*Thing you Missed:* Flamethrower: According to lore, Pyro's main weapon-of-choice was apparently personally built by the very thing that wields it. Backburner: An old update page reveals the Backburner originally did not come with the eyes painted on it. The festive variant seems to be inspired off of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Nostromo Napalmer: The name "Nostromo" is a reference to the name of the spaceship that encountered Xenomorphs. (The name of the ship was "Nostromo".) Rather oddly, it doesn't have any specific killstreak kits; you just take a killstreak kit for a standard Flamethrower and apparently that's how you apply killstreaks. Detonator: Rather hilariously, there was a hidden page for the Uber Update that revealed the Detonator, with a sticker on the "poster" reading _"Don't worry Pyro fans. We only left out the Engineer!"_ This of course was a nod to the fact that Engineer was the only class who got absolutely nothing out of the Uber Update. When first released on to TF2 Beta (remember that, guys?), the "flare jump" was also notably higher compared to the released version. Manmelter: Official promotional material on both the Weta Workshop and the TF2 Blog indicate the full name of the weapon is "Manmelter 3600 ZX". It also has an unique, unused projectile in the game files. Thermal Thruster: There is apparently a third unused texture that colors the jet pack pink, and appears to have been drawn on with blue and yellow crayon, giving a very strong Pyroland-look. The Postal Pummler: Despite the creator uploading an updated version of the weapon that not only includes bodygroups but also an update to textures (and LOD, if I recall correctly), Valve has ignored it. Maul: The word 'maul' comes from the Latin word "malleus", which means "heavy hammer". Powerjack: The jack is based off the kind found on a 1910's Ford Model T. What's interesting to note is that it is missing the ratchet mechanism which is used to select whether the lever action raises or lowers the screw jack. The "rubber bands" holding the battery to the jack are also based on fan belts from a 1910's Model T (though in real life the belts were actually brown leather belts). Backscratcher: According to a publicity blurb: "When asked about it, the Pyro claims to have found it in the garden and has been using it as a backscratcher, though we must admit we have always wondered how the bent teeth and bloodstains got there. Now we know." Sharpened Volcano Fragment: According to a press release from Trion Worlds, the SVF was originally going to share stats with the Axtinguisher. Third Degree: Aside from the nod to burn wounds, the name is also based on an idiom, which refers to painful interrogation. (That's a non-sexy version of BDSM, in case you don't know.) Final note: The 2006 Trailer for TF2 show the rubber hose on the Flamethrower connected to the canister on the Pyro's back, which indicated that was the fuel source. In real life, the M1/M2 Flamethrowers could generally give off enough fuel for seven or eight seconds worth of fire if sprayed non-stop. Most M1/M2 operators were supplied with roughly 5 to 7.5 gallons worth of fuel to burn. Despite the Soot Suit saying the Pyro carries ten gallons of gas "in the back", and the math backing this up (Pyro can get around 15 seconds or so of non-stop fire), the flames are clearly not napalm based, as napalm was rather infamous for having very long range (for a flamethrower), with distance of 30 yards being obtained without much difficulty if the operator knew what he was doing. Another thing to note is that napalm had a tendency to "ricochet" off of walls and similar obstacles if fired at an angle, which is obviously not doable in-game. Napalm also tends to come out as a jet (think of a fire hose), so it's probably a safe bet that the Pyro isn't using napalm, but likely propane.

The flamethrowers all look homemade for instance the stock flamethrower is a propane tank, pipes and wires, a gas pump/maybe power washer pump (attached to the propane tank) and a blowtorch on the end of it, also it could possibly have some sort of gasifyer to turn the liquid gasoline into more of a gas because if the gasoline was a liquid it would have longer range

The back scratcher is based on what's referred to a dirt rake, rather than being meant to rake leaves, grass, dead debris and other light materials, a dirt rake is meant mainly for leveling areas of lose soil, it's also effective for raking out rocks from soil

I see a lot of stuff in pyro's flamethrowers, propane tanks, stove pits, fuel pump nozzles/handles, weed burners, such things, pyro seems quite creative

Two things: the stock is actually some sort of homemade creations, Gas pump and a propane canister underneath, the shrouding is actually supposed to be where the airblast comes from. but you are correct in saying that is closer to the grass burner. The degreaser and the Nostromo have a diffuser of sorts on the front. I’ve only seen them used in cooking, the diffuser pushes the flame in an even flow so that there are no high spots.
