This is the first video in a series where I am attempting to build what I am calling the ultimate mobile workbench & woodworking station. I work on projects in our small two car garage that we like to use to store our cars. So I am attempting to create a workbench that functions as the all in one workbench that is compact, provides storage for all of my woodworking tools, and allows me to use these tools with minimal setup.
In this video I assemble the frame, install the casters, miter saw, table and planer. I have plenty to add to this workbench in the future plan to including more tools, storage, and dust collection.

As far as the planer goes, would it be possible to shift it around 90 degrees so that you could use the entire underside of the bench as an "outfeed table"? It's hard to tell how much clearance you have, but it's just a thought.

Your video popped up, I watched it and I muttered, "This guy should be a technology teacher" and, yes you are! Retired teacher here and after years of lesson plans and instructional planning, I know the effort it takes to explain things thoroughly. Your videos get a whole bunch of 'A's. You makes us proud.

Some measurements will change based on the table saw, miter saw and planer you have. Highly doubt everyone has the same exact equipment. Tons of other setups out there that even include a spot for a router.

Trust me, your husband would want to make it himself. That's a really sweet gesture. Willing to bet he would absolutely appreciate you finding a few different ones and you two working together on making one, letting him take the lead on what he wants of course. Some husband's would rather chill in the garage by themselves and be left alone but many of us husbands absolutely appreciate a supportive helpful wife that gives us the space but support to do things like this. Heck just bringing me some water is a big deal as I build those shelves you wanted for the pantry, ya know? My wife has very rarely helped, volunteered etc but the few times she has, I've never forgotten and truly appreciated it.

Overall it’s a decent table. If you’re not using it for big heavy projects. Its gets unstable when using my jigsaw and handsaw. Table starts to shake and lifts off the ground. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?Also the folding mechanic works great kzfaq.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh when setting up, but I can’t get the table to fold down. It gets stuck 3/4ths on the way down.

Just came across this video after I built my own custom mobile workbench to hold my table saw and mitre saw. Mine is wider and shorter with storage compartments so I don’t get sawdust all over my tools. I love it and it’s absolutely necessary for small spaces. Plus, I keep all sawdust out of the garage by cutting outside

Beautiful job! And so well thought out! I envy your choice of table saw. I carefully and strongly considered it, but I didn't realize it could be broken down like that, and I wanted to do a similar workbench with built in tools. So I opted for the DeWalt saw, I really liked the rack and pinion fence. But the aluminum top has been a disappointment, and if I could undo that decision, I would! I am currently working on my workbench as well, mine is 4' x 7', I'm fortunate enough to have a larger then average garage! I'm putting my DeWalt planer on a separate flip cart with my sander. But the one tool I would suggest you add would be a router with a lift. I'm building that into mine, with a t-track fence. I think you'd find that really worthwhile! I look forward to seeing what else you do!

Couple suggestions. 1. Remove the cross beam that supports the table saw legs in the back and make two 45s that connect to the legs and holds up the table saw legs. Frees up the dust collection port and outfeed end to fold up on your planer. 2. Put a folding outfeed table on piano hinges that lays in the back but could fold up with a strong brace so you don't drop all your cuts onto the ground behind the table. Great consolidated table you made there!

Great ideas and great bench. The only thing that I would change would to be putting the planer below the mitre saw. That way you could put dust collection below the table saw and install a covered storage drawer below the table saw with room for the hose.

This is very timely for me. :) my workshop has been on lock down for two years now. First we discovered mold in the house and my brother in law got a big carried away on the remodel project. So anything that was in the house had to go somewhere. and my little shop was called into duty. Then the pandemic came rolling in. So we are just now getting started on pulling out of the shop, sorting on what to keep and what not to keep, and I'm slowly getting my shop back. It needs a lot of help and new benches.

Own a house finally and my handy man bailed! I ended up getting a lot of tools and actually found I enjoy wood working and remodeling! My Garage though is a mess at the moment, but once I clean? I am doing this. 100%. Can't wait till it gets warmer! Awesome video!

Great to finally see a work bench build that integrates the Delta 36-725T2. I just bought one of these and have had a very similar bench design in my head that I hope to begin work on soon. Mine will not include room for my miter saw but I do plan on adding dust collection, drawers, and storage for things like push sticks, saw blades, the fence, and my sled. Obviously I am sure it will end up holding more. Looking forward to seeing how your work bench comes a long!

I love the planer under the table saw. If you rotated it you could use the bottom of the bench as an out feed for it, but probably not necessary. One idea I do have is the far right corner behind the miter could have been extended out a bit so that a drill press could be mounted on it. That planer is on my want list.

Both of those are great ideas. I believe in part 2 there is a lot more added to the bottom also a drill press, band saw or sander is not off the table yet. Ya I really like mine so far. Not cheap but does a great job.

Great work! My only opinion is I would’ve made them separate but still able to put them flush up against one another to save space. I would like the option of being able to move the table saw around and using rollers for ripping longer pieces of wood. Same with the miter saw and I’m not particularly fond of having to bend over to use the plainer either. Then you could have the storage underneath for each thing having their perspective attachments, blades, tools for switching parts out, etc. Plus with separating them, it wouldn’t be as hard to move them around. Just my two cents!

Great timing. I’m in the middle of a similar build. I have an older Craftsman table saw. I built a platform for it and did not think about hanging it from the rails. Now I’m working on leveling the table saw top and the bench. For the miter saw, it is located more in the middle of the table. The plan is to remove the miter saw and store on bottom when not in use. I’ll swap in a spacer and I’ll have the whole top as a work surface when the miter saw is stored. Table saw dust collection will be a 90 deg connected to a side panel and a shop vac. Underneath storage will also include my rarely used scroll saw. Future upgrades will be a blade storage, tool/accessory storage and possibly hooks for sled storage. I look forward to your future upgrades.

Overall I really like the layout. The length could be shorter without the storage, but I like you do not need to move the miter saw. I think because I have the Dewalt Table saw, I will have more room for my future planer. Thank you for taking the time to explain all this.

You should make the miter saw a removal shelf that slides out, then you could swap out different tools, ie router, planer, scroll saw etc attached to their own bases. You would only need to have rails at different heights so each tool's cutting surface is flush with the table top. Then you could build a 24x24x8ft tall rack to store all the tools attached to their bases so they're easily accessible for fast swap. I have a couple of projects ahead in the queue before I get building it, but I've been mulling around a similar concept as your table for a while now. Thanks for the ideas.

Echo what a lot of users wrote. I’ve been thinking about how to use the side space of garage and get as many tools as possible like yours. Love the planer addition as I haven’t found one that incorporates the planer. I initially thought about rotating for outfeed but would probably have the bottom piled up with stuff any way. One thing I’ve been contemplating is rotating the table saw so I have an out feed for the table saw including if I have a jig in the mitre slot. This is a big help though. Thank you. Great job.

I would add a flip up/down out feed table on back for the table saw. And another flip up/down side table next to your miter saw so it is easier to cut long pieces.

I like the idea of adding a router. Another idea I saw, one that I wish I could take credit for, is attaching miter saws, drills, etc. onto their own drawers/shelves that slide into their respective slots when used and slide into a cabinet when not being used. This idea would also free up bench top space. An idea I've been playing with because I have limited space in my garage is taking that four by eight table plan most people use and somehow making it so it unfolds into a sixteen foot bench. My garage is long and narrow, one vehicle wide, I'm not sure if yours is long enough for this idea or deep enough if you want to put it on the back wall. This table is so well planned out! I was very surprised those little casters would manage such a big piece of lumber, especially when you reinforced the entire structure with extra boards and made the whole structure 50% heavier. Didn't expect those little guys to hold up like that.

I like this design a lot - looks like it will do a lot in a relatively small space, and eliminate the need for constant setup/teardown in a small workspace. I like the double bracing on all of the frame and it no doubt adds a lot for strength. A couple of thoughts though: Diagonal bracing across the center of the back, on the right side, and underneath would add a lot of rigidity to this build, and help ensure against shifting/slop over time under all the weight of the tools. Rather than dealing with what looks to be a cumbersome method to drop the feet below the casters - maybe consider flip-down casters instead, with levelling feet mounted to the bottom of the frame. Aside from those 2 things - this looks great and I really like this build. Thanks for sharing.

Great build. I like the design that makes the most of your space. Very efficient. I would not be as concerned about the planer sliding in and out of place as much as I would be annoyed at the dust from the table saw continually raining down on the top of the planer. I also work in a small garage where I park a car. Same planer. Same tablesaw. My row of tools also rolls around but I have the planer in a flip cart (Drew Fisher design) with my sander. My table saw lives separate but will go in a bench with the router lift.

Add some shelving to the bottom and middle, install a small air compressor, use the shelves for your staplers, screw shooters, etc. great work

I have a 3 car garage, one garage is separated however. I converted it to a workshop. Even though I have the entire garage to myself (it's like 12 foot by 20 foot) I appreciate the efficiency. What I figured out is I have EVERYTHING in my shop on locking caster wheels so If I have a large wood slab, I can move around everything and be agile. Ie, table saw can be folded down on sides for more compact items, rolled out or in garage to rip cuts or whatever I need to do. Dual bevel miter saw same thing, on wheels and can be moved around. Main workbench can be rolled around and adjusted. For me, it works. If I had a much larger shop things would be more permanent but I don't have that luxury :) For the planer, if the bench is against the wall, that would be an issue for sliding any lumber through, but since it's on wheels I guess like myself you can be moveable.

This video is exactly what I need. I have the exact same models of all 3 tools (table-saw, planer and miter saw) and also the same issue, where I'm working out of a small area of my garage, so everything needs to be mobile. I'm definitely interested in building this and I'm looking forward to seeing what you have next. Might I suggest a folding outfeed table on the back? Hopefully Part 2 is up soon! Nice job.

Have you considered an out feed table that folds up for use and down again for storing against the wall? It’s something I’m considering for my build as a space saving measure while also adding some more versatility

That's a beautiful bench. Love the idea of having both saws and a planer in a mobile bench. I'd try to add a router table, a vise and a folding outfeed table. I think you're robbing the bench of a lot of strength by not gluing all your joints. You could skip a lot of those screws if everything was glued, especially where you have face to face connections.

What a diverse channel. Found you because I was looking into buying the sun joe scarifier. Then I wanted to check out your two month update on that. Then I saw that you did a trim wall- something We've been thinking of doing in our nursery. I'm a software engineer but I have a 3D printer and use CAD quite a bit so It was cool to see you using CAD for the nursery and the mobile work bench. You earned a sub!

I like it. A little refinement and I could see it being quite useful. I would maybe put the planer in the middle on the same slides. And then use the space underneath the table saw for other tools.

Little tip when jigsawing your circular cut for your chop saw. Cut just short of your trace line and then sand the rest to the line.

Great Video! Going to use most of your ideas!. I am thinking of putting the planer in the middle and raising it up (getting old). I figure Ican put a catch in front of it if doing a lot of pieces.

I would always plan on sliding out the planer, and perhaps making a cam lock support while it's out so you don't fatigue the slide over time. $.02

Those casters are sweet. I wish they made a set that has a single 3/8" or 1/2" threaded bolt (normally called a "stem caster"), so they can be used on metal shop stands as a replacement to their standard leveling feet or non-adjustable casters.

I like it. I was thinking about making something similar, but with 4x4s and half-lap joints vs all of those pocket hole screws.

A router between the saw and miter saw would be perfect.Utilize the existing tables awesome fence as the basis for your router fence.Great video

Nice job. I've made one very similar but with a slightly different configuration for my needs. Anyway I recommend adding plywood walls width wise where you can between the legs. It's an easy way to prevent racking. You can put little selves and hooks within those spaces to hold accessories too. Oh and a drill press just behind the fence line of the mitre saw.

I have a 1 car garage (not used for car) and the floor has ~5 degree incline that eventually needs leveling. Use to have a swing door however I took it out as sick of smashing my head on it. I'm 6'3" and it use to be my grandfathers and he was only 5'9" so hence he could always walk under it. Also looking at a compact way of storing and using tools. I may go with a long bench and have each major tool on own trolley that I can pull out... use and put back.

I had a thought for the planer. What if you had a vertically opening cabinet that locked into place when extended. That way you wouldn’t have to lean over when using it, and it wouldn’t interfere with your tabletop as long as the cabinet face is flush

Great build... FYI that’s a “Dewalt” planer (not Delta). I have the same one, I’ve been using it for over 15 years and only changed the blades. I put a router table, woodworking clamps and built in electrical on my work station. Keep building young man!🔨
