Reflections of Life

Reflections of Life

Күн бұрын

What if you only had a year to live?
Take a moment and seriously consider your answer to this question. What would you do? Maybe you’d spend your time close to home, appreciating time with loved ones. Or, maybe you’d pack your bags and travel the world. Maybe you’re interested in philanthropy and would dedicate that year to community service. Or maybe you’d spend most of your time alone, quietly reflecting on your life.
But the truth is, you can’t cram a lifetimes worth of experiences, achievements, challenges and friendships into one year. Life doesn’t work that way. But what you can do is make sure that you don’t take your time for granted, and that you consciously choose to pay attention to the things that are most important to you.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. When you open your eyes to the beauty that surrounds you, you not only learn how to live but find what to live for.

This may be my last year. I survived cancer one year ago, but my test last month came back abnormal, and I didn't get the message on time. Monday I go back to Onochology. I always feel satisfied and happy each day with my life though. ❤️ I think no matter what I spend time doing, it's worthy of my last day, or my last year. Taking a nap, sitting in the sun, chatting with my kids, traveling to Mexico... it's all good. 🙂

Oh how I reminisced my youth in this video. I was told at 25 by a 'psychic' that I would die at 74. I was always conscious of this, so filled each day henceforth to the brim with as much 'living of life to the full' as I could as if it were a race for time. I am now 74 (and a HALF) years old, retired and reclusive, but still enjoying each moment of quietude with my pups as if it WERE my last year on earth. Yes, spend time in nature whenever you feel overwhelmed and love everything about your unique self without shame or apology. Life's grand in all it's speckled glory. Enjoy it to the last drop.💕

Surprisingly, I had exactly the same idea a month ago. I wanted to do what I would do if I had a year to live. The first thing I did, was to come home to spend some time with my family, especially with my grandmother who has been isolated mostly for the past three years. I go and spend two hours a day with her, chatting and having a nice cake, and that was almost all I needed. I don't know how my journey will turn out but I just want to let things be for a while. A journey to find myself again.

Life is so precious, so short, so unpredictable...funnily I thought a lot like the man in the video. Living every day like it is one in your very last year seemed wise, but I noticed now that I am living with and caring for my ill husband who literally knows that his days are numbered, that on a certain level you also need to live like you would live forever. Otherwise you don't get on with projects anymore, that are dear to your heart, which may rather need half a year than just 2 weeks to be finished. We also need to trust that there is enough time for us to create, to risk the unfinished, to allow days on which everything just feels too heavy to enjoy life and to do anything at all. Such a complex balance being alive and honouring our essence with all its talents and shortcomings. Thank you for this video and the many others!

Beautifully said. To live in balance between living as if it’s your last day and living as if you’ll live forever. Perhaps different chapters of our lives call for us to live in different manners, and yet to maintain presence through each of them.

The paradise we create is always flawed. Being alone is better than being with a person who resents you, often because of their own flawed selves. Live every day as though it will be your last. Your films bring me so much peace, it's hard to put into words how I feel when I watch them. It seems that I always know before I click the play button I better sit down and get ready for something that's going to resonate with me and will be deeply profound. Your films not only make me think deeply but they invoke feelings deep within in me. This man has much wisdom at the age of 38. I just celebrated 65 years on this earthly plane and I'm so grateful that I live out in the country. It's not as peaceful as it once was because more and more city folks are seeking the country life, but they bring their noisy selves with them and don't fully understand the country way of life. I'm sad about losing my peaceful country life now, and sometimes I feel the need to move further out into the country today. But then I think... I'd have to give all this up, everything I worked and dreamed of my whole life up until now. So I sit and ponder... The word acceptance comes to the forefront of my mind. I still have my little safe space on my place where I can also retreat and retire to. This was a another masterpiece, thank you.

He got me crying on the first minute. This is the time, in my own life, where I am in Brazil and in pain (recovering from a surgery), while also being apart from my husband who is Ukrainian and can't leave his country to come be with me. So the question of "what would I do if this would be my last year?" leaves me in a loop having to choose between staying with my mom and waiting for war to be over, or actually returning to Ukraine to be with my husband. Well, I will try to do both things in the same 'year': when I get better, I will be with my husband, but for now, I heal and enjoy the moments I get to spend with my mom.

Be greatful that at least u hv mom. I hv no mom no husband Alone since 2005. I suppressed my whole life everything. Now it seems everything is coming out. Am automatically crying out of nowhere. Am clueless as to why am i crying. I feel a lump (non-phyical) in my throat area it becomes heavy even in sleep..wen i just open my eyes from sleep am crying suddenly. This is strange. After crying my throat heart area becomes so relaxed as if some 5kg weight is been removed. But after 2 or 3 hours or few minutes my throat again gets full and i cry. Do you know what it must be? When will it stop. Crying starts even when am out on road buying something or wen am selling something or busy watching some funny video. More I control crying more heavy load it becomes on my chest throat and my whole left side of the body.

The timing is amazing here. Because I live alone, I have to be proactive with my death process, have been for years. Last night I decided to video my own eulogy perhaps today and post it for a later date? I will tell my life story in a 15 minute or so video to help me with my process. No one will do it so I will do it myself. Just like everything... Despite all I have done and created, no one has shown up to share my energy, time and nature after five years here in the forest living a good life. Looking back all the way to my childhood I see that I have led a solo, isolated life, not really wanting that but its happened, I wonder why?. Yet there was 30 years of partnership and that was my happy time. But now I have been living alone for 6 years plus. Soon off goes the computer, and the communications, now out in the forest without human voices, leave you all behind. I'm tired of it all ready to take a nap. Oh well, not my problem anymore, humans are shyte I will tell the saints. Leave them to their misery. My camp will disappear which is sad because all the hard work will be wasted except for the joy I have had making it happen. I've really sat with my isolation for years now, in and out of difficult times, friends falling away. Another sad part is that people have been the clueless ones to want a simple life, living in the woods but they are stuck in their minds, very few people help each other and listen and just be. Most are takers, lost in the consumption values only out for their own interests. No big deal in the big picture, for I have sat with my grief and its liberating that things will change in the final days I will be kind with myself. Meditation, sitting, singing and moving on. thanks for the video.

Brilliant - grabbed me from the get-go. Jeremy expresses so well the feeling of being just a tiny speck in the cosmos, but at the same time being grateful to be part of it. At my age in my seventies I have even more reason to live each year/month/day as if it were my last. It doesn't necessarily mean I would change anything, but I do try to be aware of all that I have and the opportunities I am being given to enjoy the natural and human worlds, and in some way to contribute to the sum of "the good". I have had my crisis and had to change instead of clinging on to my old life - it's hard to go through but I'm glad it happened. Thank you again Green Renaissance for this chance to reflect and be glad.

Thank you for your kind words, we are so happy that you enjoy our work, Michael. People like him surround us all every day. But often we don't take the time to truly listen to each other, with open hearts and minds. We all have a story to share if we think about it. For quite some time now we interviewed people in South Africa but we do have videos that were made in Europe, on St. Helena, New Zealand, etc. Often you find details in the write up below the video. Warm hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚

I went through a divorce last year and it definitely gave me pain that I have never felt in my life. The fear of loss, what if and why all came in. The pain of inner trauma, attachment and depression all struck me hard. It forced me to heal, to love myself, to accept and to let go. I am grateful for that pain. Without it I would have never seen the true beauty of myself and what this life has to offer. Sitting with the pain and finding nature helped me not loose myself. So many times I wanted to give up but I knew if I just sat with the pain, understand where it comes from and release it, I knew that help me heal instead of going back to old triggers. I dedicated my Sundays to be in nature and continue to heal. It was very meditative for me, I found myself there. I am so happy for last year. I know if I died today I know that I had a beautiful year to finally be me. ❤ pain showed me who I am and how strong I really am.

You're very blessed to be able to live in a beautiful home around the woods. Not everyone is so blessed. Being out there is comfortable emotionally and physically and you have that. Attachment or 'clinging' causes pain. His marriage defined his life and when it ended he was distressed. Also, on earth, there's no such thing as a 'safe space'. A storm/earthquake/flood/fire could destroy anything we care to build. Accept that nothing is permanent or 'safe' and pain/anxiety melts away.🙏

Thank you, for sharing a precious life experience, the life of Jeremy. His vibrant health, and wisdom, respecting the pain and pleasure both, are so beautifully put in words. Once in my life I haddeep pain, and released a harness of "having to be strong always" I'm the oldest daughter in a family of 11. To my great surprise, I entered vulnerability without feeling weak, and it felt as if I was finally a human being among other human beings. On equal grounds. Accepting pain and pleasure too. A symbol appeared in my mind, of a cross, of which the horizontal part finally completed my "raison d'etre" on planet Earth. Like the gesture of spreading my arms wide, embracing my human existence. I am one of many human beings, no longer aiming for the flight taking me to great heights, you see? It's a relief to accept being alive in the place where I AM, and move from that base, while life itself resembles a river of change. PANTA RHEI. The camera-person following Jeremy does a very good job, showing this man's true colors, and those of his cute dog, and not to forget, the natural beauty of this man's safe haven. 👋🧙‍♀️ I'm so touched by it.🙏

Very few really "live" their life - we are so busy "doing" our life, that we completely miss living it. Reason why we have to look at our life frequently under the 'if you have only one year' microscope, else we lose touch with purpose and reality of our life. Most challenging of all is to make the necessary adjustments !

What a wise man, so beautiful what he said, especially in the end! I'm 52 and having survived cancer years ago, I ask myself the same question sometimes. I'm not afraid of death, to me it's just a different way to live without a body, and the most important thing for me is to cultivate love and my spiritual self, being compassionate and kind to all living beings and trying to leave some good deeds behind, as well as a clean environment around me. Life's too short to waste it with petty stuff that doesn't make us happy and in harmony with the universe 😊

I don't know, how long my life will be. Since August 2023,my husband and dog were killed in a car accident,no family or friends, only a neighbour. The police talled me at 1.30 a.m. and left me alone in shock not calling a Person to stay with me. I wrote my neighbour, are you not at sleep? He wasn't, I go to him. I talled him what happened and after that I stayed one hour, not speaking not crying. I go back home, powerless and fall asleep. The first months I would be happy,to stay only one year. I never were on fear about death only how it happened. Now I life every day, after day. Maybe if I get a new puppy it will help. Someone I'm responsible for.

Such a sad story you are sharing. This is not an easy situation. But you can bring meaning into your life again, bit by bit- a new puppy is certainly a wonderful idea. And you could give the dog a loving home. Also have a look at the local animal shelter(s) for a furry friend. Maybe this video can also be some help - ‘Through The Storm’ - (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qqhpa8-V07vHhHk.html). And here are two other ones regarding dogs, and there are more still - 'Human Kind' (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ra6ceZWc3NG6paM.html) and 'Dogs Teach Us To Love Unconditionally' (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er9yrbGqu86aaWw.html). This film was very interesting. It made me ask myself the question, "if I knew with a definite certainty that I am going to die within one year, how would I live differently?" I thought about it. If I had enough money to support myself for a year, I would have quit my job. I would have gone to my childhood place and lived there in the good weather. I would eat and drink whatever I wanted to and I would do whatever I wanted to. I would not delay. I would not plan for the "future". If I knew, 100% , that this was it, I would live spontaneously. It is something that I should be doing anyway and new opportunities and gifts will come, but right now, I am not that brave. By the way, there is a movie about it, in the USA, called "Last Holiday" with Queen Latifah. Enjoy! A comment about pain. I believe that emotional pain is "purposeful" because it pushes me to grow. But, I do not subscribe to physical pain because it blocks me from living my life fully. So, I work on removing that from my life. Thank you.

So glad this video spoke to you. Interesting to read what you would do if it would be your last year, and your thoughts about physical and emotional pain. Something to ponder on. Warm hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚
