No albums have caused a storm in the hip-hop world quite like these ones. From angry fans to bad reviews, these albums are remembered in the minds of all rap listeners, albeit for the wrong reasons.

I’ll never defend Revival but calling Kamikaze the most embarrassing album is crazy. Fans loved that album. And I’m not sure why there’s a narrative that he spent the whole album complaining about how Revival was received or dissing the new generation of rappers. He did have 3 songs that fit that narrative but that’s it

No sane hip hop fan would defend revival facts 💯 but Kamikaze was an epic return to form with a modern twist but I suppose it goes over peoples heads just like Em's barz or maybe we've reached the era where lyrical talent gets overlooked because most new rappers either don't have it, won't use it or just don't care about the craft.... aka doing very little for 2mins of fame and a bag 😅

Sort of related, but Mac Miller is definitely super lucky with how his estate has handled his posthumous career. Over 4 years after his death, and all they did was put out a mostly finished album that Mac was planning to release a few months after Swimming. Many people consider that album to be his best, or among his best. Aside from that, there’s news of his joint album with MadLib also getting released, but, again, that was an actual project, not something random his estate cobbled together and spat out for money. Definitely interesting that all of these albums were from the past few years, though. Was the genre just that much more liked before 2000?

Well all the pre 2000 albums that sucked aren't even remembered today. From what I heard, Nastradamus was seen as similar to a Revival back then - no one even cares about it or remembers it exists today

Anyway, I have a history with the older stuff, but having "Hip Hop is Dead" in your discography and then going on to make more hip hop albums is tragic in itself. Haven't listened to Nas since Nasir, so its also tragic I didn't hear he released an album since then. Thought he would have gone back into inactivity like he did after Life is Good. Since you're recommending it, I'll give KD 1-3 a try.

So the way that I see Eminem after MMLP2 is a man that has accomplished all that he wanted from rap. He was regarded as the best MC rap has ever seen, he had what a 3 or 4 album run in the early 2000s starting out that most folk don’t get until their legacy is in talks, he has his own record label (even if it is just an imprint), he was an addict who recovered from his addiction after oding multiple times. Like there’s not much more the man can accomplish but music is obviously still his passion so now a days he raps just to rap. I’m not justifying the corny ass bars or the cringe he can put out but when you look at Eminem through the lens of an old guy just having fun and having nothing left to prove to people, then you start to realize that he ain’t gone release music even remotely similar to his early stuff or music with substance or anything like that. He simply releases new music because he has an audience and a voice still
@justsomeone3931
@justsomeone3931 Жыл бұрын
Not releasing music with substance is why he’s on this list.. Also, Jay-Z is an old guy (a billionaire at that). He made his way from the very bottom to the very top, has been regarded as the best rapper alive by many within the culture, started a very successful record label, left said label and started another very successful label, was the ceo of Def Jam at one point, married Beyoncé.. you would be hard pressed to list all of his awards, honors, accolades, and accomplishments in business, music, and song writing. He doesn’t even charge for verses anymore he just raps on songs that he likes. That’s passion.. Also, his music still has substance even though he’s just an old guy with nothing else to prove; who has accomplished everything and is just having fun.. I see what you’re saying, but because of examples like Jay-Z and a handful of other older rappers who fit a similar profile; I gotta disagree. We all have opinions though. ✌🏿blessings.

The Logic hate really sucks cause his run from Everybody to Confessions is truly horrible, but his runs before and after are phenomenal. And you know, most rappers labeled as goats have gone through this as well like Nas and Jay-Z, but they went through those slumps without the age of the Internet. People need to put their respect back on Logic, cause he has some of the best albums and mixtapes from any rapper ever. Under Pressure is a top 50 rap album for me and TITS, Bobby Tarentino, No Pressure, Vinyl Days, and College Park are all fantastically made, and it is as if nobody cares.

Eminem was right when he talked about the new generation of rappers being garbage. He was talking about rappers like lil pump, smoke pump, SoundCloud rappers, etc. Also, he did a video with Lyrical Lemonade... which was a huge part of the new gen of rap at the time. So how did Eminem act like he wanted nothing to do with the current generation of rap? He also had songs with Joyner Lucas.... so he does get involved with the new generation of rap, just not the shitty part. Relapse is actually an amazing album though. It was made more for slim shady lp and Marshall mathers lp fans that were more used to Eminem’s horrorcore and bizarre lyrical roots. If you look at relapse like a concept album from the POV of a drug addicted serial killer it makes a lot more sense. People’s really only criticism was the accents but em did accents from the start so that criticism never made sense to me. I think it was younger fans used to his Eminem show and 8 mile “lose yourself” motivational raps that disliked relapse. Relapse is my 3rd favorite album of ems after slim shady lp and Eminem show

The worst part about faith and what ruined it was obviously the features his team selected, but also the production, changing all of the original beats to the tracks and ruining them like top shotta, bouta million more time beat the speaker, woo baby interlude etc, or taking verses from other unfished songs and Frankensteining them onto another one (demeanour verse was taken from a track meant for swizz beats and dmx called money money money or face 2 face is the solo pop version. And now us die hard pop smoke fans like myself have no new releases or anything about pop smoke. It was clear from the start faith was a cash grab, putting the entire mainstream industry on it, changing the production to the tracks pop had left behind and ruining them. It’s a dame shame how they handled his legacy after his death. They released like 70+ tracks in a year in a half after his death. So if you’re still wondering why Eminem might’ve continued this argument about people not liking revival, I think the man explained it pretty well in his interview with sway in the morning. He admitted that the album was bad, I don’t think the man is trying to hold onto that nowadays. But you gotta understand what the culture of rap was like when he first started. The only reason he ever became the name that he is today is because he had to try and be the best lyricist out there. Lyricism is not respected like it used to be, and for someone like Eminem that’s still a pretty big culture shock.

So for this video, I get annoyed when something is named "ever" and it just features surface level stuff that is very recent. Most of this list you could get from looking up bad albums from just 2019 or looking at Fantano's Not Good list. It shows just non in-depth research. I know it's clickbait to an extent but still, can you go further than just stuff this surface level? There were albums in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s that were hated and not well received too. Video is okay otherwise.
@fantastichiphop
@fantastichiphop Жыл бұрын
For this video I state the criteria was based on public backlash/perception and as somebody who was not around then, aside from vague lists on the internet which don’t give you good information there is not much information to research how people felt. I am only speaking to my point of reference but if you could enlighten me that would be great thanks!
@freal
@freal Жыл бұрын
@@fantastichiphop I'll just say it's possible to search for lists/articles/comments about stuff from before 5 years ago. There is still a lot of archived information online, readily accessible and backing this up (reviews, articles, fan comments on websites, videos etc.) to explore/look into. I also asked Chat GPT and it gave me some opinion on albums considered the worst ever, some of which are easy to use as a starting point to explore further. And obviously you can check and listen to the albums and see if you agree with the backlash. And it's not enlightening you or anything, it's just trying to get more outside the box type of content instead of just the same type of stuff every other new hip hop/music KZfaqr is doing, putting the same albums on a list in a different order. You know, going above and beyond like Watch Mojo level stuff, which you can definitely do. And obviously this is just my opinion of course.
