In this video we'll quickly look at possible options for hand guards on the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Both are cheap, both are easy to install. Only one of them is going to really save your knuckles and your bike from damage.
We'll also look at a nice option for a 12v and USB 5v Combo Outlet with Voltage Meter. I'm loving this thing. I can only hope it lasts.

I just spent some time this morning installing the latest version of the two point guards on my Himalayan and it's a real PITA; the master cylinder side in particular. Test fitting and making sure you're not pinching any wires is key. Once fitted I was able to satisfactorily get the controls back to where I had them before the install. It took a little man-handling to align the guards exactly how I wanted when finally tighten everything down. If one looks too close it's clear these aren't made specifically for the bike but nothing over-stressed.

Hi Justin, Came across your channel some weeks ago and I have found it to be very interesting and very useful. You have covered all the modifications that you made to the Himalayan very well. Your explanation's are clear and concise and very well detailed. Your work procedures on the bike are very good and neat and very well explained. I also have a Himalayan as a second Motorcycle and like you, I am getting more fun from it than my new Suzuki XT 650 in many ways. I love the Suzuki but the Himalayan gives me something else. I also think the simplicity of the bike helps. I am enjoying all your video's on here so keep posting. You have a great Motorcycle attitude to riding and working on the Motorcycles. Keep up the good work!

Black and handgaurd and voltage supply are on my list! You may already be following him but a chap by name of Adrian Eades in UK has probably removed every bolt on his bike and lubed it and such, following him is a fun deal. Good luck on the trip! My buddies went to the Circle on bigger bikes and survived, hopefully your tread voids will turn loose of the plastique mud if they are coating the roads, don't need to tell you! :)

People have mentioned him a couple times but I haven't watched any. One popped up on KZfaq the other day and it looked like he was shirtless and I swiped him off my the screen. 😆 But hey, it's been a blisteringly hot summer, so who can blame 'im? I'll check his stuff out. Hopefully I'm not duplicating. And if I am, well, hopefully there's something beneficial to the way in which I provide info and produce the video that people can benefit from.

@@KARMAkazeMoto HAHA, a shirtless Brit, funny. I just meant he has already gone where you are going I think, with regard to lubing various places, and probably has some perspective, dunno. He got a bike that had to have the head replaced, so every trail is different. Looking forward to your trip up north. That's great. On the throttle side you'll have to rotate the front brake line up. No big deal, but be prepared for that. Otherwise really simple. Oh, and if you want to lock your steering, either put your windscreen in the upper position or let the guard push on it a little. It'll lock. I can share a pic with you on Instagram if that helps.

I would keep the black hand guard and send the white one back. Have them send the other black guard. I use Barkbusters on my Triumph Bonneville. I ride when temperatures get above 40 degrees F. The hand guards are great for keeping cold air off of my hands. Love your show. Take care and be safe. Vaughn

I think there was a misunderstanding. I have the other black hand guard, which is actually installed on the bike right now. I only put the white one on there to check it out and to share with everyone else what you get for the $10. My bike currently has the solid black hand guards on both the left and right side. 👍🙂 Maybe I should have explained it better at the beginning of the video. 🙂

Stubbled onto your channel a short time ago, it seems at the right time. I’m looking at buying a 2019 Himalayan,looking at buying a dual sport bike for sometime now, I have a Honda St1300 which I love, but also want a dual sport. There are other channels out there about the Himalayan but what drew me to your channel was the hands on info. My ST is not a bike that I would tackle service on, the Himalayan is, it’s a bare bones bike back to riding routes like the KLR. Buying a new bike for $4900. Is pretty good now a days. So anyways keep up the videos much appreciated!!

You sold me on the hand-guards. Was about to get the RE ones but for the price, the worst case is that I make a $20 mistake. To return the favor, check out RetrofitSource. They have the version 1 Morimoto Sealed 7" headlights right now for $75 and they're an improvement over the knock off Chinese LEDs you buy for $100. For the price, they're hard to beat and usable light at night is a nice thing to have. While the light is now JW Speaker, they seem to be of a damn fine quality for the price. Thus far, my only complaint about my REH is that the factory lamp is absolute crap, even with a premium bulb in the housing.

Thanks! I'm currently testing both an electric tire pump and a hand pump to see which one I'd like to use. Some of those little electric pumps are so slow! I'm not usually in a rush though. My tire irons are from Motion Pro, the style that has a wrench on one end. This one fits the 24mm rear axle nut on the Himalayan: amzn.to/2KjQ7vE. Left was a breeze...right not so easy...had to fiddle spacing as the brake lever would hit or to position the end point so it sat under and around the brake cylinder but I think i got in the end...just really fiddly...and now have to figure low/high fitting on windscreen as they definitely hit against on opp lock...so it woudl be slow speed or maneuvering they would hit. I guess next vid Justin "how to change windscreen positions" :-).

Good to hear. You'll appreciate those. I disconnected the brake line and rotated the end connection / banjo upwards. I was then able to clamp fit the handguard mount in a perfectly normal position, right below the brake line. The right hand guard may not bump your windscreen as much after that. Mine did touch the windscreen a little bit, with a slight pressure, with the wind screen in the low position. With the windscreen in the high position there is a 1/2 inch gap between the windscreen and the handguard.

Hey! I wanted to ask what's your opinion on must have mods for the Himalayan. Planning to buy one in Alaska in July and need to figure out which mods to apply. Probably going to add some mods on the road if the need arises for them, but some essential ones should be added on at the beginning I believe. So which ones would you suggest as an experienced Himalayan owner?
@KARMAkazeMoto
@KARMAkazeMoto 2 жыл бұрын
Kaspar, there's no doubt you're going to want to have heated grips, especially in AK. Handguards are not only helpful for protecting your knuckles, but also deflect some cold wind. Get the luggage rack/pannier rack soon. At some point you can choose to go with the hard panniers or some other brand of soft luggage. Either way, you'll need the rack to keep them in place. Wire in some power outlets up near the handlebars. You'll see I went with a unit that provides both 12v and USB outlets. I've used them both. 12v is great for a little tire pump, or maybe even to inflate your camping mattress. But you'll want a USB charge port to keep you phone charged. While not necessary, I love my engine guard and chain oiler. I think many would consider the GIVI engine guard a huge priority. The chain oiler is not a Himalayan specific upgrade, I just absolutely love that I can fill it and forget it for hundreds of miles. No need to keep lubing your chain. Almost forgot a tank bag. Again, not Himalayan specific, but for the type of bike, and what sort of riding you might be doing... it's really helpful. And assuming you'll ever adjust your own valves, there are a couple tools to make it easy. Engine Guards: amzn.to/3A2gIaI Handguards: amzn.to/2Qj91rd (I can assist with correct install if needed.) Power Outlet: amzn.to/3HT7KhL Heated Grips: amzn.to/3ykAdtD Tappet/Valve Adjustment Tool: amzn.to/3ONhgpb Valve Adjust Feeler Gauges: amzn.to/3ykwOLu Chain Oiler: www.tutorochainoiler.com/ Tank Bag: moskomoto.com/collections/motorcycle-tank-bags/products/hood Some of these are affiliate links. An easy to use thermoplastic that folks use to make custom knife sheaths holsters axe covers etc. Heat with a heat gun bend to form or shape and let cool reinforce with rivets or whatever. In my case a strap heated and wrapped around the handlebar until cool and the drilled a hole to fit socket. Plastic flexes enough to make for a tight snug fit no twisting or twisting. No rust, cheap and easy. Buy it on amazon or eBay.

@@Phoeff99 Could you heat it up on top your engine or near the exhaust?

KARMAkaze Moto as a field expedient heating solution? Probably. But for the same reason not ideal for application near those heat sources. See here for tech specs. sekisui-spi.com/assets/images/products/KYDEX_Sheet_Technical_Brief_140-B_Thermoforming_KYDEX_Thermoplastic_Sheet.pdf It doesn’t take much to soften it which is good for ambient temperature applications but not for those near heat sources. Happy to chat privately about it. I’m no expert though! Just a @thespywholovestobake and former chemist. Sort of.

Hi , thanks so much for your great videos ! I have one question, while using the black hand guard is it still possible to use the steering lock ? I fell like the hand guard would interfere with the windshield.

With windshield in low position it will put a little pressure on it, but still lock. With windshield in high position, no problem at all, plenty of space.

@@quevainaquevaina I just realized I did find white ones, but the mounting hardware was different. I'd be interested to know if they work for you. Could message me in Instagram directly if possible. Keep in mind on the throttle side you need to undo the brake line and rotate it up out of the way. Requires draining and refilling the front brake. 👍

Wait a sec, are you talking about those plastic white ones? Heck yeah those are cheap! But the solid aluminum core ones are just Acerbis guards with no logo. Those are what I'm using, and so far they have held up really well. Unbelievable value. 🙂
