I went to Bobby Knight's camp in 1991. He is exactly what you would expect, shouting, and cussing. And he would leave after opening remarks every day, and at the end of the day before dinner he would talk to us again and act as if he was there all day and tell us he saw good things...

Dakich was a backup who slowly got more time as his career at Indiana progressed and a had an okay-for-a-bench-player senior season, with good shooting.........5.3 pts a game, 53% from the field, 73% from the line, 2.7 assists, 2 rebounds.

It wasn't abuse. Knight was showing a technique. It was practice. Dakich, probably unknowingly, interfered with that.

Why not ask Dakich about the time Knight allegedly entered Gary Andrean's locker room when he was a senior? ... I grew up in the area and this story is legendary in these parts ... Knight and an asst were speaking with Dakich and his coach after the game when all of a sudden right there out of the blue Knight popped him! ... cold-cocked right in the face ... Knight supposedly then said he wanted him to come to IU ... legend also has it that Dakich was the one player who would go after Knight and retaliate whenever Knight touched him ...

I WONDER WHY THE GREAT LARRY BIRD LEFT!!!??
@NeverDauntedRadioNetwork3 жыл бұрын
Larry Bird left because he was incessantly bullied by Kent Benson. Benson drilled into Bird about being homesick and Knight never stood up for Bird, because Benson was his guy. Bird had enough and he transferred.
@utopian3d3 жыл бұрын
Bird transferred before practice started and has said that he and knight would have had no problems.
@NeverDauntedRadioNetwork3 жыл бұрын
@@utopian3d Bird's problem wasn't directly with Knight. His problem was with Kent Benson, who mercilessly bullied him. Now back then, Benson was the cock of the walk, so to speak, and Coach Knight knew what he had in Benson, and Bird was just another freshman. Coach Knight didn't really protect Bird, and so coupled with homesickness, he just chose to go to Indiana State because better to be treated like a star than a pleb.
@utopian3d3 жыл бұрын
@@NeverDauntedRadioNetworkthat’s probably not wrong but Bird of all people probably would have taken the BS, and probably dished out quite a bit, if there weren’t other factors involved. I think people hate Knight so much they just make every conceivable situation about him on some level.
