Testing UDPBD Server Using Linux Mint in VirtualBox and PS2 (2023)

Today's video I showcase how I got UDPBD server linux version working under Linux Mint using VirtualBox. This way I could run Linux within Windows 11 and not have to install a separate operating system on my computer.
I do apologize in advance when you see the ps2 video that the audio is choppy. This is a side effect of my audio editing software and I'm still working out the bugs. In reality, the ps2 audio is flawless using the method. Enjoy!
Errata: I may have said Mint OS in the video, when I really meant to say Linux Mint. Well, you guys probably got the idea!

Have you tried udpbd server in 2023? Let us know what your experience has been? Or if you are still ps2 gaming, what are your favorite ps2 games of all time?

On windows udpbd works great, much better than USB. In GTA vice city, load times are much faster, loading cinematics, the house etc. To use udpbd in a router, i think that you have to use OpenWRT. Its difficult to do it.

I followed this project in the beginning, but for now I'm happy with OpenWRT and SMB on my Orange Pi Zero and if in the future there is the implementation of the UDPBD protocol it will be the definitive solution for launching games via Ethernet. Using a PC as a server seems to me to be an impractical solution.

I still use winhip on a old XP pc , i do use USB sticks to play PS1 games though.

PS2 Fat with IDE to CF + CF to SD adaptor + SD extension cable is the way to go

I'll put this on my list for 2024. Short answer in meantime, if you know how to setup static ip on the ps2 to match what the udpbd-server is looking for, then you are solid.

Totally off-topic: are you from Minnesota or Pennsylvania or somewhere in the midwest? I'm trying to place your accent. It's the Ds in place of THs you do ("de" instead of "the"). I'm Canadian so I have no idea about American accents unless they're from the DEEP SOUTH lol.

Running Mint in a Proxmox VM (no firewall) .... everything works on this side like your video. PS2 (75000 series) have tried every combination of Static and DHCP in OPL ... the PS2 only shows up on the network if I have ETH set to auto but even then it will not connect to udpbd server. Also tried with smb on my Nas server and get error 200 lan adapter not found. The PS2 shows up on the network but am unable to ping from PC.

This is the fun part. It's been awhile since I revisited this topic and other combinations. Best to post question in the psx-scene discord or their forum and their devs can better assist and quicker than I can. I plan to revisit this topic again soon and if I learned any other new methods that work, I plan to make follow up videos.

If you have a router with usb mass storage support, then ETH is best option for ps2 slim

Small Correction, you need to install G++ first, or it won't compile, also much like on windows for what ever reason, this does not work for me. Thanks for the video though

How long until we can run udpbd on a raspberry pi or mini router?

The raspberry pi works as long as you know basic compiling and run similar commands as I did. The mini router requires custom firmware with udpbd functionality, which I have no idea how to do. Still awaiting for one of the ps2 devs to do it before I know how 😂

Raspberry pi/stb that has linux armbian or raspbian, they work like this, I guess.

I would say performance is the same, but depending on the user, one method maybe easier or harder. Pick your poison. For people who love linux for example, then this method maybe easier.
