Yeah stopping a first turn Sol Ring is not a bad move at all. Realistically that would have shut him down or at least forced him to play on curve.

So true, when I first got into blue I was countering everything. Then as you mature as a blue player, you learn what is worth it and what is not worth. I mostly like counterspells that protect my commander as I play Niv Mizzet Parun. But I’ll counter like a necropotence, smothering tithe, stax piece, etc.

MTG sense is a bit off with this one. He played a land on his turn, cast 5 counterspells on Adam's turn exiling 2 cards.

First player draws in EDH, so they would have had 7 cards in hand after playing Island Misstep Pierce FoN Mana Drain FoW Archmage's Charm Mindbreak Trap

Even us yugioh players don't get that many negates anymore. The best we got is kashtira that is basically the magic equivalent of stopping your opponent from using lands period.

Even that's debateable. Countering sol ring or crypt means that you're down a card in order for 1 oponent to be down a card. You're basically just helping the other two. Counters in EDH should do one of two things. You ether stop someone who's about to win or lock you out of the game or you're protecting your own win. In this scenario, even if the 3rd player wasn't going off, how silly do you feel when player 3 and 4 just deploy multiple rocks after you wasted cards to stop player 2? Trading 1 for 1 in edh means you're falling behind. The way you counter rocks is by turning them all off or destroying them all. Meltdown and stony silence and similar effects are what you're looking for
