The Civic Type R is one incredible machine. With great handling, crazy looks, and a quick spooling turbo - it's the full package for most people. However I always felt something was always missing with this car when it comes to it's Honda heritage. So what can fix the sights and sounds of this car's driving experience? So...what are the bolt ons??? I feel like your'e missing out on a lot of good content by not talking more about what's actually done to the car. You mentioned it's wrapped, has an aftermarket blow off valve, exhaust, and rolling anti-lag. That's it? That's full bolt-ons? Just watching you sit there and drive and wax poetic about the driving experience is getting old. Just my 2 cents / constructive criticism.

@@unfairsanic5089 not really. A stock IS350 makes the same power stock as this car does stock. Also weighs a lot more as it’s a luxury sports sedan. Also, for what it’s worth, whether or not the IS350 is on coilovers doesn’t affect how it does in a race anyway lol.

@@zachardiman6473 it does because it will turn hard on corners that will be even matched up against a civic type r and alot of video shows that is350 is faster at 0-60 pull against a civic type r especially if you race it against a track so weight is not a problem lolz 🤦

as a bike guy, didn't expect you, a primarily car guy who i had no idea even knew what a Ducati was, to know that was a Ducati flying past at 100 plus. I'm impressed lol. and that sweet sweet Ducati sound 🤤

@@Jay-yg8jj sounded like my Monster 796 when I had titanium straight pipes on it. I'm not positive since we didn't see the bike but it sounded like a Ducati V-Twin and not a V4.

The Civic Type R has so much of tuning potential The aftermarket scene had so much of fun with this car glad that Honda finally brought it to America

In what way? The motor is pretty limited in all honesty with its direct injection and limited head. In terms of the chassis, yes.. But the older K's are def superior in terms of tuning potential for power. In order to really test that block and head, it would need to be ported, and switched to port-injection. Direct Injection gets real dicey at higher HP as well when it comes to tuning. You better have a tuner who knows what they are doing if you try to push real HP out of that motor stock.

@@CJax749 older k's can run 500-600 without blinking an eye.. the K20c1 cannot.. if u want, I can provide an in-depth article as to why.. the c1's direct injection system and smaller head ports limit the stock motor and make tuning at 400+ very tricky. And in order to get big power out of them, 4piston is ditching the DI , porting the head with port injection (essentially making it an old K model).

I actually love the look of the Type R....I love the flash and in your face look. Thats what a Type R is all about. People need to get a Camry and put a V8 engine in there if they dont want to car to make a statement.

It has prl intercooler catless downpipe charge pipe intake blowoff valve injectors lowering springs and a good bit of cosmetics. Sadly my boi Tristan bent crankshaft so now he’s going built short block with forged internals and a bigger turbo

i sold mine after it went back for the 7th recall in AUS, what is most surprising is the same issues other had that were covered by my warranty were not covered by fellow Type R owners in USA, people say mods fix some of these issues which they do but i had a 2019 model and wanted to keep car stock until warranty expired or at least "full warranty" expired as dealer mentioned that any performance mods would void the "full warranty"but not the "basic warranty" but i think the glass lifting up from the rear window was the last straw for me.

I can agree to some extent; but if you want a car that drives like a veloster N and looks like one of those audis or bmws, why'd you get a honda? This car was meant for sedate performance and a composed ride But these are just my 2 cents

I only spent 150$ for a muffler and mid resonator delete and it honestly sounds like a full catback. Barley any drone and sounds amazing when you rip it on streets. Would definitely recommend to anyone that doesn’t wanna spend 1k+ on a full catback

@@terrabnadia1793 are you dumb 10 years old? Not every car needs to have 500+ hp to be fun. For a FWD car like MINI 300ish hp is pretty much the usable limit anyway. Many of the cars reviewed on this chanel have that much or less HP.

I test drove a decent amount of vehicles while searching for a fun car around 25k(ended up being closer to 28k for most of the cars by the time I decided). The GTI in manual and auto, the audi a3, the WRX in manual, and the veloster n. I was set on getting a GTI until I drove the veloster n. The veloster n is just an experience and it's so fun to drive. I then found a type r that I could go test drive that had full bolt ons and a tune and I'll be honest I didn't enjoy it as much as the veloster n. Then the dealership took it back to factory and I got to test it again. I loved it a lot more without bolt ons. However maybe it just wasn't done properly. I ended up getting a used 2018 type r over the veloster n simply due to resale value. I didn't plan on keeping the car forever and plan on upgrading after a while so I wanted good resale value. The type r has been a pure blast to own. The WRX to me was the most disappointing of the bunch. I had a manual 2014 subaru impreza that I did full bolt ons and a tune to so I just expected to be most familiar and comfortable with the WRX. Overall the audi a3 just felt like a far better vehicle compared to the WRX and used with very low miles it was the same price as the new WRX locally. I still think about the veloster n to this day but honestly with the cost now being 32k vs 38k for the type r I just think if you're any kind of concerned about the resale value the type r is the clear winner. I wanted a car that was not only fun but handled amazingly. Not just decent straight line speed but decent speed while maneuvering. The brakes on the type r are also amazing even if they make a good amount of noise at low speeds.

If the Type R was a two door with proper stock coilover setup in the rear like the 90s Honda's then it would be a true Type R.

Nah. At the end of the day it needs to sell. And with 4 doors and a hatch it was a success in its introduction to the North American market.

This isn't the Type R Honda enthusiasts wanted. We wanted a high compression Na V-tec 2 door with double wishbone suspension hatch that doesn't look like something a 12 yr old designed. Modern version of the ek or ep type r is what we wanted. 4 doors suck, not sorry.

Okay, this is making me regret buying my Si two weeks ago. I couldn’t find a Type R anywhere near me, so I settled for my [fourth now!] Civic Si. I did get it below invoice, because I almost left when there were no Type R cars to be found. I do absolutely LOVE my Si, though.

MY R has the AWE Touring Exhaust, PRL HVI intake, PRL Catted downpipe, PRL Coated titanium inlet pipe, 27Won Boost Tubes, Greddy Intercooler, Koyo Rad, Acuity shifter and a custom Hondata tune. The difference between this and stock isn't even comparable. One thing people don't realize on this car is any bolt on's without a tune is absolutely useless and could be a negative. The Bosch ECU is so smart it recalibrates everything back to stock no matter what part you add. For example the PRL drop in filter and stock airbox give the most significant gains over any Intake besides the Aventuri which is like $1400 and most people don't have. The stock airbox keeps heatsoak away better than all but 1 aftermarket intake. Pretty much get a tune for the car. It makes a huge difference. Off the shelf go with John Vega's Phearable stage 2 tune. It's 60 to 80 HP depending on Bolt on's.

The type-R was a bit too wild for my taste in the looks department. But that wrap tones it down some and does it some justice.

I really like the type R but I think I would never love it as much as I love my Veloster N in factory form it's just that good. The type R is faster from factory but it has no sound, and the Veloster N exhausted is just so freaking good.

How is the stock version better than a tuned full bolt on version this has aftermarket wheels and minor cosmetics plus a wrap I’ve driven this exact car at every stage if it’s build and it’s progression is mind blowing

Wish you could drive my hot hatch. Lil Mini Cooper running about 220 hp with bolt ons and a tune. Doesn't have the anti lag but it certainly does turn heads of all the muscle cars of the south.

I love mine with E85, but the stock fuel system is weak as hell. It's about 3 grand to upgrade it alone. also, anti lag is terrible for these turbos and components unless you build the engine

Id go with a different bov.. maybe one a little less fast and furious... but thats me. The wheels and wrap look pretty good.

What about the 08-14 STi hatch? I’m looking at getting one but everyone around me wants $25k-$30 for them... it’s stick, city driven, and has 200km plus on the car. I won’t pay that much so I’m being patient. Is buy one of the new hot hatch cars better?

I gotta say I do not like 20" wheels from a pure dynamics POV but, unfortunately that how the engineers at Honda designed the suspension geometry to utilize a 20" wheel and undoing that is a real challenge. Unless you know someone that works for Honda's engineering department or understand suspension geometry from an engineering perspective I wouldn't suggest putting smaller wheels and tires on an FK8.

You need to start with a two-door Civic SI. Then turn the SI into a Type R. The four-door hatchback is all right but not all of them.
