Top 10 Final Fantasy Games? With each of these JRPG games so unique, it's hard for me to pick my best Final Fantasy games.
Subscribe: bit.ly/SubscribeThatOneVideoGamer
Before we start off this, again I'd like to say that this list is my opinion and not an official world ranking. Having fun, playing games, and putting my two-cents on it is what I do. Anyways, this list does not include any spin off titles or MMO's. From Final Fantasy VIII to Final Fantasy III DS edition, lots of roman numerals to go through on the biggest JRPG series of all time.
Now these are MY Top 10 Final Fantasy Games, I'd love to hear what your's are.

I think its a case of the meme overtaking the context: more people have seen the scene by itself without context than people who have played the game and gotten to that point in the story, and thats why it has become the butt of jokes despite it actually making sense: most people dont even KNOW it was supposed to be awkward by design.

Wut? they kinda say it in their dialogue. How can you not get it? Is that why so many hate it? wtf? I just thought the laugh itself sounded weird and awkward. But I understood the scene, so I didn't care so much about it. I mean FFX was the first FF with voice acting, so it was the first FF where things started getting a bit awkward from time to time. But that's Japan for you I guess? KIngdom hearts is also like that, but it's not a big deal.

As of now, I've only played 7 and 8, but I'd ADORE getting to FF10, especially considering how cheap it is. A website I go to is selling both X and X-2 for around $13, so I've gotta pick it up soon!

@@niche8137 In 6 you'll see all the things that eventually became 7. 10 is arguably better than 7, and I say this as a long and accomplished 7 player. 10 is much like 7 but more urgency and desperation in the story and characters. Best soundtrack by far as well. No questions asked pick up the PS4 version.

I just find it funny that for a top 10 list, he excluded all spin-offs, side-games and MMO versions of Final Fantasy. You realize that only leaves 12 titles left right? That means he only left 2 out of all possible choices off this list. I'm not complaining, I just find it funny. He should of cut it down to top 5 to give them more meaning in my opinion.
@TenMoogles
@TenMoogles 6 жыл бұрын
Grassy Bear Well no shit it would be the same list. But with the way he set up the parameters for which games he included for nomination, it leaves literally only 2 titles off the list. I just think it was bad wording to make it a "Top 10" rather than a "best to worst" list and then he could of included the last 2 titles. Yes the list would be the same if there are only 5, but when you tell everyone they're special, are any of then really special? That's my point about making a top 10 with only 12 options to choose from.

If you make a top 10 list, and there's only 10 options to even choose from, is it really a top 10? No. It becomes a "here's a list of all of them" video, not a "top 10 best" list.

Ah, Final Fantasy VI, the game with a one-dimensional villain so bland that he needed entirely rewritten when the game was localized (and Woolsey's version became canon). The game with half a story , that just forgets to give you the second half. The game whose heroes' only real motive throughout the game is that they're the protagonists. A hodgepodge of gimmicky characters where half of them have barely any development and the ones that do only have like 2-3 good scenes to go off of.

VIII was my first game, but it's not my favorite (but in the Top 10). I was inspired to play IV by playing the first Dissidia. Cecil and Golbez fascinated me so much that I wanted to know more about them. That is where I began to play it. And it hooked me immediately and I didn't let go of it. The Story is great, the characters are great, the music is just amazing. There is actually no characrer I really dislike, okay, except for 2 (Rydia, because she was way more adorable and interesting when she was still a child (no pedo or homo). The moment she was introduced as an adult, all her charm was gone... Then Kain, who I couldn't stand from the beginning). Theme of Love is among my favorite Soundtracks of all time. Also FFIV contains 3 characters who win in each one categorie in my lists: Favorite Final Fantasy Main Character of all time (Cecil), Favorite Female Final Fantasy Character of all time (Rosa) and Favorite Animated Character of all time (Golbez). I have played it's sequel, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, as well for HOURS (this and FFIV combined, plus replaying and playing (almost) all versions (FFIV on SNES, GBA, DS, Android and Steam and the Sequel on Nintendo Wii, Android and Steam), probably 1000+ hours. And I am not even bored with 'em. This game just fascinates me. And it all started when I played Dissidia first and got hooked by both Cecil and Golbez (the latter was, is and will be always my main in every Dissidia Game ♡). It's, without a doubt, Hironobu Sakaguchi's Magnum Opus. And I am so gratefull for playing this Madterpiece.

I'm a nugget and a half but I might as well put my top 5 here too. #1 FF7: Crisis Core- As a writer and just someone who enjoys good character work, seeing the behind the scenes of one of gaming's biggest bads as well as how Zack Fair handled it all just stuck with me. It's the reason why FF7 is my favourite mainline game and overall just one of the best RPGs I've ever had the pleasure of playing. #2 FF6- I cannot stress enough how incredible this game, its music, storytelling and character work is. It throws you for loops, it gets you emotionally invested, it makes you want to be the best you possibly can. It's an experience, and a damn good one at that. #3 FF4- This is a weird one just because of how tenuous it is. Square tried a lot of new things and it really shows with how the story goes down. Cecil remains one of my all-time favourite protagonists and it warms my heart seeing him. #4 FF9- I love this game, not for it's world or music or even it's motley cast of ridculous and charismatic protagonists (though they're all huge factors) but for Kuja. Ffor some reason, Kuja is and perhaps always will be one of the most interesting characters in all of Final Fantasy and his performance, origin, story and mentally never ceases to intrigue and impress me. #5 FF TYpe-0- It's one that really isn't spoken about a lot, but it's a game I really genuinely enjoyed. I loved the characters and the almost Dynasty Warriors-esque scope of it all. I loved the music and the way the game made me feel as a new member having my first foray into Final Fantasy game on console. @@Jayce_Alexander i learned that from a previous reply, and i was joking, but it's heavily debatable and based upon what you want out of an RPG, i prefer WRPGs, cause they tend to have legitimate roleplaying and not just base itself having turn based combat and party mechanics. I use to have the same issue of finishing that game as well. Currently, I picked up the remake on PS4 and I'm storming through the story every time I get the chance (Nearing the end of disc 3 at the moment). It's like a final fantasy, jrpg gumbo; it contains all the awesome aspects of every single game leading to it. It's got airships, interesting kingdoms, lovable characters, and a bunch of stuff on the side that's loaded to the brim with extra content. Plus, compared to the other titles, it feels like I'm playing a folktale that has been passed down from generation to generation; gaining new aspects to the story from every new storyteller that somehow make the story even better. Personally, I believe that it's the one game in the entire Final Fantasy series that deserves the name Final Fantasy. Not because it's best in the series, but it *feels* like the proper way to end the Final Fantasy series.

@@kratos.8151 dude what do you mean? I was an 8yo kid when I was playing it and I was doing great. It's not a super complex system and, imho, it makes the players strategize more if they should use strong magics for junctions or combat or just junction them but be ready to have their stats worsen as the combats continue if they don't have access to the card transmutation system. I still remember when the game introduces you to Status Junctions and I learned to do Sleeping attacks, Slow attacks or Novox attacks. Plus, acquiring some GFs trivializes some fights, even some boss ones (like using Cerberus and then Carbuncle on your party against Edea made her completely useless). It's not a perfect system (far from it) but it doesn't ruin the game.

I did too...somewhat. It's far from my favorite and I dislike several things about it, but it's also far from my least favorite. You might not necessarily agree but one thing I like that many people give it shit for is the characters. This video specifically shit on the development, but the development was actually a positive experience for me. I started the game hating basically all of them, except Sazh because Sazh was always cool. By the end of the game I loved/liked all of them...except snow because fuck snow. I also liked the general idea behind the story. Actually reminded me a bit of X which was my favorite. The whole "if things go wrong, we're fucked, if things go right, we're still fucked" kinda thing, like what happened with Yuna and Tidus. The battle system as a whole was OK in the sense of i'ma fan of ATB, but I hated that...I think I forget the mechanic...juggling? Staggering? You know what i mean, how you do very little damage to enemies until you hit a certain breaking point that makes them vulnerable for a certain amount of time. That turned me off a bit. The stories potential was great, but the devil is in the details. For starters, it flash backed that that firework scene way too god damn much. And one of its greatest strengths to me (by the end at least), its characters, took a long time for me to open up to which desensitized me to many early events. Also because it didn't feel like it had a real main character (lightning may be the mascot but everyone feels pretty equally involved), it felt a bit unfocused at times. It also made the times in focused on snow, the one person I disliked from start to finish, painful to sit through. It also sucked because of all the switching around it did. first I playing this group for 20+ minutes, then this group, then a different group, back to this other group...mot other games in the franchise at the very least keep you with the MC 90% of the time (rarely straying, and if so it doesn't stray for long) I hear complaints about the linearity, but thats not necessarily a problem for me. Afterall, my favorite FF game (and honestly my favorite game of all time) is just as linear, only opening up late game, just like XIII, and not a whole lot of reason to actually DO anything when the world opened up. You just go to an old spot for a few minutes to pick up some item or do some minigame to unlock a celestial weapon or capture weak ass monsters to unlock super bosses and move on. So X opening up is really almost a lie. But that didn't matter. Because the story and characters were so enjoyable I felt compelled to move forward. I may have been mostly forced to move forward, but it felt like I had agency because I truly WANTED to go forward. The game and i were in agreement. With XIII, because of the weak early story and characters...I didn't care about moving forward, thus it felt like I was forced into it. Also didn't help that the shops weren't actual shops and were just part of the save crystal thing IIRC, thus we were basically shopping online...made the world feel less alive even though it looked so beautiful with its next gen graphics compared to X. So the problem isn't that the game is linear, tis that the beginning of the game is so bleh that moving forward feels like a chore and not an adventure. The level up system. The sheer fact that it hard caps me. I'm a bit of a grinder by nature (on my 6th playthrough of kingdom hearts 1, I stayed on destiny island until I was max level just to see which, if any, early game bosses i could one shot and see how long I could one shot them XD) and dislike a game telling me "you cant go on...for now, but you totally can later :D". it really rustled my jimmies. I don't like being told "no" for an answer that should clearly be "yes". Honestly the game just didn't feel fun till a little over half way in. No game, especially a FF game which has a rabid fanbase with large expectations, should take that long to git gud. Also dont make us read so damn much. i'm not against reading. I like reading. BUT I'm not playing a game to read (unless theres no voice acting, but subtitles dont count!!! lol). All those text logs and stuff were so tedious. This is also a problem with XV. If you can't present your world, story, and characters properly enough through organic gameplay, then you failed, simple as that. And stop making up so many proper nouns damn it. The "fal cie" (spelling) cou;d have just been, i dunno, gods or something and "la cie" people chosen by the gods. Thats just one example, i only played the game once and that was on release And lastly, the combat roles. I LOVE the class job system in the FF series. After X, V is probably my favorite FF. And the thing about all those is, is that if everyone can do the same role, they should all be equal at it. The fact that everyone was really only good at a few things and completely sucked in other areas not only forces you to use characters you may not want to use because you need a particular role (by end game I only disliked snow as I said, but I'm in the minority. the fanbase seems to hate most of the characters, especially hope lol. so being forced to use certain ones can be an issue.) or be forced into a particular playstyle because of the battle mechanics and limited availability of said roles among all characters. Either make it so everyone is just 1 thing (like in FFIV) and dont let us switch at all, or let everyone switch to anything and have everyone be equals in those roles. I like my freedom, tyvm But thats the negatives. The game looks beautiful, the characters EVENTUALLY become likable, the story is overall interesting. The game itself is so freaking interesting that here i am talking about its pro's and cons on the internet. I think it's biggest sin is that it has so much missed potential. This had the potential to be a truly fantastic game and ended up (in my opinion, I understand you feel different) one of the greats. But its so middle of the road for me.

Fighting an evil tree was too cool, also love the job system, and the funny parts of the plot. Never forget our dear ol' Gualf. He went Super Saiyan Grandpa for our sins. But all jokes aside, this was the first one I played. Back in High school my friends goofed around with emulators and I saw them playing FFV, so I tried my hand at emulating it and I never spent a moment in my computer doing the programming work for it. I just kept playing my FFV and going through it again and again. By then end of the day, everyone has their favorite FF game. Be it for your game having the favorite moments or the greatest characters, share what you love with others! Not bash someone for not loving FF7 or hating on people that don't love the first game of the series. Just try your best to share what you loved and convince your friends to play it! That way you might just spark another lover of the FF series.

I'll always admire the Gameboy Advance versions of FFIV, FFV, and FFVI. They are faithful to the originals, but clean up the translation issues, give us a better script, restore the gameplay to what it was meant to be, and fix some bugs. The graphics are delicately enhanced, without deviating too far. Then there's a bit of extra post-game content for fun. I want every Final Fantasy to always have a version available along these lines. Beyond that, it would be cool to see FFVI get something like what FFIII and FFIV got on the DS. Or what Secret of Mana is getting, soon. A humble, not-too-fancy update where the characters can get a bit more definition and start to resemble their original designs more than just a squatty sprite. Maybe some of the story scenes are a bit more expanded, or concepts are expressed with more detail. It's hard to imagine the soundtrack needing any improvement, but a fresh take on it with today's tech might be interesting -- imagine the Opera scene with voiced lyrics, or Dancing Mad empowered with modern instruments and samples. One thing I used to wish for, was a full-on modern HD remake of the game, using advanced graphical techniques so that the whole game really looked like Yoshitaka Amano's original art style. They could do that today if they wanted, however, the cynical grown-up in me knows that Square Enix would never had the desire or ability to do that.
@0Fyrebrand0
@0Fyrebrand0 6 жыл бұрын
+DreyfussFrost I assume your sentiment is to keep the game as faithful to the original design as possible. However, the SNES version of FFVI is terrible. Pubs are censored to be "cafés," much of the English script is nonsense, item names are meaningless gobbledygook. There are some pretty huge bugs that need addressing, including Relm's "Sketch" ability crashing the game if you use it on certain enemies (I think it might even permanently corrupt your save file), and the "Vigor" stat never even did anything. I loved FFVI on SNES as much as anyone, but let's not pretend it is perfect and couldn't benefit from some improvements.

Literally everyone. But if you need names (at the time) Spoony. No one likes that peice of shit except for contrarians, and people who don't ACTUALLY want to play a game, they want to watch a movie filled with shitty characters and plot. FFXIII is Spirits Within: The Game. Nothing to do with FF Terrible characters Nonsensical writing that breaks it's own rules.

I am a little sad you had no mention of FFV. It didn't come to the states until a ps1 port packaged alongside FFVI, but it was a solid game. Graphically it was still on FFIV's level, with some added polish, and while it wasn't Nobuo's best work, it did give us the eternally awesome Battle on the Big Bridge. And with it Gilgamesh, the only TRUE reoccurring character! But what makes it stand out was the job system. It's version of the job system was the most polished imo, and it allowed for some outstanding customization. And it's story was solid, the main cast were enjoyable, and had decent arcs to boot. And while the over arcing villain of FFIV was sorta just there last minute, FFV's antagonist, X-Death, is a clear and imposing threat from the first time you hear about him early on, building this sense of dread over this imposing magical emperor figure. I love almost all Final Fantasy games, except 2... it means well, but... *ahem* So it is nice to hear someone speak so passionately, and though we do not share the same ordering, it is always fun to see another's point of view. Thanks for another great video!

Great video! My first FF was VIII and while it’s not my all time favorite, I rank it highly simply because it made me fall in love with the series. Here’s my list of the ones I’ve played to completion - 7. FFVII - loved it as a kid, but didn’t move me in the same way as others did or hook me with its gameplay 6. FFV - still pick this one up to challenge myself with new job combos 5. FFIV - the DS remake is so good 4. FFVIII - best soundtrack of the whole series and probably the coolest world. Fight me. 3. FFX - just love this game. Only one of two FF games to make me openly sob 2. FFIX - Almost a perfect game. SLIGHTLY slow battle system made it tough to slog through at times. 1. FFVI - it couldn’t be any other. Best characters, story, second best soundtrack, amazing world building. And it made me cry over and over again. The Garamondes. The opera. THAT scene with Celes. Perfect game. Perfect.

I had heard that the DS remake was unnecessarily difficult, the gameplay gimmick wasn't introduced well, and the voice acting I had seen from it was... questionable. But if you enjoyed it, I won't say that you're wrong.

Dude what are you talking about, if you know how that game works it gets easy as hell, sure, some fights are difficult but if you manage to understand it gets so easy, if you know how to play the game you can easily do 2000+ damage as soon as you get polom and porom, not to mention using the items do as much damage as magic and you don't even waste mp, you can even cast the "Break" magic later on in the game trough a item and sometimes it can instakill enemies, perfect for farming purposes, they mixed FFIII item abilities with FFIV and it was awesome, and what do you mean the voice acting was quesitonable?!?! Yuri lowenthal and Liam o brian where perfect casts for Cecil and Kain, in fact everyone was! if only Square did the same with the old school final fantasy games, i imagine everyone would fall in love with final fantasy more and more.
@Rinaldot67

You have to understand that some of my knowledge of the game is secondhand. I didn't play it mostly off of recommendation from friends (plus, FFIV isn't my favorite of the early FFs). I won't budge on the voice acting though. Again, I didn't hear much of it, but Cecil's ridiculous shrieking of "WHY?!" somehow turned the destruction of Mist into a comedy.

My first FF game was Final Fantasy XV, and I only just completed it today. I honestly loved every second of it and am looking forward to playing other games in the series. What are everyone's personal recommendations? I did love the real time combat and open world aspect, even if the story was really average. I'd have loved the idea purely being four best mates roadtripping through different towns and regions exploring and hunting for bounty money on an extended gap year before Noct is crowned king, without all the stuff that happened post Altissa. Pretty simplistic, but the charm of XV (for me) came from the simplistic gameplay loop and awesome chemistry between Noct, Gladio, Ignis and Prompto.

Man, Final Fantasy 4 really is my favorite of the series. Everyone has those games that just speak to them I think. For me, it was it. Lines from Cecil just hit a deep chord in me like "I'm just a coward." as he lays in bed, knowing that something is wrong but unable (and unwilling) to fix it out of his own divided loyalties. In just that one line in the beginning... they created more complex, meaningful character dilemmas for me than in hours of play and storytelling, attempting to in later entries. And it's not like it's a lone moment. Who doesn't remember "To win this fight, you must not fight now."? That violence is not the only means of justice. For me, Final Fantasy 4 had sort of that childhood touchstone that changed me in ways others might attribute to Lord of the Rings, or Star Trek, Star Wars, etc.

Yes! FFIII/VI was also my intro to JRPGs! And I LOVED it then and still LOVE it now! It is potentially my favorite game of all time and very much crafted how I look at and think about video games today. It's memorable characters, it's deep and engaging story, it's beautiful and emotional musical score, all of it formed what I expect, nay, demand, of games even today, 20-something years later. Also, I haven't beat IX either, but still love it, too!

My favorite is VII it's the one I played first because of the hype, I never played an jrpg and was astounded by the mind blowing graphics of the PlayStation especially in the opening scene and the seamless transition of the FMV train to a pre-rendered background to me still looks gorgeous but the experience of the game informed me about a genre I didn't really know much about and the emotions it evoked haven't been matched

It's always interesting to see how split people are on 8. You really do either seem to love it or hate it. It's by far my favorite in the series. The atmosphere and art really push it beyond the rest for me. Definitely something special I haven't seen anywhere else in the medium. I don't care about the Draw system or the card thing, the mechanics aren't what do it for me. Just the art of it. But we all have wildly different opinions. I really, really don't like 9. I tried to play through it a year or two ago, and it was just so boring. I watched a LP to finish it, still didn't like it whatsoever. It's like 8 is everything I like in the series, while 9 is everything I don't. They're drastically different games, so that makes enough sense.
