"Shake well, shake really well" is true. My first try at loading a strop with diamond spray was a bit "spotty". And the result left some unwanted scratches on the bevels, I think, probably due to clumps of diamond dust. For a strop it may help to have a toothbrush or similar to try to get an even distribution, even after it has dried.

Is that felt wheel a little concave? Looks like a little daylight between the edge and the middle of the wheel?

Thank you so much for these videos, but I have a question regarding stropping with diamond sprays. I'm about to order a T-8 with the SG-250 and standard leather stropping wheel. To keep it as simple as possible for a while due to budget, i'd like to keep and use these as my two only wheels but still achieve the best possible results. Should I load the leather strop with green chromium oxide paste for deburring, or spray it with a diamond spray such as 1 micron for deburring? Or possibly a mix of sizes or just .5 micron? I'm not so much worried with getting a mirrored edge, only the longest lasting most durrable cutting edge with these two wheels only. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated, thanks!! Right now I only work with steels AEB-L, Nitro-V, and 1084.

Hi Vadim just received my felt wheel and loaded it with the diamond spray. Can you tell me how often do you reload the wheel with the spray? or is there a way of telling when the diamonds have worn out and need re applying.

Excuse my ignorance but it would be interesting to see what happens to the sharpness if when you are finished with the wheels of all kinds if you would strop the knife on your roo tail. Or have you done this in a test?
@knifegrindersaustralia51583 жыл бұрын
It is shown in this video on the 2nd knife, the SWIBO that after the felt wheel I finish on a paper wheel with chromium oxide, please watch to the end. We finish sharpening either with a wheel with chromium oxide, or the Kangaroo tail hanging strop, and generally but not always, the chromium oxide works better. Generally, the rock-hard felt wheel followed by the chromium oxide wheel complete deburring, and the Kangaroo tail hanging strop cannot improve sharpness any further.

Hi Vadim. Good video that shows how good the rock hard filt wheel are.. I have a question. I only use Tormek t8 and cbn wheels. Along whit leather wheel whit tormek paste, and one leather wheel whit green paste on it. And a rock hard felt wheel whit 1 micron diamond spray on it. I get the results of 80-120 on the Bess. Kan I get lower (sharper) whit these? of do I have to get a paper wheel? Ps I have 0,5 and 0,25 micron paste.. Best wishes Jan E Christensen Ulfberth.dk Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰

Hi Jan :) I live in Norway and sharpen knifes here :) May I ask where you got a hold of your felt wheel?

Knife Grinders the green paste is, chromium oxide strop paste from Windrose England..
@knifegrindersaustralia51584 жыл бұрын
Looks like the pure chromium oxide honing paste. You have the right setup, and if your edge is 15 dps or higher, then the sharpness of 80-100 BESS is the right one. But you should be getting 70 BESS on a 12-13 dps edge of a quality knife. If you are talking of a 12-13 dps edge, then can you describe your deburring of some knife please? - name the knife steel, the edge angle, on what CBN # you set the edge apex, and please detail your deburring steps. Hopefully, we will spot where you may be losing the sharpness.
@Misutoslope3 жыл бұрын
Why do you raise the angle by 2° when moving to the felt wheel?
@knifegrindersaustralia51583 жыл бұрын
Because this removes the wire edge in this knife steel. Other knife steels require different angle. This improves both the sharpness and edge retention. Since I published my Knife Deburring Book, everyone who knows of it follow our sharpening protocols. knifegrinders.com.au/Book_Testimonials.htm

Hi Vadim, excellent research, as always. Question: is it necessary to deburr after SJ-250 Japanese waterstone? Steel is S35VN on Sebenza, edge-leading.
@knifegrindersaustralia51584 жыл бұрын
No, no need. There are 2 BUTs with this approach, though. By honing edge-leading on SJ-250 you have a limit in sharpness of 0.3 micron edge apex, as explained on the page 25 of my Knife Deburring book. Also, generally, high-vanadium steels show better edge retention when honed with diamonds as compared to the SJ Japanese wheel.

Hi Vadim, What would the result be if you just went straight from the cbm wheel to the paper wheel, without using the felt wheel? ie. What is the purpose of the felt wheel that the paper wheel cannot do? Thank you.
@knifegrindersaustralia51584 жыл бұрын
We experimented with all wheels: leather, paper, and felt - the rock-hard felt wheel is the best in removing the wire edge, feather burr and foil burr, giving you a clean robust edge that has better edge retention. For the best sharpness and edge retention, after the paper wheel we continue on the felt wheel at low RPM exactly as shown in this video; then finish with pure chromium oxide.
@RichardMallam4 жыл бұрын
@@knifegrindersaustralia5158 Thank you Vadim. What is the cost of a replacement bottle of diamond spray and how long would the bottle usually last for? And how often should you apply the spray? Thank you.
@knifegrindersaustralia51584 жыл бұрын
The diamond spray shown in the video is from an Australian lapidary supplier, it is of DeBeers monocrystalline diamonds 1.5 carat, 90ml - Australian Dollars $14.50. In deburring with the felt wheel on Tormek, 1 bottle lasts for approx 1,500 knives. Felt holds diamonds for longer than leather or paper wheels

Hi there, can you tell me the height you have your T8's for seated use please?
@knifegrindersaustralia51583 жыл бұрын
For seated operation my stand height is near 40-50 cm (16-20"); I find it optimal for my height of 170cm. My wooden stand top is 36 x 36 cm, and please do not make them any wider or you will have trouble spreading your knees around the corners. But rather than making a stand, you can use a plastic MX Dirt Bike Stand that you see in my videos www.ebay.com.au/i/132663737405?chn=ps
