Fun fact: That was indeed a true combo. Phantom Slash actually has a lot of true combos, especially when you get hit while casting it. Scythe in particular also has a two hit charged heavy, which true combos with certain skills as well. I really feel like you should revisit it.

Very good video, but as a side note, your opponent's name wasn't rogue (rowg), but rouge (rooj), which means red.

I will always love Sword Dance Grave Scythe for my first and only (so far) playthrough of this game. It's genuinely surprising every time it staggers something you would never expect it to, and the damage output felt crazy with that sweeping range and roll catch.

Props to Monk for always showing the movesets in the Morbius opening theatres so we can get a good look at all the cool animations in this game.

Just so you know, it would be better to use the incantation « bloodflamme blade » because it only needs 12 faith and 10 arcane to cast, only cost 20 fp per cast, gives a high amount of bleed damage and for PvP, the bloodflame bleed does damage even if it procs during the enemy roll

The grave scythe with sword dance ash of war is my favorite on any build, becayse it reminds me of my DS3 days of using the Follower's Sabre to guard break enemies that turtled behind their shield. I have yet to ever use claws, but I really need to try them out some time. Side note, only the Bloodhound claws have the anti-block property that scythes have! Great video as always, Monk!

The halo scythe actually does have a true combo, if you do the aow you can actually hit your opponent with the swing which will combo into the light ring and this will then combo into a R1.

In terms of design my favorite scythe is the grave one. Unfortunately I have never managed to get it so I use the winged one which I do still enjoy a good deal. As for claws I use the basic hook claws the most.

You can farm the Grave Scythe from Summonwater Village in Limgrave, too. Not ideal, but worth noting if you head towards Caelid early on.

I wish there were cooler scythes in the game.the fact that there’s ghostflame deathblight and destined death and NONE of the scythes use any of them sucks I hope in the dlc we get like “godwyn’s reaper” or something like that EDIT:also on what planet are there four scythes and HALF of them use HOLY damage

Side note. A fun combo for looks and actually being good is eclipse knight armor, carian knight helm because it doesn't have one, run with eclipse gs, pike, and the rings of light ash of war. Holy crusader vibes are on point, colors are very consistent, and the build is VERY versatile.

Late to the party, but I used to use the Raptor Talons with pre-nerf Bloodhound's Step and Bloodflame Blade. That combo used to be my mage-slayer build. Super aggressive, and no matter how fast they would run it was never enough to get away. Good times

My first playthrough I was just grinding souls to upgrade my claymore when I got a skeleton to drop the grave Scythe in Limgrave and man did that just destroy bosses Swords dance with bleed and frostbite was devastating

the angel scythe will always be my favorite because the design is just so damn cool and the little feathers with the ash of war are just the perfect touch

Claw weapon idea: specifically for bleed+sepuku(ish) ash of war where the user slashes their body to get more bleed buildup (maybe jagged claws or hoslow claws)

One unique thing about the Halo Scythe: Gigasthiccas recently showed that the scythe hit of the ash of war, the ring hit and a light attack make a 3-hit true combo.

The scythe class can be a really good swap if you’re having trouble hitting someone with the standard meta weapons, either due to latency or good defense. Also, scythe attacks are at a really good sweet spot due to poise changes, since they get halberd poise damage, but you’re always 2 handing a scythe.

I completed my first playthrough dual wielding Grave Scythes at +0 but infused with cold. So cool to give every enemy Bleed and Freezing at double speed.

The very first time I played through Elden Ring I found the hook claws and thought, this is it - claw character. It was very underwhelming though. I even got the raptors talons and used them for a while, but they were not that great. Before Leyndell I had switched over to longer Dex weapons like the Nagakiba and the Bloody Helice. Of course, this was in version 1.02 or something. I guess claws have been buffed a little since then.

The winged scythe carried me the entire game! And since day 1 of souls gaming I carried poison on me at all times, so the venomous fang being the BEST poison source made it a must-have for me

Halo Scythe has to be my favorite. One thing I noticed is in pve a lot of humanoid emeries don’t/fail to dodge miquellas ring of light. Sadly holy sucks against bosses but it was fun for a secondary weapon.

I swear i fought a guy with the scythe, with phantom slash and the exact armour combination in the video a hour ago. Wether someone copied the loadout or if its the real deal, it was so unexpected.

If spinning strikes had poise and/or a true combo, it would reawaken the demon from DS3 that we don’t talk about. One minute, an old lady is selling you a halberd, and the next, you’re mowing lawns in one combo.

I got the grace scythe while farming for the executioners great axe I just got the axe so I killed one of the hanging skeletons and he dropped the grace scythe

Fun Fact: Lifesteal Fist scales Magic Damage with Arcane. But you can actually use weapon buffs, including Scholar's Armament. So you can hit for absolute clown damage if you put Scholar's Armament/Magic Resin on your Claw/Fist and then use Lifesteal Fist. It also doesn't interact with LOCAL Arcane scaling, so it actually does not benefit from the Occult infusion. Which is lame...

I think you’re mistaken about the claws- I don’t think they all have shield piercing properties. I think only the bloodhound’s claws can deal damage through shields, because the description mentions it, and the claws have a curved design.
