Wanted to say this too, having the straight sword r1 (which are very good) gives the weapon more variety and a good quick attack option.

@@bizon7733 yeah when I upgraded it on my Ghostflame Knight character I instantly was excited cause now I could choose to thrust or make a swipe attack which is amazing

Paired weapon shielding is the opposite of useless, you can't do deflect tear shenanigans on Rellana's swords because you can't block.

It hasn't been doing that for me. I saw a dude put buffs on, possibly drink a physick and when I hit them with the wa, they still had some glowing effects on them. Either it doesn't remove the physick flask effects or it's buggy.

@@lumiverinightstar228 probably latency, it has to connect on your screen and theirs for the effect to work. Same principle as a backstab grab. No phantom hits.

@@robbieliddle2462 honestly it could still be as long as a straight sword like it is now but if they just added it to the light greatswords moveset included obviously it still be drastically better

Tested it with a friend and it can poise through both Giant Hunt and and Great Serpent Hunt. The only thing I think might break it is Lions Claw on a colossal sword or hammer.

@@Donnovo not really realistic. Still looks really cool, but not particularly realistic. The spins are not a thing you would really do. You also spend quite a bit of time with the sword behind your head.

@@evansteflik3576 while spinning the sword is up for protection so it isnt your usual Hollywood spin. Ofc you wouldnt spin that often but since the moveset isnt changeable it is fair imho. Also after every attack the guard is up in a different stance that all exist IRL

⁠@@evansteflik3576you wouldn’t normally pin, but if their is a weapon that gets a pass on this its light greatswords which are heavily based on real world great swords, which often if you fighting multiple opponents you would actually spin with, in order to keep multiple opponents at a distance, also the spins done with the light great-swords arn’t that bad, their quick and show the continuing of momentum. Also as someone else said the stances done after every attack are very real, and directly ript from historical sources yes, including the sword being above your head, that it a very much real guard and has really good downwards cutting, a common misconception about guards it that their for defense, that isn’t always the case often they are simply the apex of preparing for a attack, their ment to give you the most options of easy attack or defense. I would say this is easily the most accurate overall eldenring sword move set other than basic katanas, although I do think the knights greats sword 2hand r1 move set is also a bit more accurate.

They won't do it. If they persist with this awful ground slam for greatswords, then they really have no intention to change any of their prior weapons. But there's another reason: if bastard sword turned into a light greatsword, then what incentive you'd have to buy the DLC? It's a stupid logic, but that's how an executive of bandai namco would undoubtedly think.

yes it’s something i’ve been using to roll catch people who dodge the initial attack combo it’s so good and does massive damage if you land all of it

THIS. it's such a deadly combo, and even if you cant roll catch someone just add a normal R2 afterwards to catch them off guard

I only dropped it in the Jagged peak for the Dragon Hunter to fight Bayle. Probably my two new favorite weapons.

All the base game weapons feel so outdated save for the twinblades. Stuff like the light greatswords and backhand blades should be standard for future games. Even the basic straight sword moveset is so outdated and ugly

Yeah one of my only l gripes of the dlc is how things either have to much hyper armour or can knock me out of my stance/moveset even with 100+ poise

It’s more likely that they’re using the new weapons as prototypes for weapons in future games, since FromSoft has said that Shadow of the Erdtree is the only Elden Ring DLC they’ll make

Can confirm. Even at level 200, splitting stats to 40 in all 4 does less work than just building normally. The scaling on a lot of these quad stat weapons is straight trash. I feel like From wanted "cool weapon anyone can use" but it ended up being "mid-tier garbo that works for no one".

@@ryosumnezu yeah you essentially just do like a 50 / 50 STR and DEX and for the magic attributes I found 20 or 25 let’s you do pretty good damage with either ash of war

Basically the int is for the AoW firing projectiles move and faith is for the fire spin.

They scale primarily with dex, then strength, and the ash of wars are int and faith respectively. While it does boost the standard damage a little, its absolutely a waste to go 40 40 in faith and int, at most you could go 30 in each but beyond that is just wasting the level. Focusing on dex, str, end, and then putting off points into fth and int makes the blades absolute shredders

Unfortunately the poise of the attack is pretty low, so I typically do a jumping heavy which can usually cover almost the same distance

Honestly that's the only thing I dislike about this weapon class (and even then it's so minor a nitpick), they got several other historical stances mixed into the moveset (Ochs being the most notable) but then they didn't bring back the Side Stance for the idle resting stance. Edit: My other nitpick being that they called them "Light Greatswords" instead of "Longswords" which is what they really are.

Same thing in reverse, you can go from the first heavy into a light string seamlessly, and can combo out of the stance light into a heavy as well

Zweihanders historically were not meant to be swung like the milady is man. They are claymore class weapons.

considering how it was historically used, it should be classed with the polearms like halberds/greatspears

@@antarescypher2551 naw it was still swung two handed like any other sword too they just need to add more variety too the colossal sword weapons tbh save the ground smashing moves to like the high fantasy ones like the Ruin Greatsword

​@@lumiverinightstar228 The "Claymore" doesn't exist unless you're talking about the Scottish basket hilt broadsword which is an actual "Claymore". The Zweihänder and the great sword category are meant to be used like a polearm, but you can some European longsword techniques with them.
