Text Basics - Text Tool in Clip Studio Paint

This is the first of 3 videos on using text in Clip Studio Paint. It was just going to be one video, but there's a lot to cover! This one goes over the basics of using the Text tool, the next will have a bunch of advanced tips and tricks, and the third will be a supplemental video on features more commonly used with non-English language alphabets, especially Japanese.
This video covers where to find the Text tool, adding text, moving, rotating, and resizing, editing, changing text properties (including on multiple text objects at once!), multi-line text, auto wrapping text boxes, and text layers.

came here specifically to find out how to do text boxes with automatic wrapping, learned a whole bunch of other stuff! using text in CSP now feels much less tedious than before lol. thank you so much! your tutorials are very easy to follow and pleasant to listen to, i'm definitely subscribing :)

Thank you! this is amazing and very useful! Because of this video I upgraded to 2.0 because I want to be able to drag in a text box without distorting font, and keep that text box set in place with text wrapping :)

The text wrapping updates in 2.0 were really helpful, and being able to change fonts for more than one text block at a time! I didn't even realize that was a feature since it wasn't something they were highlighting, I only realized it after I upgraded. Bonus!

Amazing tutorial! Such a huge help! Is there any way to make a wrapped text box that doesn't cut words in half when it makes a new line?

I haven't actually seen it do that unless the text box is too narrow for a word. If you're using a language that doesn't have spaces between words, like Japanese, you just need to manually add line breaks instead.

I feel slightly aghast buying CSP 1.0 back in mid-2022 and WHAAAAA it's not THAT MUCH WORSE but the text tool in 1.0 is... missing some pretty neat things............ I guess I should upgrade to 2.0. THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME AWARE OF THIS (apparently it was even more limited before 2022????? How the heck did they get away with this)

I hear you! When I first started using CSP, I kept switching back to Photoshop for any text stuff. It's really surprising given the focus of the program was originally on comics! Glad to see the text tool is getting better. They even gave it a new upgrade with 3.0 so we can write along a curve, finally!

Thanks! What is the shortcut for confirming text and exiting the editing mode? So I don't have to click on the tick (I'm use to pressing Escape in Photoshop)

Shift-Enter is the shortcut in CSP. Funny enough, I couldn't find it documented anywhere, I just found it by chance. Escape is the equivalent of hitting the cancel button.

i have this problem where all the text i type out ends up gathering in just one caracter space, like, every letter is on top of eachotner and ive tried everything :(

Go into the text tool's Sub Tool Details under Font, and make sure Character Spacing is set to 0.0, and Condense Text is set to 0. Also, under Text, be sure Text Direction is Horizontal instead of Vertical. Those are the things I can think of that could cause a problem like that, I hope it helps!

I have the same problem on version 3.0, but not version 2.7. Looks like a bug to me!

I reset my select tool palette to default and everything works correctly now!

Is drag no longer an option in the current version? I can't find it in my text settings

It's still there as of the latest version. If you don't see it on your text tool properties, open the sub tool detail palette (click the wrench icon or go to Window -> Sub Tool Detail), and click on Operation. You should see the Drag option there. If you also want to see it in the text tool properties, just click the little eyeball icon next to it. I hope that helps, it's not quite as easy to explain in text!

Hi, nice tutorial. i have a small problem: I don't have the rotate handle! The only way I found to rotate the text is by rasterizing It and then by using the transform tool. I have the 1.6.2 CSP version. Is that the problem? Thank You!

Hi! Unfortunately, yes, it looks like it was a feature they added in 1.9.1, along with the ability to skew and flip text. Sorry about that! :(

Hi there! I cover vertical text in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m92fp82Imq_KdHU.htmlsi=Et6z6q7PJP74ci1e&t=219 CSP doesn't handle vertical text as well as other programs, but hopefully that'll change in the future.
