** Alrighty, so the auger is finally ready to head down the road to our dealer who is going to do some warranty work on the flighting that broke in the auger. The move there went well... Its the move back that ended very badly... 😥😠
** On move back Mike was driving at full speed (34mph) into a 30-50km wind and a semi truck went by at full speed (100km) throwing up a rock into Mike's windshield, completely blowing it out and spraying glass into Mike at high speed.
** Mike had glass in his knuckles, hands, and bottom of his feet.. The glass went down is back even! He was very fortunate to have glasses on or this could be a very sad story..
** Moral of this story is, that front windshield of every tractor (regardless of colour, shape or size) needs to be fully laminated to prevent further injury of the driver of the equipment, this needs to be an industry standard!

@datbomb98
@datbomb98 3 жыл бұрын
Actually tempered glass is commonly referred to as safety glass... the problem with making them out of laminated glass is you can't really make major curves in laminated glass like the top of the fendt windshield.. now as to why manufacturers don't use laminated glass isn pretty simple in agriculture its really easy to crack the plate glass and tampered glass is harder to bust unless you hit it on the edge... I installed glass for a few years my neighbor owns a glass company

Yeah lol, remember those things. My dad here in the Netherlands had one open Renault tractor on which you could put a crappy tube roof with some vinyl on top. A small plastic windscreen with 2 hinged plastic side windows. When it got really cold you could strap some extra tent stuff on it for doors with rubber bands to strap it on the tubing so at least only your back would be cold. I remember almost hugging the gearbox between your feet to stay warm.... But then again ... roofless in summer drying the grass burning into a red lobster ...

Mike, One time my brother broke the left door (all glass) of the same tractor twice in one week. My grandma joked that we better order a six pack of left doors for that tractor.

Our 3pt on a 150 hp tractor can barely lift one tire on our auger to change a tire. Couldnt believe a 3 ton jack didn't budge it.

Speaking from experience, it scares the shit out of ya when it happens. Sounds like a gunshot and next thing ya know, you’re covered in glass. Really isn’t time to get pissed about it. Lol
