This is my first photography podcast and I talk with photographer Nick Carver. Nick is an excellent photographer who knows his craft incredibly well. We discuss making KZfaq videos, working during lockdown, van life and of course we discuss all things photography.

Kinda... I think the number of people who appreciate his work are a reflection of the number of people who really love photography and get off their arses and do it. The clickbait monsters, well you can guess the rest, it's the first thing on the menu, for those not going any deeper than 20billion pixels and eye and nipple focus guarantee... pass me the remote :)

Nick’s anecdote about a truck in front of his shot reminded me of when I was doing something similar, waiting with my eye to the viewfinder for a gap in the traffic. After I had taken the shot I saw a bus driver had stopped and waited for me, I waved thanks, she smiled and drove on.

Brilliant show, from two people I highly respect. Your attempts to describe why you both love shooting on film, are fascinating. I have started shooting film again after picking up my dad's old Olympus OM10 and seeing if it still worked... It's magic, and feels somehow more like the images are more "authentic", and a wonderful feeling to go back to techniques that take just a little more thought at the time of shooting. Hope this series lasts a long time!

Thanks Thomas for the talk with Nick. He is a genuine guy and has a dry humor that is great. It is satisfying to see younger photographers appreciate film. Being in my 70's I spent nearly 50 years in the darkroom and had a real love of the process. I always enjoy your videos and your outlook on photography. Forgot to add. As you’re a professional photographer and taking photos is work (annoying as it may be that you get to do it for a living😉) I can’t see any issue with you going out and vlogging. Although I can see that you may be a bit apprehensive of the welcome that you might get from local residents, and the tedium of having to explain that you are doing your job. Given the time of year it’s a bit awkward to be in and out before anyone else is aware you’ve been.

Great show Tom! It was super chill and both of you were really natural with it. I can definitely relate to the awkwardness of having to film KZfaq videos in crowded areas, cause I've done that more than I'd like to, lol. It's interesting though, that both you and nick have the same feelings about having the wives around (or anyone helping I suppose). I feel the opposite. When my wife quit her job and started being my camera lady for the videos, I think it actually made me more comfortable, because she helped me be more relaxed and more myself. I guess the difference is that she's a photographer too, and my business partner, so she's not just tagging along, she's working too, and I think that really helped/helps me. Like when we have to go out to film in crowded areas, if she's there I can just focus on her and talk to her behind the camera and it helps me forget (or try to at least) all the other people around. Anyways, great stuff man, I'm really looking forward to more of this style from you!

What a treat! I found Nick Carver's KZfaq channel through this channel and really enjoy his photography and his manner of presentation. His color landscape and cityscape work reminds me a bit of the early colorists (roughly 1950s and beyond). His fractured window photos from Paris could have been out of a Saul Leiter exhibit. I believe i also found Ben Horne's work from watching videos here, and he would make a great guest for this new series, as would Brendan van Son.

An hour of two of my favorite photographers. Great show and conversation. Thank you for this. I would love to see you and Peter McKinnon on Tethered. The name is prefect.

My favourite photographers having a conversation. This is so good! If you don't make another one with Nick, I'll need to watch this one over and over.

Hello Thomas, I absolutely love your youtube videos! I'm in the middle of watching a marathon of them. The things I like about them is watching your hiking and campground relaxing or sometimes desperately hiding from the weather elements. I also enjoy looking at your camping gear and your photography of course. I am very new to photography and I have learnt a few powerful hints from yourself to help my photos, one in particular is that it's better to be a minimalist than to try and get everything in a single photo. Please keep up with the excellent videos, I love them!

I have been following for a couple of years now. I like it that you are not afraid to recognize talent where there is talent. Particularly, I like how you are comfortable praising the work of other photographers and recommending other KZfaqrs. I started following Nick Carver after you recommended him. You are a good person. You will do well. Thank you for the great content!

Been watching both of you for a while, the need to (not) constantly zoom in and out makes you guys a pleasure to watch.

Such a fantastic conversation with lots of things we can all relate to. 👍 Thanks to both of you for putting this together. The filming for KZfaq struggle is real. 😆

Love it! I don’t have any suggestions for other photographers but I like the format. I think it was insightful seeing how the blurring of professional and personal life has been for you guys. Something you don’t see on the usual KZfaq videos.
