I gotta admit, Vader turning up at the end of Rogue One really gave me the joysies. But the plans being handed to Leia at the very end, and seeing the late Carrie Fisher in her young CGI form tied things together in such a nice flourish I really appreciated. I knew where it was going, obviously, but it still had a huge impact. I did like seeing Vader being a badass. He's a menacing presence in the movies always, obviously, but besides some smaller skirmishes with Luke, we never really get to see the connection in awesome lightsaber wield and force use from Anakin to the powerful presence Vader had. Rogue One gave us that. It was fan service but also served a narrative purpose, and I like those moments the best. This is also what has made Mandalorian such an awesome series. It's Star Wars without being Star Wars but also while really being Star Wars. It's just enough of everything to feel perfect, and never over the top or underwhelming. Alas, I'm rambling. Thanks for your video, Adam. Entertaining and enlightening as always.

Yes to both. And John Williams’ sweeping score highlighting the Twin Suns scene. Really compelling. As a 12 year old watching the lightsaber intro in the theater in 1977, my mind was completely blown. None of the sequels or prequels since have matched that scene in terms of mystery and sheer fascination.

Has to be the title crawl for me. Even as a kid, watching Star Wars for the first time, knowing nothing about it. The moment after the 20th century fox intro, when everything falls silent and the "... galaxy far, far away" "comes up, and then the "Star Wars" title and the music just explode in your face - I immediately understood, this was going to be a life-changing experience.

I can still remember sitting in the theater, 1977, watching the beginning of the first film. The music, the crawl of the words, the camera tilt showing the first ship and then the never ending large ship in pursuit. I even said to myself, if the film breaks now and this was all I saw, it was worth the price of the ticket!

My favorite moment in Star Wars is when the Rebel Fleet jumps out of hyperspace over Scariff, and the introduction to all the pilots and Admiral Raddus. Everything about that moment in Rogue One was fantastic, and never have I been so happy in a Star Wars experience as when I saw Red Leader and Gold Leader, the real ones from Episode 4, show up there. There were moments of "Oh hey, that guy." and "Oh look, it's them." before, but that was like "Holy crap, they're here! That's awesome!!"

The star wars scene that brings me the most joy is actually in the Mandalorian - Boba Fett's armour has these little knee rockets, which you didn't see get used in the original trilogy - I remember as a kid reading a star wars fact file or illustrated guide that outlined what everything in the armour does, which mentioned the knee rockets - when it became sort of obvious that boba fett was about to actually use the knee rockets in the mandalorian, I found myself literally chanting "knee rockets! knee rockets!" at the screen, and still can't help but do it on subsequent viewings.

Goes to show how good the special effects were when you don't notice them. Two suns, the set design, the lighting and composition, all of those *are* effects, but our brains focus on how real they are to us in the moment because the design and implementation doesn't take us from the emotional resonance of the scene. It *feels* real. THAT is good effects work-ones that aren't per-se "realistic" but give us a deep sense of the universe's verisimilitude.

My favourite scene covers both what makes me happiest, AND pleases me from an SFX point of view, and that scene is the asteroid chase soon after the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. Visually there is so much going on here with different sized vehicles moving as dynamically as they do in all of Star Wars media, even the latest from today. It’s an SFX tour de force, and it was done completely analogue, which is so impressive. Added to this is the way that Harrison Ford completely stole the show in that film. Han Solo IS the main character in Empire, and the dynamic between him and the rest of the cast was awesome. Solo, combined with the Falcon, combined with that chase scene, combined with how he manages all of the problems right there in the moment, always brings me joy to watch.

i think what gets me most is the beginning of Jedi when Luke appears at Jabbas to rescue Han. the last time we seen them Luke was under cloud city holding onto a tiny little wire antennae hanging on for life, his hand just got severed and he was absolutely mentally crushed from finding out the truth about his father. he was as beaten and defeated as he could possibly be, physically mentally and morally. Han was just frozen and taken away and we have no idea if he is alive, and Leia, Chewy and Lando are fleeing for their lives. everyone is just down and out. so just seeing Luke back on his feet and confident and a journey to save his friend use to really get me.

Scene that brings me joy as a fan: I loved when Rey first flew the Falcon, when Vader laid waste to the crew in the hallway on the Tantive IV in Rogue 1, and having recently started the Mandalorian, the end credits. That music is so good and I love getting to see the concept art. That or any time the Mandalorian is a straight up western. Scene I love as a fellow builder and model maker: any time I can recognize parts from model kits I've made, for example, there are several parts on the exteriors of ships I recognize as car and airplane parts. That's always fun, like "hey that's an exhaust manifold from a 67 Camaro" or whatever.

I have to admit, when I think of "British colonial rifles" - which I actually do, more often than one might expect - wheellocks aren't what usually come to mind. Mostly because, as far as I recall, wheelocks as a technology where complicted and unreliable and vanished rapidly as soon as flintlocks were developed. So for me, the phrase "British colonial rifle" brings to mind either the classic "Brown Bess" musket (yes, I know that technically a musket isn't a rifle, but honestly most wheellocks weren't rifles either. Adam is clearly using "rifle" as a synonym for "longarm," and because English is a very flexible language we all know what he means), the primary British longarm during the colonisation of the Americas and Australasia, or the Martini-Henry, which was the primary British longarm during the so-called "Scramble for Africa" and the British *government's* colonisation of India. (Martini-Henrys are used prominently in the movie Zulu, at least in the foreground.) Wheellocks are more of a technical curiousity from before the era of colonialism really got started... which maybe makes them a less complicated thing, emotionally speaking, to build a prop around? A wheellock blaster would certainly be very cool! Also, may I note that I love how Adam's favourite scene as a builder is basically "This is the scene that lets me imagine I'm an IN-CHARACTER builder." :D

I like the ornateness of the wheel-lock examples in the V&A Museum, but I feel like the wheel lock itself is less understood by modern audiences. If you look at a plain wheel lock, it doesn't look like an antique gun, it looks like some sci-fi device embedded in the side like you're trying to hide a Romulan disruptor while fighting alongside a primitive culture. Audiences are more primed to expect cap-and-ball or later. Almost all of the steampunk aesthetic derives from Hollywood cowboy movie tropes with gears and a brass rivet Bedazzler applied. Wheel lock is a beautiful mechanism and very interesting in action when you realize how it works, but to get a modern audience to understand it, you kind of have to hide the wheel lock itself so people pay attention to the touch cord and flash pan. That said, it's perfect for a base for a Tuskan Raider. We already expect it to fire plasma bolts, so the quasi-futuristic look of the wheel-lock mechanism embedded in an otherwise antique rifle is exactly the right aesthetic. You can also mix the hyper-ornate with the plain and cover it all with weathering and dust to really sell the hodge-podge look and give it a visual story. I do love the attempts to expand steampunk outside of the "American west plus brass" mindset, but while there are amazing examples of steampunk applied to other cultures, the bulk of the aesthetic is still Euro-centric.

The part where what's-her-name does that thing and then the bad guy is like " ahh...no way she can do that!" and then that other thing happens, yeah that's my favorite.

Have you seen the live to picture presentation of ESB? The orchestra knocked that scene out of the park.

@@davidleavitt835 As a matter of fact, I have. I attended a concert of ESB a few years ago, and indeed it was amazing! A must for any Star Wars fan, plus it was my first chance to see one of the OG movies on the big screen.

Had a 1979 FJ40 Landcruiser. Tool box under one rear seat and box of parts under the other. People would watch me fixing it in a parking lot, hard to tell if the were jealous or felt sorry for me...

The entire Hoth sequence for me is still the best piece of movie making ever made! Still stands up against today's cgi efforts! As for individual scenes I'll still go with Hoth and the scene where the snowspeeders find Han and Luke!

Personally I like the Afghan classic rifles for a sand-people rifle. Like the one that features in "The Beast" movie about the tank lost in the canyons

I would love to see Adam make a duct tape and bailing wire custom Y-wing, something from the dregs of the Alliance fleets, not the stars of the main squadrons, the B-team ships that you know have had more than one pilot get blasted in them and the ship salvaged and re-flown because why waste good equipment?

I would have to say there's little bit of "binging" syndrome going on, because the episode with Katee Sackhoff/Bo-Katan is two episodes before the episode with Michael Biehn. I originally thought he met Ahsoka Tano/Rosario Dawson and scenes with Grogu (which was the episode with Biehn) and just misspoke. But then he named Katee Sackhoff, so I think it was just episodes crashing together. And that's okay, because it's all one story!
@elescritorsecreto

I think he did mean Rosario Dawson and just had a brain fart because it doesn’t make sense. Katee Sackoff doesn’t have any scenes with Grogu. And the emotion with Ahsoka/Grogu being two reunited Jedis has a lot more meat than the Bo Katan action scenes.

The Tusken Raider's cycler rifles are based on Jezail flintlock rifles often used in the middle east especially Afghans so an English colonial rifle with intricate metal work probably is not the best match.
