If you end up being allergic to the tree you could put it on your back porch w/outdoor lights so you can still enjoy it w/o putting yourself at risk :)

One of my father's last wishes was for me to come over and fix pot roast and have people over for dinner. He had esophageal cancer and had a direct feeding tube in his stomach. He missed the smell and camaraderie and smells of having a meal with people. He was able to take small tastes (without swallowing) and we ground some pot roast for him so he had a warm bellyful. I truly understand the need to have family meals.

for your Christmas tree dilemma, my mom had a Norfolk Pine for a few years. It is a little potted tree that you can keep from year to year. It can be decorated with little lights and ornaments for different seasons, not just Christmas. I remember hearts one year for Valentines.

My dad has awful asthma and he can’t have a real tree. I’m also allergic to pine if I get the pollen or the needles prick me. We had a coloured tinsel fake tree and we used the air hose on his nebuliser to blow the dust off before we vacuumed. XD I’ve also had issues with holidays forever because of peanut allergies and lactose intolerance. Once there was only lettuce I could have at a relatives place. Now that I’m doing low fodmap there is less. This year I just stayed home and made my own stuff. I’m glad I can eat some things though. I made my sweet potato casserole with oats instead of flour so it would be gluten free.

For my family, we had a really delightful Thanksgiving. Better than last year, for sure. My mother passed away in October 2016 and her absence at Thanksgiving was still felt, it wasn't as as painful this year.

Cute to see your Dad playing with the dog. Oakley looks good. Really glad Oakley can do minor service work for you Dad, that is sweet and glad he was well trained. Glad you can work and enjoy just being with your loved ones, it is best not to push when not well, better to be just happy and the great focus you have. Your connections is the greatest blessing, after all love is the only thing that really matters and can be share and passed on. Peace, prayers and blessings!

You have a wonderful perspective on thanksgiving! I feel like too often the food becomes more important than the meaning of thanksgiving (being thankful for what you have & helping others). Personally I've always hated thanksgiving partially because of the food but also because people eat so much that they're tired & so the time after the meal isn't "quality". Don't get me wrong, I love my family! I just struggle with the fact that thanksgiving often seems to be centered around the food & not the people. I could go on but I think I made my point. Thank you Jaquie for sharing your perspective with us!

I have a LONG list of food allergies. I have MCAD so it is expected. When I was younger I hated thanksgiving and christmas because I got to sit at the table and could not eat a thing there. So I had to help my mom prep food I could not eat, sit through a meal where I could not eat anything, and if I was lucky after that I would get a fast food burger. So sometimes I didn't get breakfast, lunch or dinner. Now I make a ton of food I can eat and bring it with me. So now it is not torture.

I don’t have (diagnosed) gp but am also unable to eat much without getting very sick so all I had for thanksgiving dinner was half a piece of turkey. Wish I was able to do more but oh well. Just do what I can. Also, thanks to you I found Kate Farms oral formula and am now in the process of getting it prescribed to me! I’ve lost 45lbs in the past few months due to undiagnosed GI issues and need nutrition but can’t eat much and ensures just don’t have enough calories for me.

Happy holidays! We suspect I have GP now, due to meds. I am making an appointment with my gastro about it. I have several symptoms that point to it, but I want an official fishnosis. My Neuro put me on raglan a couple weeks ago due to my symptoms of nausea and vomiting. While I wait to get into my gastro, do you know of a good website with suggested diet for GP? Thanks!

Hi Jaquie I had a quick question. I've had stomach problems for years but it's been especially bad since I turned 18 (I'm 21 now) and I've had so many tests with no answers. Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, CT scans, X Rays, Blood work, Stool sample and allergy testing etc. Most recently I had a gastric emptying study which came back normal but it almost felt like they caught me on a good day? Is that possible? My worst symptoms are that I'm nauseous and gaggy practically every day. I feel and look bloated most days after small-normal sized meals. I have some good days but there are a LOT more bad days than good and all these doctors shrug everything off as just being anxiety related when I genuinely don't feel like that's all that is going on. They've got me believing I'm crazy some days. It's ruined my life to the point where I hardly leave the house because all I feel like I can do is lay in bed. Did it take you awhile to be believed? Sorry for writing a wall of text but if you read this, thanks for taking the time.
@allie4680
@allie4680 6 жыл бұрын
I’ve had th same issue but I was recently diagnosed with EDS and th geneticist said my stomach pain was probably due to issues with bowel motility even though my gastric emptying study came back okay. I’ve heard that they can catch you on a good day with gastric emptying studies, too. I would def talk to ur doctor about maybe getting a repeat.
@pepper8671

Maybe I should. It's so hard to get them to listen when you also have an anxiety diagnosis.

I can only imagine!! Finding a dr who wants to listen to u and help u is very difficult, but I know of people who hav negative gastric emptying studies and then positive ones soon after so I don’t think it’s all too crazy to request another. Best of luck to you ❤️

Chronically Jaquie, I had this super weird dream last night that you came to my house... I live I'm Utah and for some reason I guess you came to see me compete in the Triwizard Tournament (Harry Potter geek here). And then I asked to pet Harlow but she was scared of me. So I had to go down into a submarine and cook Judd a quesadilla but we were out of tortillas! So I cooked him a grilled cheese instead but it fell apart... so I asked for your help but you were down in my room and I know how hard it is for you to get up stairs so I was trying to be patient but Judd had to eat before he went to work. (In my dream he was a teacher at my school.) Then all of a sudden you just ran up the stairs and Harlow started nose bumping you so I got you over to the rocking chair (I don't have a rocking chair) but you got mad cause you're super independent. Then I had to go find the Triwizard cup in the middle of the maze but I couldn't get past the vampires without being an elf so I asked Judd of I could borrow some shrinking potion and he said yes. So I ran the maze but I tied with Cedric and I didn't even want to be in the tournament so I gave him the cup but instead of being wood it was chocolate. I then had to go back and shower but I didn't want to use the school showers so Draco Malfoy invited me to his house to use his showers but I didn't want to see Lucious. Instead, I ran home and you were getting ready to leave but I still had to run the maze again so I asked you to stay and you said yes as long as Harlow said it was ok! Harlow said yes and I completed the maze 4 more times before finally ending up at my locker that I couldn't reach. I tried getting to it but I couldn't and Judd was waiting for me so he could take me home before driving back to Tampa. However, I had lost my markers so we had to go down to the music room so I could find them. I found them but Judd had already gone back to the submarine and was looking for his sandwich. Luckily my mom had fixed it and everybody was happy. It was a weird dream... (feel free to share it with anybody)

I am technically triggered by Christmas trees - not sure how often this occurs, but it developed in my early 20s. Now, close to 40, going to the grocery store at Christmas triggers me due to the trees and wreaths. I do not really know any chronic moderate asthmatics that are as atopic as I am, but since you love the tree, hopefully you do not develop this reaction. #goodtimes #asthmalife #ikidyounot

I do have a question... did you see a counselor to get to your place of understanding/ acceptance on how to handle social situations? how did you not get depressed? I struggle with this.

I do not, I did do OT to help with some aspects of my autism I struggled with and I would like to go back. But I do not personally struggle with depression. I do not know why some people do and some do not, it is kind of a mystery. Even with my struggles I do live a happy life (:

I’m curious about this also.:I have multiple chronic (with the very real possibility of becoming terminal) illnesses and struggle with this. Jaquie and Mary Frey have definitely helped me some to look at my thinking and have a different perspective. So thank you for that Jaquie :-)

Kind of a suprise given 75% of people on the autism spectrum experience MH struggles and the majority of those with chronic or long term health conditions struggle too. Fatigue can be very related to anxiety and sensory overload.

Hey Jen, struggling with depression and Chronic Illness is really tough, I am sorry to hear you are going through tough times, and thought I might weigh in, if that is okay? The mystery of why some are depressed and others are not is not really a mystery at all- situation and biology is usually the cause. Jaqui, for all of her illnesses will likely never get depressed because she has exactly what she wants and needs whenever she requires it, albeit occasionally having to side step for medical care, but even then she is getting CARE, and interaction. Because of this scenario- not really having to stress about things not being consistently available etc (and going back over blogs, I feel like this is a fair statement. Any issue is quickly resolved. Its not a judgement, its just the facts the blogs present), having consistent love and care from family, fans, and medical team, it means that the level of mental stress Jaqui would be under would likely be quite low, and this would mean if she is not predispostioned biologically for depression (I.e. a body's ability to uptake, produce, maintain particular hormones) the chances of her becoming depressed are low as there is no real trigger. She lives a very easy life aside from some health complications meaning her ability to handle them is not compromised. I would not compare yourself to Jaqui in this respect. Not everyone with illnesses are as lucky. If you are under considerable stress due to your illnesses, plus everyday life compounding stresses, it is understandable that you would become stressed out by social situations. I have high functioning autism, stomach paralysis, heart issues, and scoliosis- so similar diagnosis to jacqui, but incredibly different lifestyle, and major depressive disorder. I don't have the instantaneous support, and also I look like I've been run over by a truck, so public scenarios are a nightmare. But, I found the best way to tackle it was to get external support from a Psych to help put things in perspective and allow me to sort through the panic in my brain and see what was Actionable (I.e. something I can change in the next 5 minutes) and what was Acceptable (I.e. something that is how it is, and if I accept it now, I can start to change my behaviour to accomodate it and move on to achieve my goals), and what was Achievable (I.e. what can I realistically achieve in the next 5 minutes given what I can't change and what I can) It sounds pretty silly, but it really helped me! Like, Sure I can't change that I can't filter out the conversations, but if I let the person I am talking to know I am having trouble understanding them, and asking if we can move to somewhere a little quieter to have the conversation I find more people are actually super accomodating! And I start to feel better as opposed to stewing on it all night and going home in tears-- this has happened far to many times to count. Having that little bit of support changed my life- and if you are being a brave and strong person considering getting help from a psych or counsellor, I am proud of you! All the power to you! You rock! Even without illnesses, it is normal to become stressed and depressed due to social interaction. There are a range of different therapy options available- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, DBT, Schema, EMDR (if it is trauma based), different things will work for different root causes. The first step would be to see a counsellor or psych to have a quick chat about what it feels like in a social situation, and if there is any cause you know of, I.e. "I am anxious in social situations because it is overwhelmingly loud and I can't understand what people are saying, this causes me stress because I am worried I'll miss important information and make a fool of myself". Once you can start to identify what is causing stresses and worries, and with support (support is the big key for depression, don't do it alone!) hopefully it will start to curb the stress and help bring you up from feeling depressed. I think the hardest part about social anxiety is the fact it can isolate you from others, and we are not made to be alone! People need people. Depression isn't some magical thing some get and others don't, it comes from two very different places, and can be compounded by so many factors, and the more support you have the better you will feel, I hope that support is accessible to you. Have a lovely day and all the best to you.
