since there isn’t a white cotton glove.

My favorite Tested videos are when Adam goes to The Prop Store. Adam's like a kid on Christmas morning looking at all his new toys! 100% certain that he's taking super high res photos of every one of these props for his own builds, LOL!

I know Adam has a LONG list of things he wants to make or remake, but he's mentioned doing another grail diary many times of the years. I would love to see that as a video series, especially with the new pages that have been found or shown more in the last few years. Hopefully he makes an updated version someday!

"Laid paper" has chain lines, they're faintly visible as a background on the page. It is rag paper, made from cloth scraps, not wood pulp. It was the only kind of paper that existed till the mid- late 19th century. It definitely holds up better to handling and age than "normal" paper made of wood pulp - as it would have for Henry Jones, Sr.

Agreed, it's laid paper, you can see it on some of the images in the video, also images of diaries from previous auctions that you can find on line. I'm using Conqueror laid A4 vellum for my one I'm working on.

I was working at Keir Lusby Props when Stephen Lane and the Indie collectors were visiting. Keir and his wife Louise and their crew had made some amazing things over the forty odd years they’d been around - truly one of the names in the U.K. prop making industry. It was a real one-stop-shop, with many skills in many disciplines all under one roof. One of their last big jobs was the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie, with the Aztec medallion and Jack’s compass being two of their contributions.Sadly the company closed around 2010 when the couple retired, and the crew went their separate ways. Keir turned 80 just the other day! Happy Birthday mate!

How awesome. I would love to be a prop maker. I build cosplay props and maybe one day I will get the privilege of making a prop for a movie. Amazing people creating fantastic items to entertain us. I just wonder how much of this will be replaced by CGI? A different craft altogether

@@stephannieschapiro1816 Keep on making and photograph everything. I started off in Architectural models years ago, then Product and Exhibition and finally Film and TV. CGI really spelt the end for Miniatures, (though not exclusively), but so far the only real change to Props is the advent of 3d printing. Especially for films.

IIN THIS FRAME are the artifacts from 3 of the most influential and important movies I watched growing up as a child. Batman, Raiders of the Lost Arc and Terminator 2. Three different hero’s. Three different characters with their own attributes and principles to help guide a 5 year old through the hardships of life! Incredible!!!!

I marvel that people have the awe and respect for movie props that people have for genuine ancient artifacts. It’s all such a game of silliness to me. It’s like reaching into your pocket with rubber gloves to respectfully pull out a quarter and gleefully examine it as a treasure.

Notice how Adam explains things and Brandon asks "What does that mean?" Shows that Adam actually knows how those things are being made. He is a craftsman while Alinger is more of a collector, a businessman.

Hey Adam! To thin out your medallion, I'd try making a simple box mold in soft silicone, and compress it extra firmly with plates while casting. You may luck out and get a part that's thinned out just right. I've compressed the dimensions of cast parts more than once this way- both intentionally and unintentionally!

My favorite prop is the Staff of Ra that proves Harrison Ford if four feet tall. Six Kadams high is said to be 72 inches (six feet), but "remove one Kadam" makes it five feet. Yet when in the map room, the staff towers over Indy by a foot, thus making Harrison Ford only four-feet tall!

I met Chuck Waters (stunt co ordinater on Raiders) when I was working 2nd unit grip on "Wrongfully Accused" with Leslie Nielsen in 1998. We were rolling a barrel with a Leslie Nielsen dummy down a hill (about 25 times). We started chatting and he told me who he was and I was like "I didn't know I was in the presence of a Hollywood legend". Nice guy, took the time to talk to people. I worked on most of the movie on both 1st and 2nd unit. The property where the house was was gorgeous, a nice little cove on the ocean. The moving platform deck on the front of the house was sure handy for moving equipment up. Fun times.

It never ceases to amaze me how much detail is put in props we only see for seconds in movies. It also never ceases to amaze me how much time fans spend making replicas, probably far more time than the original prop masters.

Two fanatic nerds discussing their fandom. My people! The Raiders series was a favorite among my father and myself. When the internet and later music services became a thing sometimes he'd ask me to put on the theme to Raiders. He was a big John Williams fan as well as the work that Danny Elfman did for Tim Burton with the Michael Keaton Batman movies. But yeah. I love the details in the grail diary and that Adam immediately points out that this is the cup of a carpenter 😀

I love the first three movies.. I liiiike the 4th.. But my personal favorite is definitely Last Crusade. Watching that movie and seeing Harrison Ford and Sean Connery as the dad/son combo just makes me appreciate my own father more since he's the one who introduced me to the franchise when I was a kid! ❤

For fun: Watch the opening scene of Last Crusade when he's a kid, then Temple, then Raiders, then pick up at the boat scene back in Crusade. You get to see the full character arc of Indy as both an adventurer, and as a person, even watching his morals and ideals shifting. It's a little complicated, but fun for a weekend marathon.

Over 40 years?!!!! To put that in perspective...These props are about the same age as if someone was looking at 1939's The Wizard of Oz props back when Indiana Jones premiered. Damn, I feel old.

For paper props, I really like Uncle Fester's luggage tags from this auction. From the pic, the lot for sale is either a very good photocopy/unused set, or the original masters, as there seems to be some shadowing where layers of paper would be glued together, on something clearly handmade, with some hand-lettering, some letter transfers, and some letters drawn, cut and glued on top.

The amount of detail to make the grail diary period is just amazing. I wonder where the hero one with all those inserts ended up? Getting that close to such iconic props, excluding the Staff of Ra(which was a crew gift), must have been incredible.

I love how they're using Gloves to handle them carefully and not leave residue on them ... and Adam is so conditioned now he instinctualy shoves it up against his arm ruler to measure it.

depends upon the prop. some props a glove could damage. usually if your hands are throughly cleaned then even ancient relics are safe to touch whereas a glove could destroy them since gloves do not tell you how much force you are putting on something. lots of museum workers know not to use gloves on a number of artifacts including ancient paper

Today, I'm a great grandmother. But when Raiders of the Lost Ark came out, I was a precocious, bookish, strange little girl who loved archeology as much as sci-fi and fantasy. My family and extended family were very academic and 3 of my 4 grandparents had Master's degrees. While I attended Sunday school for many years, we weren't very religious, but I was fascinated by the stories. Thus, at a very young age, besides LotR, Dune, Foundation, I also read the Bible, cover to cover. So for me, when I walked out of the theater after Raiders, I felt similar to how I felt after Star Wars for the first time: it was a profound, life-changing event. To this day, Raiders is my favorite movie of all time......

On the grail, I think that rigging was used when Elsa dives for the grail and it looks like she knocks it farther away. Replaying the clip, it looks like it moves faster than it should.

I worked in props for a theater for a while, it blows me away thinking that if I had just worked on something that had taken off crazily that there could be people working hard trying to reproduce my pieces to the finest detail. That's crazy, I'd feel sorry for them. The process of prop making is so organic and fluid and RUSHED that replicating one, even for the original artist is hard, sometimes next to impossible. Often you're just grabbing stuff from junk shops or thrift stores and turning it into what you need, who knows if you'll ever be able to find another one of them? I'm in awe of people like Adam who manage to do this to such quality.

This was an interesting video. Two enthusiast sharing knowledge and learning from one another without arrogance or pretentiousness. I don't even care about movie props and I watched the whole video and enjoyed it.

@@gutz1981 oh the angels. Yeah I never saw them myself I don't think. Well, I'm sure I saw them, I simply did not recognize them. They could have used some graphics to highlight them somehow.

I've started to notice that Tested has a big editing problem playing B-roll footage while Adam is demonstrating something. It's a small example but at 7:40, Adam is describing the ark angels meanwhile, the video is still focusing on the close up of the prop.

The cinematic release was Raiders of the Lost Ark. In 1999 for the video release the movie was re-branded with the pre-title "Indiana Jones and the...." But for the people like me who saw it at the cinema, and Adam, only refer to it as Raiders.
