As a former MD11 Avionics Ground Engineer this brings back a lot of memories. It was always my favorite KLM airplane back in the days. Really great to have it in the Sim in the near future.

You dont actually need to manually start the APU in the MD11 on the APU panel. If you hit the APU PWR button on the ELEC Panel it will turn on the APU for bleed air and power. Hitting it again will also shut down the APU. Its insane how automated this aircraft is.

Thanks! Its automation is pretty much almost down to Airbus level, in some cases even further. The MD-11 was really ahead of its time. Unfortunately it could not hold up with its promises and thus basically became a failure with airlines, yet it's always a pleasure to see one of these ladies flying.

@@A330Driver Airbus was actually involved in the MD-11 and fun fact, the wing was originally supposed to be the wing from the A330 but the CEO of MD pissed off Airbus and they pulled out. It was really one of the first multinational aircraft manufacturing experiment so MDs wing was a compromise, its too small as is the tail. Thats why the landing speeds are so high and it has the LSAS system to help with landing.

I'm super excited for when this plane comes out in a few months. My first payware plane for any flight sim was the TFDi 717, so seeing the MD11 cockpit brought back so many memories of learning how to fly.

I find the PFD and ND of this Aircraft lot more informative than any other. Flap and slats information, RA coming closer when coming closer to the ground, wind components are being show on the ND. Totally amazing! 🤯

Man, that interior looks absolutely fantastic! Some work and attention needed on the exterior, but the beta is a minimum of 60 days so plent yof time to get things buttoned up in that regard. I'm really looking forward to this one. The MD-11 is gonna be my Cross the Pond ride for many years to come

Have purchased the md-11, and am awaiting the release. With that said, the new a300-600 from inibuilds is really nice. Nearly flawless performance from my personal experience so far. Autopilot functions, nav functions etc are all working great.

Thanks for the MD-11 vids. Really thought we would see more online reviews once the initial release was made. There are a few out there from the first few days after release, but not much since. I broke down and bought the Pre-Order….even against my better judgement. Really hope they finish up all the details in the next month so its ready for release first of Jan

In my opinion it's definitely going to take longer until they reach a good state, probably at least half a year, more like a year or so. But I'm sure we're on track to get a good plane in like a certain time.

It seems to share many issues with the low quality Sky Simulations MD-11, like nose going up on touchdown, issues with reversers and plane being too sensitive to inputs. The exterior model still needs a lot of work as well. Overall it seems to be evolving nicely, but we seem to be quite far from release judging from what I have seen, good video :)

Visuals are surely much better already! Systems are still in early beta status as was expected prior to the release, but I'm sure they'll get there. TFDIs 717 was excellent some years back, I'm sure they can pull that off again!

I grew up in Milwaukee and still have family there, so I go back to visit every now and again. The General Mitchell airport has a really cool viewing area at the end of one of the runways, just off the street, where you can park right near the threshold and tune your radio to the ATC Ground channel. It was always a fun place to go as a kid, and even in my 30's when I'm back in town, I still stop by and hang out for a while in the mornings watching planes depart. I got to see an MD-11 climb out one day, and their departure angle always looks so steep as they just climb away from the earth.

The high pitch of the MD-11 surely plays a part in that impression, it's just an awesome aircraft to watch. I also saw many of them take off at my homebase right from the cockpit standing at the intersection, the MD-11's were among my favorite to watch. Only surpassed by the 747 and C17's that we also saw regularly at my homebase.

Does TFDI MD-11 have a KEYBOARD assignment page in the FMC like in PMDG aircraft? I would like to assign some common function to keyboard commands like AutoThrottle disconnect, AutoPilot disconnect, internal and external aircraft lighting, doors, etc...... I dun like to manually click on the overhead panel for taxi or landing lights usually....This is a gripe I have with the FSLabs A320s as they dun have this page to assign basic aircraft operations to a keyboard command....

I'm very interested in this. As it looks like the developer is trying to do this justice, unlike the other MD in the sim. Tri-jets have a special place in my heart due to their flaws, quirks and just their sheer size and iconic silhouette. If this turns into a good product, it'll be snapped up without hesitation.

Could you pls check what the trim and elevator is doing on your next landing? LSAS should derotate the nose, but maybe they've mixed up a +/- sign and the elevator/trim is moving the wrong direction.

I also had the view freeze whilst looking at Navigraph charts, so I assume it's something to do with that. 👍 I had quite a few little bugs and issues, but I managed to take off and land so that'll do for day one.

I don't think the exterior model is rushed. Seems that it's really just blocked out and they are focusing on systems first. Though I wonder, is their 3D modeller also a coder then?

Maybe that little lightning bolt on EGT is the indicator for the start valve. I also believe you left the APU bleed switch activated, hence why that particular button is telling you to use engine air.

No, thats indication of ignition. Start valve indication is the light on the start pull-button. When the button releases upon N2 >45%, and the light goes out, the start valve has closed.

I believe they're aiming for a similar level as their 717 was in P3D. Not exactly PMDG level, but most of the stuff needed for normal flight were there and reliable. Which is all I need in the sim really.

its weird that u can see the TAS and wind components on the ground , usually IRSs cant compute those on the ground, but yeah generally it seems to be still quite buggy in a lot of aspects etc and also the gpws callouts sounds like theyve been recorded in a closed room idk how to explain but in general its very promosing cuz all those bugs will be surely fixed for release !

The FSX, P3D version was 100% accommodated by Multi Crew Experience voice control. They will do the same with the MSFS version when released. It should be a good SIM, provided the systems work as in previous versions. Hope it's not just a port over?

TFDI has a history of releasing almost finished aircraft. If you are an infrequent pilot this is inconsequential as most will be on a journey of discovery. For our seasoned pilots we have PMDG.

I liked their 717 back in the day right from the start. I do agree though that the MD11 is a plane to experienced pilots, it can be quite tricky to fly.

54:41 overhead panel philosophy: "all dark, all right" like Airbus. If something occur, e.g galley panel off, you can cycle the manuel switch, otherwise see the QRH book, but here it's clearly a software problem not mature enough

It would be a little unfair to compare the first beta version of a plane with a long completed one, so I'll restrict my comparison to the visuals which are excellent in the TFDI. It shows a lot of potential, that much is for sure.

The PMDG 11 was at a high standard. Flight feeling, i.e. „heaviness“ and sounds were similar to the full motion simulator and real aircraft I flew in. Sounds of the TFDI in the video are awful. Hope that will improve during beta.

That's a question you can only answer yourself. If unsure I'd just wait until the final release is out and get it then. It's not like the price would be rising too drastically after release.

In my opinion, the md-11 wasn’t designed the best (not this addon TFDI made but the actual plane). Super high landing speeds and small vstab makes it super hard to land according to pilots I’ve heard who flew it.

It's a bit of an unfair comparison for now though, the rotate is on the market for a long time already while the TFDI is currently in a first beta. So if you make such comparison always keep that in mind.

We need to keep in mind this is the very first beta version given to Collectors Edition owners, it's nowhere near a complete product yet. Once it's officially released as version 1.0 I'll take a more critical look at the FMS and autoflight systems as well. Compared with other first betas I've flown over the past ten years though this can hold up with most of those others, so nothing I'd be worried about for now.

I'm confident they will. The 717 was superb, in a year or so I'm sure the MD-11 will be likewise.

@@A330DriverI agree it’s an interesting plane that I’m sure a lot of people will be happy to see and own. As you said too few Widebodied aircraft in msfs so this adds something unique and new. I’m not comment on price etc that’s for individuals to decide but it’s clearly very usable and featured already. It has a lot of potential for sure and I agree in time should become a great addon for the sim. Thx to the member for gifting this and to you showing first flight
