For this video, we return to one of my absolute favorite products to mess around with on cars- Plastidip! My first how to use Plastidip video came out years ago, and it was time for an update! The new classic muscle colors are pretty awesome compared to the traditional black. Thanks for watching and more below!

Dont Assume My Gender!!! Sorry to derail your hate train, but ask yourself a couple questions.. Did he say he bought the PD from DipYour Car in the video? Did he give out or promote our website? Did he even mention our company once? Remember DipYourCar doesn't make/own Plasti Dip, we are a distributor. There are hundreds of distributors of Plasti Dip, so a generic video about using dip does not directly benefit DipYourCar. If we were to sponsor or pay for a video, don't you think we'd want our company/products/website mentioned in that video? If you knew anything about DYC as a company, you'd know we are as upfront and honest as it gets. I know it's fun to hate on companies online, but you're off base on this one. Take care and have a great day.

I did the hood, convertible and splitter trims, and trunk of a newline mustang GT in 2017, and it is still on there today. It looked great but started to flake and peel a little bit in 2022. Also is worth noting if you live in a hot place and park in the sun, it does not come off in one piece at all after baking on for years, and requires more effort to remove than this video, but still not too bad..

Patience is key with plasti. My wheels came out hella well because of the time that went into them. They're about 6 layers thick each wheel. Havent scratched. Doesnt come off with my pressure washer. I always recommend plasti, especially for those who are very concerned about permanently painting a part. It peels literally right off if you have enough layers applied.
@zatilla

Would you still recommend it now? 5 years later

If you use the DYC tips for the spray can you get way better coverage as they allow more material and a wider spray pattern to be sprayed so it doesn't give you that dry look. Just like spray paint, due to the lack a material being sprayed you get streaks and dull spots even when overlapping your passes. In my opinion it is because the surface isn't staying wet enough to allow the over spray from the remaining passes to blend in. It's a fine line between not enough and too much. Definitely a fun product though.

I dipped my wheels and chrome grill 2 YEARS AGO and the wheels still look good! Very smooooth finish. Grill is starting to get pinholes from bugs. Its also been thru car washes (no touch and power washer) I have 5 or 6 coats. Coats are the key. Did the roof of a car with cans, it came out not so good compared to a vertical surface

I've found that the only way to get the smoothest surface finish with plastidip is to over-do it with the coats... Spray lots and lots on there until it's wet, then when it dries it will be as smooth as possible. Otherwise it's going to be rough.

Dipyourcar.com pays people to make their products look good because its shit. There is a reason its cheap. Ive used it before, perfectly as instructed, the colors are not what advertised and it comes off by its self after a bit.

you can see how shitty it is, when he was peeling off the tape from the box, the plastidip came off too lmao. Dont use plastidip.

the whole video was him getting bad results despite doing it right, because plasti dip is shit. Then he made excuses of why it came out shit because dipyourcar paid him to make this video.

The blurple colour they make is nice. Sprays blue and for the first 5-6 months I'd say it looks blue on direct light and purple anytime else.

How many cans do you need to dip an entire car? Also, how long will it last?
@ThatDudeinBlue
@ThatDudeinBlue 7 жыл бұрын
It would take WAY too many. My recommendation- use gallons and a gun. I will do that sometime in the future!
@arrowhead1867
@arrowhead1867 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was thinking it's probably way more cost effective to use the gallons haha. If I apply it perfectly, cans or buckets, how long will it last, and when will I know when to remove it?

Yeah and doing a single fender significantly decreases surface area and makes it look much better than if you did the whole car
@cschultz1711
@cschultz1711 7 жыл бұрын
I'm aware. but when only doing a single fender as opposed to the whole car, they reduce surface area which makes it harder to spot/make mistakes.

nope, speaking from experience "bro"; plasti-dip is an awesome product, but using cans for the whole car and expecting a good finish is naive. They sell entire kits that include electric compressor powered guns and they make a huge difference for a large surface area. The aerosol cans are meant for small areas and even professional "dippers" will tell you that.

The best plastidip tip I've heard was from milanmastracci - let your cans sit in a hot water bath before using them so the plastidip sprays evenly.

I always get the best results when I spray close and wet. I also do a full sweep from end to end without stopping in between the panel.

That's a pretty nice s14. And plus you dipping or wrapping is the way to go if you are trying to preserve the paint on your car for a later date if you want to sell it and have the original paint on it still because I wrap my car and when I went to sell it I took the wrap off and the paint still look great and all I did was pill the wrap off give it a nice wax and buff and I look brand-new.

Check the wind direction. For anyone who's new at this and is DIYing it, I'd cover >3/4 of the car just do do 1/4 of the car... the overspray in the open like that is really bad if there's any kind of wind. You need a little distance between the nozzle and the surface to get a good spray pattern, but particles will be picked up by the wind at that distance.

Ok here are some pointers. 1. Clean the panel well like alcohol rub down well. 2. More layers (6 or better) the more durable it is and easier to peel. 3. You have overspray in this video like crazy , use a rag and lacquer thinner or acetone to remove over spray 4. Check out Dip Your Car on KZfaq and their site because doing it by cans is a hassle and way expensive useless your just doing wheels or emblems grills etc.

We had a 2006 Ford F-150 and the person who owned it before us plastidipped the bottom of both doors all the way to the back of the truck and when we peeled it away it took about an hour to do one side and it would only come off by little pieces and we finally brought out the hairdryer and heated the side of the plastidip and it came of like butter
