Testing the New Remington Premier TSS Turkey Load

We are two months before the Tennessee Turkey season, so I wanted to share my test results for the new Premier TSS Turkey loads in 12, and 20 gauge at 40 yards. If you are a turkey hunter, then you may want to see my final results.

March 3rd??? I only wish. Can’t get here too soon for me, Winter is down right depressing, even though we have it good here in Virginia compared to other parts of the country. Those strikers are fine looking, what wood did you make them with, looks like walnut. I find myself doing the same thing, trying various strikers with the multitude of old calls I have. You don’t have to convince me of the great patterning and knock down power of TSS when paired with the right choke and gun. I switched over to 20 gauge five years ago, it does the job. Bring it on!!!! Another informative video!!!

I guess it was wishful thinking on my part. I meant to say Feb. the 3rd. Oh well, it'll be here soon enough. Those strikers are indeed made from walnut. I will be attending the NWTF convention this year, and maybe I'll find some new calls to try this year. Talk to you soon Wayne.

Have a safe hunt. Thanks for the Good information about getting 😊 your shells early. I have a 🦃 license for Gregory County in South Dakota. Lots of Public land to hunt and lots of Turkey's 🦃🦃🦃🦃.

They work but we’ve killed a lot of turkeys without that high dollar ammo.

So have I. Years ago I tested Heavy-Shot loads against copper plated lead, and I was totally convinced they were much more effective, especially at longer range like 40-55 yards. Then TSS comes along with even more performance, and knock-down power.

Thanks for the video. After years of carrying my Remington 870 and taking many turkey with it I finally wanted to lighten things up and bought a Stevens 301 single shot. I spent some time patterning that shotgun with TSS #9 shot. I found that of the three chokes I have (the one that came with the gun and two Carlson chokes) the tightest one just did not work well. I think it was blowing the pattern out from being too tight. That was a Carlson 555 choke. When I switched to the Carlson .565 I got really good results with it and it proved itself during the season as well by rolling a long beard over dead at 45 yards. It certainly pays to pattern the gun to find the right shot and choke that gives the best results.

Thank you for all your great educational videos. Been a subscriber now for a few months. I love all of your 22 rifle videos. You have inspired me to dust off my 22 rifles and take them out once again.Also i have recently added a Glenfield 60 and a Revelation 120 western auto to the collection. Keep up the good work sir.

Great review and content I love them primos tight was choke I have one for my Mossberg 930 turkey it shoots all tss well with a good uniform pattern and it's a cheap choke and I watch a lot of other turkey pattern videos and you cannot hardly beat that tight was for price it actually out performs my Indian creek 660 in the 930 buy a little bit but great content thanks for sharing

Great info. I have been using Winchester Long Beard with a Trulock choke that the owner recommended a few years back. It worked out past even past 40 yards. But want to send you some sympathy for your shoulder though because testing turkey loads is punishing. I keep thinking about testing standard loads like used years ago and just plan on getting them closer .

Winchester Long Beard has been quite effective for many hunters ever since it was introduced. Good stuff!

I don't hunt but the people I know that hunt use #4 high brass.

As a non hunter I don't understand what tungsten brings to the table over lead copper or steel shot

you can shoot smaller size shot and still have the same penetration as a bigger size lead load. but with the smaller size shot you have a lot more pellets on target. i shoot number 9 tss. it has twice the density as number 5 lead. and a lot more shot to throw down range.

That's right! A number 9 TSS shot has more impact than a number 5 copper plated lead shot at extended ranges. TSS is substantially heavier than lead by volume. Here is a link to an article I read on the subject.randywakeman.com/HowGoodisTungstenSuperShot%20Really.htm @@ssmith32183

That Remington load is the worse TSS load made. You would be better off with Longbeard Xr`s.

What is your comment based on? Do you have any tangible evidence to back up your statement?

@@CumberlandOutdoorsman yes over 12 years of loading and shooting TSS .. i have shot every commercial load on the market. Your Remington's seemed to be the worse and hold no advantage over Winchester Longbeard xr`s from my pattern sessions. My experience take it for what it's worth. But i do see you wear a Remington ball cap. :)

I suppose a side-by-side comparison would be the way to go. I'll look for some Winchester Longbeard XR ammo, and see what kind of results I get. What gauge, choke, and shot size would you recommend? @@leroydaniels5793

@@CumberlandOutdoorsman Guage is your preference. in a 12 gauge something in the 660. to 665 range will give nice even patterns from i have seen. And i am biased to #6 lead.

Thanks Leroy. I'll see what I can find. It always seems like whenever I want to try a certain kind of ammo, it's hard to get. I think Bass-Pro might have some in 3 inch 12 gauge.@@leroydaniels5793
