@Rdrunnersac that's because the most popular vehicles, in this case the Tacoma, need to bear the burden of making up for the less popular but necessary vehicles. This is what I've said on a few posts. Go look at Toyota's balance sheet. Their EBITDA % hasn't changed drastically in 15 years. That means pricing is simply keeping up with the changes in the market. If more people would understand how money and business works, they'd stop bitching about pricing as if it's the manufacturers to bear the total blame from.

It's inflation. I just got a Colorado ZR2. It was just under 55k. In 2019 money it would have been more like 46k. That is how less valuable the dollar is today than it was 5 years ago. That Tacoma Off Road likely would be high 30s and that Ranger Raptor would be under 50k if it was 2019. To give perspective, I had a 2019 Colorado Z71. 41k MSRP. I actually paid around 35k for it, but it would have been low 40s in today's money new after discounts, but more likely mid to high 40s these days new.

The new Tacoma TRD Pro is 50% more expensive than the outgoing version. Think about that for a second. This is corporations treating the general public like idiots, helped by reviewers who shrug their shoulders and just say stuff like 'everything is more expensive'. Inflation is only partially to blame. The rest is a term called "greedflation" where corporations see just how far they can push prices while crying crocodile tears.

I'm not a Ford guy, but this Raptor owns this segment now. With the locker, real tires, and especially the upgraded engine, it's more special than the TRD Pro for less money. I think the ZO2 is the ultimate bargain in this category, but the upgraded engine and trick rear suspension make this most likely worth the money over the ZR2.

@Jay-me7gw 28 күн бұрын
I agree. I also was pretty disappoint with the ZR2's motor when I test drove it. It was ok, but it wasn't amazing like the paper numbers might suggest. And we saw that confirmed here on TFLTruck where the 2.3L Ecoboost Ranger edged out the Andre's 2.7L HO Trailboss. The 3.0 Ecoboost should be completely dominant performance wise. Even the 2.7L Ranger will be a lot faster than anything else in the segment.

Any "off road" trim has a price premium. Hell, the cheapest you can find a new Gladiator Rubicon or Mojave (2024 model) according to autotrader is $50k (God knows if that's accurate or just a dealer throwing every possible discount you could possibly get at it that no consumer would ever actually qualify for). Meanwhile, a Gladiator Sport S with the max tow package (4.10 gears, Rubicon axles, big brake kit - basically a Rubicon without lockers and high clearance fender flares) can be had for $5,000 cheaper. Now, I'm sure the lockers in and of itself are worth $5k but 99% of people will never need that capability so they're paying for features they'll never use and paying for the convenience. Once the aftermarket catches up, you'll be able to buy a SR5 for way cheaper than a TRD Off Road, throw your own locker and shocks in and it'll be just as capable for way less.

Really need to compare the Raptor to the TRD Pro. $57k *is* a bargain. The standard Raptor already comes loaded--you don't have to pay an extra $15k to get both lockers, premium tires, comfortable heated leather-trimmed seats, and nicer infotainment. The Ranger Raptor is a premier desert runner that handles rock-crawling quite well and is exceptional in daily use and overlanding. And does it all as a mid-size while maintaining 1400+ pounds of payload and 5500 pounds of towing. I have to nit pick on TFL's nit picking though. TFL will harp on the truck because they need to engage the lockers of a pretty challenging Moab trail...while praising those lockers for instantaneous engagement and perfect performance. This from the same channel that pointlessly drag races everything--grocery getters and off-roaders alike.
