So many Tacoma owners debate and try to understand which Tune to choose for their Toyota Tacomas. Will a throttle controller or tune provide you with the best results? Which one is better than the other and will the tune damage my Tacoma?? In this video we get feedback from multiple fellow Tacoma owners getting their Tacomas tuned for the very first time. I have a 2023 Tacoma Trail Edition. I love the thing. Best vehicle I have ever had. I have about 2000+ miles. I can already tell. A trip from Kansas City to Topeka and I am convinced. The original tune in the car has to go. I have an appointment next weekend. The last guy said everything I feel. To a T. And I also drive for a living. I almost feel like a class action lawsuit against Toyota is in order. Why am I having to spend an additional 500.00 to get the vehicle where it should be from the beginning!?!?!?!? Outrageous!!! Preposterous!!!! Inconceivable!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂

Yeah, it’s pretty amazing that so many people have had this issue and yet Toyota has not fixed the problem with this generation.. not sure why they weren’t able to adopt or get the same results that the OTT has had… and while it’s annoying to spend $500 on a brand new truck just to get it to drive right.. I’m glad this is really all it takes to fix all the issues this truck comes with from the factory. Who’s tuning your truck? Let me know how it goes!

I just got my OTT done on Friday and I can’t believe people actually think that all you need is a pedal commander. ROBMOTIVE is on of those people. He doesn’t understand how phenomenal the OTT really is. I also shouted you out in my latest video 👍👍

Right on!👍🏼🤙🏼. Yeah… my guess is that he makes a commission $$ on the pedal commander.. endorsing a tune would damage that commission income.. not saying that is 100% the reason but that’s just my guess. Or he did get the tune and just doesn’t tell anyone🤣.

I bought a brand new 2023 Toyota TRD Off-Road last March, 23rd, and since buying it I put around 22k into building it up for overlanding and in doing so, I added a little over 1000lbs of extra weight. Throttle lag got real bad, my MPG's went down into the 14's, as low as the 12's if I was carrying any additional weight in the back, and the gear shifting suffered even worse than in stock/unmodified form. I first added an AFE Cold air intake and that really did clean up all of the throttle lag from take off, started making power as low as 1100 rpm's and it gave an alright boost to the powerband when the truck would down shift on it's own, but I still wasn't satisfied with the power characteristics of the truck. I looked into a Power Commander but decided against it because it seemed like a band aid and so I started researching tunes. I decided on the OTT Tune and found a tuner out here in Albuquerque named John and got it done, WOW, big difference! It added even more power and strength to the powerband at take-off, added more power throughout the entire powerband and now, when going up big hills, it finds a little sweet spot between 2500-3500 rpm's that allows me to achieve instant power within a 15mph range before it shifts. Also, the OTT Tune gave me back the mpg's that I lost from adding all of the weight. In town I gained an average of 1-1.5 mpg and on the highway between 2-4 mpg's depending on how I drive. I know others that didn't really gain any mpg's but they didn't really add any extra weight either so I'm guessing the improvements from the tune fix mpg's on heavier Taco's built up for overlanding. So for Over Landers, this is a good thing. I have my tune set at Spicey Race and it feels great. Because of all the extra weight, Spicey Race is not overbearing at all, the truck just feels like it's supposed to feel.

I did the KD Max tune 6 months after I got my truck cause the gear hunting really bothers me. The difference is night and day. You hardly feel the difference on your first drive cause the computer is still learning but after a couple of days, you will feel the improvement.

My theory is that there will be people that will never be comfortable with it regardless… some people are just super paranoid about warranty issues… some people probably make money on pedal commanders or sprint boosters etc… and recommending a tune will take a way from that.. at the end of the day I don’t make one cent from the Overland Tailor Team nor did I receive the tune for free.. This tune is honestly the most groundbreaking mod I have done to my Tacoma and literally every Tacoma regardless of lifestyle and purpose of the trucks setup will benefit from this tune. At the end of the day I want people to have the right and accurate information about this tune so they can do their own research and make the best informed decision for themselves.. not trying to pressure anyone into getting the tune.. just want the facts and experiences to be out there so people know that there is an actual fix to the issue and not just a “band aid” with a throttle controller that only takes care of one aspect out of the many issues that come on the stock tuned Tacoma.. for a couple hundred dollars more for it only makes sense to get the actual problem resolved and to be able to fully enjoy the full potential of the Tacoma. AND prolong the life of your vehicle! 👍🏼.. I mean.. “come on McFly!” “Anyone home McFly??” 🤣 classic!

@@westcoasttaco Ha! Yes. Sprint Booster was kind of out front when I bought mine 2 years ago. It's simple, nice and very small - it solves the pedal lag (no small annoyance). Then seemingly overnight, a BUNCH of KZfaqrs were all about "Pedal Commander" - it's obvious they are being paid or greased. My pulling the trigger " breaking point" (meanwhile keeping up the ongoing positive OTT reviews all along) was taking several long trips w/ cruise on the Tacoma w/ hills etc (Rev RPM city!!!)... then taking my wife's turbo 2020 outback touring XT on a rolly hill trip. It drove like the hills, in cruise, weren't there (not to mention she had no pedal lag from the day she first drove it home). The contrast was BLATANT. Then reading OTT can now help in cruise mode - TAKE MY MONEY. Yep, w/ a pedal device you are getting a couple chapters - w/ an OTT you get the whole book. I think the hesitancy or flat out "no" is mostly "the warranty" fears w/ newer Tacos (like mine). Fear is powerful to the human condition. "Dog whistle" stuff. Look at Left politics all day long "Racism", "Granny pushed off a cliff in wheelchair over social security" and of course covid, covid, covid, take the shot or we will ruin your life, fired, kicked out, etc. (granted the Right uses it too, but often more warranted) So yeah, fear of warranty issues. 😏 Carry on WCT! 🤛

Love my OTT tune. The only thing that is disappointing is if I use my cruise control it will still gear hunt. Not sure why the cruise control would make a difference.

How does the OTT help the 3rd gen Tacoma with a manual transmission? Does it delete rev hang? Does it help with low end power?

My mpgs improved, but some say it doesn’t change theirs.. so it’s a coin toss I suppose? For your setup you may like the MED/Spicy? That’s what I have. I would recommend trying out a couple of the settings with your tuner before making your decision.. either way you will love it 👍🏼🤙🏼

I don't think it would matter but, I haven't heard anything about 'elevation' with this tune with all the research I've been doing. I'm close to pulling the trigger on this tune but I'd want to make sure I'd be able to drive anywhere, from sea level to 10k feet in the mountains.

I reached out to Q and got this for you: Any “naturally aspirated” vehicle will have its difficulties at higher elevations where the air density is lower. The tune will definitely help with reducing gear hunting up the mountain but if you’re expecting sea level performance at 10k feet, be prepared to be disappointed. For example… try running a mile by the beach and running a mile at 10k feet and see if you can beat your time. Hope this helps with your question 🤙🏼

@@CAV3MAN227 my pleasure, bro! That’s what this channel is all about.. going the extra mile and making sure people get answers they need for their Tacoma’s. So the tune will adjust to any octane you run… but personally I have only ran 91 since I’ve had the tune. Essentially the higher octane a fuel you put in your vehicle, more performance and better response you’re going to see from it whether it’s tuned or not.. but this tune really takes things to the next level if you’re looking to seriously improve the quality of ride and performance of your truck. There’s just no two ways about it.👍🏼

You caught it!!👏🏼👍🏼. I did, Q and I discussed me trying other flavors to help others understand the differences. I literally just got it yesterday and need to get a chance to really play with it. So stay tuned for that! So far a heightened sense of sensitivity on the throttle response. I’ll see if I like it more than what I’ve been running and get everyone an update 🤙🏼

so I went with a light/mild for my first tune.. I think you would be happy with a mild/medium time.. they’ve done some reconfiguring and they have came out with a really nice blend and that’s what they are giving people that are getting their trucks tuned for the first time. I just bumped up to a medium/spicy. I’m trying to give people comparisons with medium/spicy is pretty touchy. I would probably go with a mild/ medium if I were you… then test drive it and make sure you like it. If it’s too aggressive, then go to the light/mild.

@@westcoasttaco so I met up with John (ADV 4x4) and got my OTT tune. I did go with the mild/medium. It was the only one I tried. I figured I could always change it up later. I enjoyed my hour and 45 minute drive back a lot better than drive there. Lol. Tried racing a Ranger on way back but a cop got in the way. Pushed my ect for mild of course. I did learn that different levels only change throttle response. Shifting in trans is same in all. Thanks again for your help and your content‼️

I would reach out to this guy and see if he makes appointments with other Taco owners in your area or if he recommends someone else.. sometimes tuners will do a special trip once a month to areas where there isn’t a close tuner. I’ve had very positive results with this tune, regarding my gas mileage. Essentially Ive gained about 60 miles on a full tank! I’m sure a lot has to do with the way I drive which is a lot of highway. I just bought a new 2023 TRD off-road . I was curious when the computer is flashed does it void the factory warranty and if so is it hidden we’re a dealer won’t know or can it be re-flashed back to stock so the dealer won’t know ? Thanks in advance Edit: Also is there any tuners near OREGON ?

Anytime you do a Mod especially a tune, you are always at risk of getting your warranty voided. Other than throttle response improvements,which can be accomplished by a Banks power monster, what does the tune do besides put the transmission in a different gear ? Higher rpm’s and different shift points can be had with ECT. Tell me I’m wrong and why.

Will 91/93 octane increase performance?

The tune works and adjusts with whatever octane you’re using, but yes, the higher the octane, essentially the better performance you’re gonna get from the vehicle with the tune.. at least that’s been my experience. I’ve only used 91 since I’ve had the tune done and my miles per gallon has increased by almost 60 miles on a full tank and the truck drives so perfectly and I can only assume that the 91 octane gasoline and the tune are the two main reasons the truck drives as well as it does now.

I have a 2006 4Runner 4.0 liter . In the manual it states very clearly, that using 91 or higher octane will improve performance adding 4 or 5 hp. I’m not sure if the 3.5 liter will react the same.

I’m just not convinced that this is the thing to do with a manual transmission Taco. Having said that I don’t understand why anyone would buy an automatic unless they were handicapped.

I did a review with a manual to help provide some information about that. Check it out if you like: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z6mbnJVjqdmlgaM.html My #1 reason for getting the auto was due to the fact that they don’t make a DCLB with a manual transmission.. manuals are awesome.. no doubt about it!👍🏼 Essentially these are changes and improvements you will see when getting the manual tuned: *specifically designed and dyno tested for a manual Tacoma (not an automatic tune adjusted/adapted for manual truck) *better throttle response results in smoother/better Rev matching *multiple throttle settings to match driver’s preference *linear power and performance

@@westcoasttaco will check that out. Appreciate your comment. Toyota is nasty with their offerings in this regard. Up here in Canada, the Off Road is not offered in a manual transmission at all unless you go with a Access Cab but then no premium pkg offered on that. So frustrating. Also no Off Road DCLB offered here even in Auto trans. Then on some of the other models they leave certain features off the Canadian market trucks.

i've had tacoma's since 07, one thing that i see in all videos that i really don't understand, why would anyone want a double cab short bed? or even a double cab in general? these are supposed to be trucks not suv's. Like legitimately why would someone choose a double cab? why are they taking over the market? i really don't understand
