The Malvern Hills are a beautiful stretch of hills, woodland and grassland which stretch across Worcestershire attracting a wide array of wildlife. I find myself up the hills testing out some new camera gear as I say goodbye to my Canon EOS R3 and my RF 200-800mm.
Will I manage to photograph anything cool on my hike and what camera system have I decided to switch to?
Find out by watching!

Great choice, just a tip. Slowly, slowly lower the shutter speed and you will get much cleaner RAW files too. Since the lens is very lightweight and has awesome stabilisation. First take a few safe shots at higher shutter speed, when the bird is perched lower the ISO take more bursts at lower shutter speeds. You can handhold this lens even at 1/60-1/80th of a shutter speed. Great photos btwn. 👍

Heya, thanks for the tip! I'd never usually think of shooting that low with such a long lens but I'll give it a shot. Cheers!

Good choice of gear, exactly what I guessed 🎉 Love how rugged Nikon gear is too compared to my Sony bodies. Super happy with my new Sigma 500 f5.6 Sport lens though 😉👍🏻

Z8 is great choice.ATM Z8 is 3800€ and Z6III is 3000€ so I'd choose Z8. Or A1. LOL

The 600 has impressed me more than anything, like I knew the Z8 is a solid camera but that lens 👌

I’d be interested in your views comparing the canon and nikon set up. I’ve heard the canon autofocus is a little better than nikon for birds but I’d be interested in your experience.

It's an interesting point. I used to own a Z9 which I used for low light concerts and the autofocus was mind blowingly good. Likewise, I took the Z8 out last night to photograph a prom and it was incredible, never once missed. For birds however, there have been times when I've been photographing a stationary perched bird and it just hasn't wanted to lock on, the AF planted squarly on the background not willing to move. Forcing me to shift position, photograph on something different a little closer then hope the bird is still perched where I left it. It's done this a few times using a few different focus modes and autofocus selection box sizes. I'd assume this was down to the lens more so but either way, it's not something I experienced that often when using the Canon gear. I can only hope that Nikon implements a firmware update which helps with AF performance for this partiucular lens or it could be something I'm personally doing wrong which I could improve on, only time will tell. Cheers for the comment!
