The next step in improving my shooting is to learn how to use flags to adjust for the wind. I would like nothing better than to have others add their knowledge and everyone can learn and we all become better shooters.
In this Video I use the Tikka t1x and SK Pistol Match Special and Lapua Center X to shoot 2 ARA Targets
This is the First video of maybe 4 in this series, please subscribe and click the bell to come along for the ride.

Great Vid, really helpful, am just learning benchrest myself, it is challenging and a humbling experience when things are not consistent after you think you have cracked it. You have a good attitude to the sport and it’s entertaining and informative to watch, thanks

I could not have put the experience in better words for sure. Humble is a great word to explain the experience and I remind myself each match is different than the others, this helps me shack off the not so good days.

I think your doing it right! I am new to benchrest shooting and i see 1 shot 1 target and judge where the flags are to the shot. Thanks for your video 😉👍

Shooting consistently accurately is a challenge for some will say the wind is not your friday and some will say the wind is your friday. I believe both are true but the type of wind make the determination if it is helping or hurting. Thanks for the comment.

Maybe if you have 1 longer tail in stead of 2 same size tails that may help you in wind speed????????

Wind is only "wind" relative to a stationary object on the ground. Like an airplane taking off, as soon as a bullet leaves the muzzle it is now a moving object flying within an air mass that is moving, or not across the ground. And weather it's a direct headwind, tailwind or crosswind makes no difference, it offers no additional drag or push on the bullet beyond the drag coefficient of the bullet moving through the air. The bullets AIRSPEED is still the same, what varies is its ground speed and ground track. People tend to think that because a 22 is small bullet the wind can blow it all around. That is not true. Once it is flying within the moving air mass the speed of the air mass has no effect on its flight thru it. What it DOES affect is its ground track and ground speed. 50 yards is a short distance for a bullet traveling at 1000 ft plus per second, and it's time of travel within the air mass is very short. So even a 10 mph wind will have very little effect on its point of impact. Now, what DOES have a much greater effect is how turbulent the air mass is. I have been an Airline Pilot for 34 years. I have flown in upper level "winds" that have exceeded 180 knots, 207 mph, many times and it be smooth as glass. I've also flown in 10 mile per hour winds and been knocked around so much I couldn't see my flight instrument clearly. Some of the most turbulent landings I've ever done have been landing in Las Vegas on a hot summer day in "calm winds" conditions. The culprit being thermals. Unless it's really blowing, say above a steady 10 mph wind, correcting for the wind is negligible. The far greater "danger" to your shot is when you see one or more flags doing something much different then the others. That is turbulence. So is seeing a mirage when you look thru your scope. That's telling you heat is rising which is also a shot killer. There isn't a shooter on earth that can compensate for turbulence. At 50 yards in winds, say below 10 mph, wait till all your flags are doing basically the same thing and you don't see any mirage. Then aim right at the dot and shoot. I have a LabRadar and I use it every time I shoot, be it practice or a match. That way when I do have a flier at least I can tell if it was because of an under or over charged round that messed up the shot. Very good video BTW. It actually illustrates a lot of what I just said.

Fred, Sorry it took so long to reply but I really wanted to reread your comment and digest it. I knew if I replied it would drop off my unreplied list and may never find it again. I have copied the comment to preserve it because there is so much detail I do truly want to go over it and I am sure all have some question because I am not 100% sure I am seeing the same results that you discribe. My biggest problem I have not figured out ow to determine wind speed. Thanks for your comment and I hope to get back to it shortly.

seems most shooters use 4 flags for 50yds, do you think 2 is sufficient? What spacing on flags did you use? Enjoy your vid. Thanks

I agree, two should do the trick, one at 20 yards and one at 40 yards. The 20 yard one maybe as close as 10 yards. I use 4 unless my daughter or friend shoot then I share. Two and Two

Why do you not shoot when the wind is calm? I would think that would be better. Does the wind make that much difference?
@AimSmallMissSmall_TV

Great question. During a match, I have 20 minutes to shoot 25 targets which is a ton of time but I feel in the location I am I do not get enough opportunities where there is no wind. So the big question, does wind make a difference and my answer is yes. I am still trying to figure wind out. Sometimes I feel it helps and sometimes I feel it is the effect is unpredictable. At this point I would not listen to my comments regarding the wind, except for me, shooting in the wind the results are unpredictable. I am either a ton of help with that or none at all. Sorry but I am still learning.

I have had good luck with all SK ammo and yes I would recommend the SK Pistol Match Special. I purchased a bunch of it and plan on shooting it in future matches. I have a match this weekend and will use Lapua Center X but the match I have the following weekend I'll probably try the SK Pistol Match Special. I'll try to update the comment after the match. I am hoping to shoot this Saturday night and Sunday morning. Make one of the matches I'll shoot the SK. Please feel free to check out my ammo testing with the Tikka T1x, I'll link to the summery video below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebOIlNpm38mZcXU.html

Oh, yes of course. Sorry when I replied I failed to look at the user name. You'll notice from the video the second target that I shot was with the SK Pistol Match Special. I had the plates from the 5 round groups for both the SK PMS and the Lapua Center X, I'll list them below. I have shot a total of 2 ARA target with the KS PMS and my scores were 2050 (as seen in the video) and 2250 (this may have been in light to no wind. SK Pistol Match Special (PMS) .52", .90", .54", .72", .84" and .84" not impressive I understand but this was in the wind. Avg. .72" Lapua Center X .68", .63", .61", .41", .60", .55" Avg. .58" I hope this helps.
