Work continues apace on Adam's pair of xEMU-inspired spacesuits to celebrate the relaunch of the gaming network G4. One distinguishing feature of these suits are how you enter them--through a hinged backpack door. Adam spends this episode creating that backpack, which will also house the suit's ventilation and electrical systems, and builds the all-important spacesuit stand that will allow him to get in and out of the suit during test fittings!

I think the diameter measurement should be oversized, so you can proceed with the cut. The remainder will have the flattened parameter. Also, why not just do your thing and Greet Elon's Mars Crew. On Mars Nice work. Sorry edit, the chord measurement. You want a chord, basic eh

It's exactly the way evolution has worked for millions of years. Testing different "designs" and trying out, which ones work best in the given (changing) circumstances, e.g. environment, climate, predators etc. And basically that's the fundamental difference between science and religion. Religion believes that there is a divine creator who designed everything from scratch and then built it as planned. But evolution has shown us that nature just builds many different things, changes them constantly and then some of these designs prove to be more successful.

I find myself smiling a lot watching Adam brainstorm and work, I see what my wife before she passed away used to say we are so alike. I too used and still do occasionally taking photo's of how far the build has progressed or an area I am either happy or unhappy with. As now I am single I have moved my workshop indoors in my lounge to be precise, so now I can just walk from my bedroom to the lounge, and sometimes if I am unsure of something now I can put it next to me or on the chest of drawer's to muse or ponder on how it looks to how functional it is. Now no way am I in Adams league I am capable in all aspects of my hobby, yes I build fifth scale gas offroad trucks and buggies, for myself and other's occasionally. So now you can see why my wife never let me bring them in the house especially the crash damage or just breakages along with winter rebuilds those smelly as in the smell of two stroke petrol and oil mix are not coming in my clean and tidy house I sometimes mange to get as far as the conservatory and only the electric ones, and only passing through lol. Myself I would have used an magnetic latch maybe electro magnetic so any emergency you could get out reasonably quickly. The stand I would have made from Lexan or Plexiglass similar style construction also magnets to hold the suit on the stand easier and quicker release set up. just an idea I have been toying with while I watched part 1 which I enjoyed and could not wait for further episodes.
@randycarter2001

Best kind of latch for something like this, MAGNETS. No mechanism to break, can be opened quickly in an emergency, will not require the occupant to be able to reach the latch handle. Remember this thing is a replica. You can always build fake latches to make it LOOK real.

I so can relate to Adams creative process when it comes to designing stuff especially 3d. A drawing is great to begin with, but seeing it built you have a better ability to see problems, adjust and to solve or add new ideas to it. To me a drawing is a guide to start a project and the adventure and creative buzz of discovering along the way (especially after problems) is really hard to describe to those who don't understand. It is one of the things I love about creativity. "Happy little accidents" or learning something new things in the process that you will use for future ideas.

I'm so happy to have discovered this channel! I've been binging on the 'one day builds' for the last few days while recovering from a medical procedure. I loved Mythbusters back in the day and to see Adam here with just as much enthusiasm as on that show is just heartwarming. What I especially enjoy and respect is how (unlike most KZfaqrs) Adam hasn't turned himself into a soulless salesman, ordering us to like and subscribe every 5 minutes. Instead, what I feel when watching these episodes is that I'm being let in on Adam's genuine working day. Bravo and thank you, Adam for your authenticity and enthusiasm.

One of the things I love most about your videos, Adam, is how you present the problem first. Then I think, "okay, I think I might approach a solution in /this way/," and then I get to see you come up with /your/ solution -- it's a nice moment of connection, to think of your mind (albeit in the past) and my mind working with and against a common conceptual problem, and then contrasting the approaches (yours generally being better, because of your skill and experience).

Example -- me: angled rear struts for the stand ("Donning Rig", in homage to Neal Stephenson)! That would line up with the angle of the ladder (assuming it's angled)! (And then the absolute anticipation of seeing what /you/ do)

One thing that might be neat would be using a multi-color LED inside a clear lens, for the alert light mast. You could run it blue for normal operation, plus switch it to red as a distress signal. Machine tools do it with a stack of independent lights and lenses, but that takes up more space and looks sloppy on a moving suit.

There's a docuentary Video here on youtube somewhere talking about how the Russians got a SURPRISE the first time a cosmonaut went out in space and almost couldn't get back INto the spacecship (!!) because of the ballooning-effect of the spacesuit. (If I remember correctly the 2nd part of the story was whether they should tell the Americans...but I forget what the verdict was)
