In this video, I experiment with several different stains on White Pine wood. I wanted to see the effects of different stains, some are good and others not, hope this helps somebody.

You are so very kind for taking time to stain and make swatches for us to compare! I was patiently anticipating the reveal for Minwax’s “JACOBEAN” though. I’ve already applied my stain to a floating shelf made from THREE varying mystery wood found in garage and I did get desired dark shade. Except some areas were TOO dark, almost black w/no grain reveal whatsoever.

yep, gunstock is my favorite too. second or even third coat will make it darker.

Nice comparisons, thank you. I go for pine for most projects. I'm looking to build me a little side table next to my futon but hate how some stains look on pine. Gonna try that Kona out. I'll link ya a pic when I'm done.

Great video. Definitely helps to see the colors after it’s applied. Also good advice on the conditioner, several years back I did a project with pine I didn’t know anything so I applied stain without conditioner and it turned out terrible!

I love golden oak on pine. It warms up beautifully over time too. As a very casual DIYer, I'll just put a couple coats on & anymore (or darker stains) just makes the imperfections stand out more.
