Testing LG HG2's 18650 20A 3000mAh from LiitoKala on Aliexpress. Real? Fake? Reject?

In this video I test 3 different samples of LG HG2 cells. 2 purchased from Aliexpress, and one purchased from my known trusted supplier of about a decade. I do a visual inspection, comparing printing and markings, weigh the cells, then do a voltage and internal resistance test to check for consistency and to see if they match datasheet specs.
The 3 cells were purchased from LiitoKala Official Flagship Store.
And other 2 cells were purchased from liitokala 0fficial Store (notice the use of 0 (zero) instead of "O").

That's enough for me to say they are rewraps of some other LG cell. (for now, who knows what ships out next)

Its just a copy, its unkown cell with hg2 wrap. Highly unlikely its actually lg cell

At first glance the fake cell even looked better then the genuine one with it's better tolerances on the insulation ring and it's better looking printed label on the pvc sleeve

Thanks for this, there's a lot of fools out there buying liitokala cells who think they're genuine. Did you ever do a capacity test on these?

liitokalas quality is not bad, and capacity is always right(in my case)...I spot welded 6-7 battery blocks a few years ago and they all still working fine. I use s7p10 blocks for handheld olives harvesting machines... Of course, genuine batteries are better but they cost 3X as much... The capacity dropped after 4 years maybe by 10-20% and I still can work a full day with one battery(over 12 hours)...

Not sure what you think you are testing, but LiitoKala does not claim their HG2 cells are LG HG2. They are LiitoKala HG2 cells. As such, they provide provide about the same energy as LG HG2 (but not the same power). LiitoKala is a good quality battery maker. They do not sell fake or rewraps.

Why do they copy the naming and design of other brand cells?

@@allusernamesistaken They copy part of the naming convention of better known brands to help customers find appropriate, lower cost options. For example, the LK HG2 has about the same energy capacity of an LG HG2. In most applications, an LK HG2 will perform identically to an LG HG2. But if you need the full current capabilities of an LG HG2, then you have have to purchase an LG HG2. I use LK batteries in flashlights, toys, cameras, and many other application that are not using high current. I use Molicel batteries where I need high current.

@@footman7090 But are there actually any difference between their HG2, 30Q etc 3000mah cells? I suppose same cells, different wrapper. Also, they list current specs way higher than these cells can handle. Which is not just false advertising, it's dangerous. They might be okay cells for many applications, but why not be honest?

i've noticed a lot of stores on alliexpress have these "liitokala" stickers on these "official" batteries.. as if putting a sticker on it will make me think you didn't rewrap one of those useless china cells.. i don't trust ANY of those chinese stores when it comes to batteries anymore sorry..

You are measuring the internal resistance of the cells, and to do that correctly you need to fully charge them. I have some liitokala sells here and they do have 15-25 mR internal resistance when charged. You test was poorly conducted. Thanks for trying anyway.

They are fake, but they are good! It is not like ebay china 1.000.000 mah, but it is close to 3Ah. Very useful and good value.

Reviews are always dominated by people who screwed up rather then accept their personal failings and attacked a vendor or manufacturer. Years back the best 18650 batteries came from Japan or Korea. Chinese companies could not match the combination of energy and current, so they created batteries that matched one or the other. LK makes batteries that generally come close to their specifications. If you cannot read the specifications and think you are purchasing an LG HG2 even though marked LK HG2, shame on you. Now China produces the worlds best 18650 batteries including the best in other form factors. No battery from Japan or Korea can match those from Molicel for energy and current.
