Four new-ish noiseboxes Mick picked up at NAMM
Welcome to the show! No fussing: it’s a straight-up old-school pedal play-through today. Mick here, hello. I ended up bringing four things back from NAMM 2023, largely as a result of bumping into people who handed me pedals - nothing more than luck of the draw. As it turns out they’re all gain pedals, which is a good thing because there’s always room for one more, right?
Colosseum switching direction confusion - just for the record we wired it all ways; four jacks, two jacks, the other two jacks… Couldn't make it work, sorry!
Both amps are on all the time, just in case you are wondering.
Enjoy the show…

The lack of guitar music just very well may be the cause of the gear explosion. People are having a hard time finding new music they love so they’re making it themselves. I know this is the case for me personally.

@@smelltheglove2038 I disagree with the statement that there is a lack of guitar music. There is just a lack of people actually listening to guitar music. If you‘re open-minded and venture off the beaten path of Rock riffs into the realms of Metal, Punk, Hardcore, Alternative and their various subgenres you‘ll definitely find a lot of guitar music. But as soon as there is a bit of harder vocals in it, people discard it as garbage… Just dig a bit deeper.

@That Pedal Show > Mick the reason the switching option didn't function was because with that pedal being the NAMM demo version & to avoid any power issue at NAMM (Cornerstone had power issues at NAMM the previous year) the toggle switch to change sides direction was disabled:. So it was not something that you or Dan did wrong & importantly it is not a faulty pedal That 'NAMM demo' Colosseum just needs reprogramming for the switching option to work (Have just sent you text about it - BV 😎)

Wonderful show. Been watching your show for many years....as such learning that neither of you are "gain monsters".......I have always been a guitar player that always turned the gain all the way up. Using various Boogie amps, I've always grabbed that drive/gain knob and cranked it to the max. Then I would boost it with different distortion/overdrive pedals to get even more gain. No one (soundmen, fellow band members) ever told me my sound sucked......after watching your show, it slowly made me realize I was over compressing my tone into total mush.....so I started turning the gain down on the amp, and stopped using the pedal's gain....just the volume for boosting.....and now everybody is telling me how much they like my tone. And I figured it out....what you guys have been saying for years..."turn the gain DOWN"!!!! Now I'm 68 years old.....it took me a long time to open my ears.....but you two helped me improve my sound. Thanks!

I’ve hit ‘saturation’ with overdrive pedals 😊 Option paralysis! Finding one that works with YOUR setup is the trick? There’s a large range of pedals that would all work (more or less) to do what you need in front of your amp. Which is where I live… If you’re trying to build a setup that can play into any reasonable amp setup, and give you the ‘Tones’, then you design accordingly. Personally, I lose my mind 🤯

Mick, I know the feeling after doing 7 years of summer NAMM you get noise head :) We would always go to dinner at some place that was quiet before hitting the bars. I love the Silvertone tubes, have a boat load. Most of them made by Sylvania. Like the Silvertone, but 2 misses it's large and the knobs are a miss. Tsakalis sounded great, you should give it a TPS Award :) Klon diodes 1N34A Germanium. Does the Cornerstone have the buffer or not. I find all Klon Clones sound better with the buffer on, which is usually not the case on other pedals. Silicon always nastier except in the Special Kranker??? Funny a friend stopped by and I swapped out the diodes in his Soul Food to 1N34A ITT 1951's sounds great! Guys great show, all of these sound excellent!

I looked into this recently: The “words and ampersand” design was originally done by a company called Experimental Jetset with the names of the Beatles. They thought it was interesting how just those for first names plainly presented would evoke the idea of the Beatles and all that they accomplished. And they are happy about all the spin-offs that their design has inspired.

Not sure about this specific twin twelve pedal but your comment about “transistory” is apt- as a general rule pedals based on amp designs (JHS Superbolt is another example, and JHS has their own Twin Twelve) will use JFETs in place of valves because they drive & distort in much the same way. Typically these pedals are the preamp section(using JFETs) without the power section.

Mick's laugh at the 53:20 mark is hilarious! The Jackson Audio 1484 sounds amazing! Any idea how it would work as a preamp pedal?

Mick…I always love your playing and vibe with that gold top. For a Strat guy…it suits you. BTW will Neville ever get it back?

All very cool, but I doubt anything will ever knock the Protein or Tumnus deluxe off my board.

I love how the Goldtop Les Paul, Goldie (in my mind, at least), is slowly becoming, for me, Mick’s signature guitar and the one he plays and expresses himself through the best. That may or may not have to do with the fact that I also own a Goldtop Les Paul. 🤔

Hello Mark. It’s a Citizen Grand Touring which I guess was their nod to Panerai. It’s a nice thing, auto. Cheers!

Was really looking at the new Sheriff pedals / preamps from Victory to get that 'modded marshall' thing. Also was thinking to replace my Countress V4 + TwoNotes CabM + DepthTweaker/BabyBomb setup with just a single Victory Sheriff V4 _amp_ (because they have IR loading as well as something of 'poweramp emulation' going as well). I'm now thinking I just keep my setup and plugin a Room #40 in front to get whatever Marshall tone I want :). From classic bluesy marshall, to full on 'what the punk rockers are using although everything thinks they are Mesas' (Modded JMPs are in use by Greenday, Bad Religion, Rise Against... the ability to tweak the lower-freq gain is king :)).

I was looking at Sheriff as well for that modded Plexi sound. I got the Room40 instead just because it can do both Plexi and JCM. I'm running it into a mesa boogie roadking channel 2 with EL34's and its just ACE!
