I got to give Segway props for thinking about the camera man and sending out a set for him as well. I hope more vendors/sponsors see this and do the same. He works hard to help make this production happen and having a second view from a cameras angle from there products in the world we live in can show just how versatile the products can be. Here’s my assessment of this video: Casey is polite. And it’s a sponsored video, so there is no way he is going to be negative. But I do get the impression of silence, meaning I bet these things are not at all convenient. Especially on bumpy sidewalks, cracked roads, gravel paths… Basically 99% of the earth’s surface. So other than being used by office/warehouse/airport employees, this gimmick is going to have minimal widespread retail appeal. It really is going to be a B2B product, and not a B2C product… My two cents.

Agreed! It blows me away that companies like Segway would even make something like this to lose money. Why?
@Ateal317
@Ateal317 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I think he tried to show how much effort and difficulty he had in finding somewhere to actually test them to prove that they aren't useful at all. Lots of the video was him travelling place to place to finally find a spot that worked with them (Penn Station). That was his silent way of proving how ridiculous it is to actually use these.

I like how Casey respected the security guard’s request to not use the segway at the NYC station. Another highlight is when he mentioned the security guard politely told him and his team to not use the segways. Thank you, Casey, for being a KZfaqr who abides by the regulations of places and does not try to irritate security guards and such.

Your video production gets better and better, you always inspire me to up my editing and shooting. Being sponsored I understand this is a direct review of the product but I do like your honest reviews where you tell it like it is. I agree with your suggested options where it would be useful BUT if the airports won't even alow a passenger to fly with a Samsung S8 on a plane I very much doubt they would allow you to travel with these in your carry on given the history of the battery fires. Different product I know but airlines wouldn't take the risk until there is a guarantee they won't catch on fire. Great review as usual. Keep up the good work Casey, life long fan. 👍

I get the feeling that people don't understand how Segway's technology works. That's cool but I would like to share. I have owned a Segway i2 since 2007 and a Segway MiniPro. I also own a pair of the Segway Drift W1. You put your feet on the platform, then the sensors sense your movement. You lean slightly forward, backward, turn your body, stand straight - it moves with your direction. It seems daunting, but is easy to get the hang of it. The idea of straps on a gyroscope platform is dangerous. You don't want to be strapped to two independent motors. It's better to hop off or stumble than lose control as it pulls you in multiple directions. You are thinking of traditional skates with straps. This is a totally different technology. If you can't picture what I've articulated, think of a strap on an electric skateboard or e-scooter. It's best to stumble and hop off than fall PLUS be pulled by motors.
@RaidOctober

^^ This is exactly what came to mind when reading all these comments from people saying how it's 'flawed' that there are NO straps Its easier to hop off the damn thing in an emergency

It's weird to see Casey not give his real opinion because he's paid. I bet he wanted so badly to tell us how not convenient those are to commute anywhere. He had to go all around town to find ONE place that had a smooth enough floor and where it's tolerated... smh

GLOBIK He gave his honest opinion. " It's good indoors", isn't that honest enough. He first started on the road, didn't enjoy it, moved indoors, enjoyed it, YT comment: he's not honest. Maybe he should've tried it on water.

For sure, but they would make sense in a airport to just rent like a bike to get to the other side of ap, but who wants to carry two 7 pound segways in their back pack when you could just use little skateboard, they aren’t really solving a problem just fun for who can afford

These would be so much better if they paid a little more attention to design. If they came with some sort of latching mechanism that you could latch your shoes into, and if they could snap together and had some sort of attachment loop or something so you could hook them to a backpack, idk. Also if you could swap out the wheel depending on what surface you're going over.

So you want to be strapped in if a motor malfunctions and starts taking your feet in different directions?
@unfortunately_fortunate2000
@unfortunately_fortunate2000 5 жыл бұрын
you obviously have never eaten shit with roller blades or on a "race bike" that has those toe straps before, lol. strapping your feet in, if avoidable is ALWAYS the best option an makes things safer, whats the first thing you do when you're falling off a skateboard/scooter? jump off (most of the time, sometimes thats the worst decision possible too, keep in mind.) having your feet locked in on a system that seems fairly stable and SAFE already, only creates unnecessary danger.

Used to manage a Brookstone that sold Segway. One night I received a call that the store was broken into and had to go meet up with some cops so they could see security footage. Before they left, the Sargent asked if he could ride one. So, I let him try. With all his gear being off balanced, as soon as he stepped on it took off. He went flying in the air and landed kinda hard. Wish I had a copy of that footage lol.
