Those are honestly pretty good picks for Luke and Morgan, especially since my personal favorite songs from both of those albums (Where the Wild Things Are and Tennessee Numbers, respectively) weren’t eligible. Watermelon Moonshine is a great pick for No. 1 too, it’s got all the right ingredients to be an all-time classic.

Dang, it's criminal that Charles Wesley Godwin's new album didn't have any in the Billboards Charts to at least get an honorable mention. The Flood, 10-38, All Again, West of Lonesome, Family Ties, and Another Leaf could all easily be in the Top 10 charts right now.

Fiddles, banjos, acoustic guitars and harmonicas are what belong in country music. I was waiting for a song I thought came out this year, Uncle Lucius’s “keep the wolves away”, but I just looked up the album and realized it came out in 2012. And I very much agree with your number one pick. What a fantastic song.

Love seeing Chayce Beckham on here. I was so glad that they decided to push 23 to radio. I hope his label lets him take that sound and run with it. And to stick with his own songs! On his EP from last year it was painfully obvious which songs he wrote and which songs were written by others. All the good ones were written by him, and then the ones that were full of typical country song tropes were written by other people. I hope Tell Me Twice gets pushed to radio next, then they let him record some new songs that shows how great he can be. I really think he can be the first American Idol winner since Scotty (or Phillip Phillips) to become a real star.

I'd have gone with "Wildflowers and Wild Horses" for the Wilson song. Love Lainey but I guess I'm one of the few who didn't care for "Watermelon Moonshine." To me, it was a lyrical rehash of "Strawberry Wine" and a melodic rehash of "That's What I Love About Sunday," both of which I really liked. I'm on board with most of your other picks, though I was surprised to see "Truck Bed" on the list, and I'd have gone with either "The Part" or "See Me Now" for Combs over "Five Leaf Clover" and "Had It" (buried as the next to last track on the album) or "98 Braves" over "Me + All Your Reasons" for Wallen. Rules are rules, though, so you had to narrow both of those albums down to one track each.

I really wish we had more songs like "Save Me." It seems like country songs that send that kind of message don't really exist as much as they should. Hopefully more artists open up about writing and singing about those topics going forward. (Also love how "23" and "Five Leaf Clover" made the list!)

Someone - Aaron Lewis Broken People - Eddie Flint Cover Me Up - Jason Isbell Let You Down - Zach Bryan All address being broken humans, addiction, alcoholism & how it affects those around them to different levels. Gonna be hard to find too many songs close to Jelly Roll’s just because frankly most people that go through that aren’t going to get to the point of mainstream musical success too.

I’m a big fan of a sub-genre called alternative country, or alt-country for short. It had a strong underground scene in the ‘90s but never really saw commercial success. It’s become a big inspiration for me. I think some of the more traditional country coming out today closely resembles this small ‘90s movement, and it would be cool to see a video on your thoughts about it. Here are a few albums that I recommend. The Jayhawks - Tomorrow the Green Grass Son Volt - Trace Steve Earle - I Feel Alright Gillian Welch - Revival Old 97’s - Too Far to Care Whiskeytown - Strangers Almanac Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road Happy New Year’s, Grady!

Love Morgan and Hard, Kip Moore and also Luke Combs and Riley Green that I usually listen to, but I feel like I’ve been seeking something new or different, with no direction to go in.
