Everyone has their favorite Doctor. Maybe you’ve been watching since the 70s and Tom Baker’s infinite charisma is still with you today. Maybe you started watching as the revival aired and you fell in love with the immensely popular manic 10th Doctor played by David Tennant. As for me, my favorite Doctor is Peter Capaldi’s 12th, due to his tremendous acting ability and the emotional gravitas he seemed to always carry during the role.
But for quite a few Doctor Who fans, Matt Smith is their favorite - and it makes sense. The 11th Doctor’s era is when Doctor Who exploded in popularity in the Americas, greatly expanding the show’s reach and audience. There is always a sort of imprint that your first Doctor has on you - and for a lot of fans that first Doctor was 11. For me personally, he didn’t rank as high as the other nuwho doctors. That said, I certainly don’t dislike 11 - on the contrary, I adore his run as the Time Lord - but I think the reasons he makes a great Doctor are a bit more complex than most people assume.
Stay frosty!
Thanks for watching my video: The 11th Doctor: The Story of a Lifetime

Doctor Who feels like a corporation now, I feel like a huge part of my childhood is gone because they are trying to make the show more sjw friendly and it feels as though it's been botched to fit in with modern times for the sake of it rather than focusing on good writing and storytelling with deep plots and it all intertwining, season 11 and 12 are the perfect example of just because you can doesn't mean you should! That video was wonderful! I really enjoyed everything about it's presentation and it gave new light to this amazing show! It's sad that season 5 is now 10 years old but I think it's perfectly solidified in the past as a golden example of a really good TV show.

@redjirachi1

I wonder if that's the case or not. How would he be certain if the Meta-Crisis counted since it never happened to any other Time Lord before? Or 2 to 3, since that was forced on him(they said they would change his face) and may not have used up energy. "Let's Kill Hitler" has "regenerations disabled" as a statement by the TARDIS which he seemed surprised by, and he was alone at the time so it's not like he has a reason to lie. Then River gave him regeneration energy, so he would have reason to not be certain if he still has regeneration energy left, at least until Season 7 confirmed it. It might go to explain how he didn't age in 300 years but started to on Trenzalore; there was enough leftover regeneration energy that even by Time Lord standards 11 aged gracefully

Meta crisis counts as a regeneration because why wouldn't it - he was fatally injured, then regenerated his body (sending the excess into his hand). His second regeneration, though forced, was still a regeneration. The thing with the Cyber controller was a bluff Let's kill Hitler was unlikely to give him more regenerations, I reckon the surprise is more to do with the fact that he always seems to find a way to keep on living through the impossible, until that point The limit on regenerations has been known since the classic era, but it was only after seeing that there was a secret incarnation of the Doctor only present in the time war that we know for certain he has run out of regenerations

And rewatching Matt's run after the time of the doctor i saw so many nuances i had missed before, 11's thoughts about limited time, seeing everything and doing everything that he can. I still get teary eyed when thinking about his speech on akhaten and his final speech. @gagedsm
@gagedsm Жыл бұрын
@@pollyajohns hell, I think it’s entirely possible to keep the timeless child stuff while also making not the truth. Simply make it so the Timeless child was this covert, infinitely regenerating being from another universe, one who just so happened to also choose the title of “Doctor” at some point in their lives, and when the “memory wipe” happened, it worked much like a normal Gallifreyian fob watch, taking the timless child’s memories and life essence, and the timelords just leave the now human TC to just live out their life and die. Then during The Time of The Doctor, the Time Lords rewarded The Doctor with the TC’s endless regeneration, and the memories of the TC are now hidden deep within The Doctor’s subconscious. Then when the Master (pre Missy) finds out about this, they misread the truth, and assumed the Doctor was the timeless child, and did what they did. And due to the memories of the TC being deep within the Doctor’s mind, The Doctor also believes Master. I dunno if that’s perfect, but it’s a way to write it away without completely retconning something.

Matt Smith made me fall in love with optimism. Through all the sorrow of losing the Ponds, memories of Gallifrey, and that angst he gained from 10, he ended his story happy and with no regrets. It's the thing that inspires me the most about the 11th doctor. It's the fact that he taught me that no matter how hard it gets, no matter who hurts you or how your world burns down, there is always hope for a better tomorrow. He taught me that you have to be the one to live your life according to how you want it to go. However sometimes, things happen. They can be good or bad, but sometimes things just happen. But life is like a pile of good things and bad things, the good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. Miracles, wonder, and hope. A Doctor Who story.

An interesting take. I do like it. Yet, I always thought of the Eleventh Doctor as the one who tries to remember. His manners are based on the Second Doctor, he even uses his "you've redecorated; I don't like it" catchphrase, the 50th anniversary was during his era and it was all about remembering the past. The Silence prevent you from remembering. Amy needs to remember him to bring him back at the end of Series 5. The Rings of Akhaten is all about cherishing memories. Eleven uses the word "remember" so many times during his tenure, and especially at the very end. The Eleventh Doctor was an ode to Doctor Who, to remember where he came from, during his very last incarnation. ...well, during his 12th regeneration anyway. ;)

Eleven, for me, was always the most menacing. nine, ten and twelve had anger, but they weren’t like him, eleven was kind, charismatic and charming, and that made his anger all the scarier because it was rarer, and he wasn’t a man who would lash out violently or scream when he got angry, he was quiet, calculated and manipulative, he doesn’t hurt people, he makes them hurt each other and themselves, and ruins lives, rather than ending them. This, in my opinion, is the scariest form of The Doctor, the one who hurt people, rather than kill them

Although I go back to Tom Baker,.and choosing between 9,10, and 11 would be like choosing between my own kids, Peter Capaldi's performance as.Twelve is a master's class in performance. Thirteen is weak. I still think it's valid, but it's been weak. We differ in opinion on the developments of the last half of Series Twelve, which raise the stakes and the mystery, and set up the chief cause of the Doctor's mortality...hubris. HOWEVER... Your perceptive analysis of Matt Smith's Doctor is perfect. You've cracked the code, created an annotated version with an appendix and a concordance, and produced it in a beautiful embossed leather-bound volume with gold-leaf lettering and edging. Beautifully done, B. :)

I relate to him a lot. He's got a dark side, and he tries to hide and uses humor to bury deep down. You can tell when he was giving his speech to the parasite God. He started crying because he was going through his dark past. When he snaps, it's aggressive and honest scary. When's he's silly, he's Overtop. Sometimes annoying, but he is entertaining himself. When he's hyped up or excited, he feels indestructible and grand. I'm similar to this, and this is why I connect to him so well.

Y'know, I've always considered 11 my favourite Doctor despite being raised on the classic series and I never quite knew why that was. Until this video. The way in which each of his series' portrays a certain aspect of life as we grow older is exactly what made me fall in love with his character and I couldn't put my finger on it till now. Smith's era aired during the time in which I was growing out of childhood and into a teenager. Thinking about it now, it's almost as if his Doctor grew up with me. And by the time I became an adult, he was gone. Instead the harsh reality of life kicked in and things started becoming darker. Feels very symbolic of Capaldi's Doctor.

If you care you’ll read this, if you don’t, just don’t read it genius! My first Doctor was Hartnell at 8 years old, I saw only a few of his episodes that came on TV, all with Ian, Barbara and Susan. I loved his Doctor! My second doctor was Eccleston, I saw few of his episodes, and let me say, I thought he was fantastic! My third being Tennant, I saw many of his episodes (not fully), but scattered, this was at 9 years old. And then came Matt Smith, I was 10 or 11 the first time I saw his, they merged in my memory with tennant, as I only watched snippets of multiple episodes (TV time I was allowed), and so nothing made sense, but I thought they were brilliant. Then in 2013 I think it was, season 7 was advertised for release. My family and I decided to watch it as it was being released, the first time I had watched it all the way through, in order. At first, I was extremely upset, because Amy and Rory “died”, and at the time, Amy was my favourite companion, and I loved Rory as well. So I went into 7B, much like the Doctor, depressed about the situation, and giving up on Doctor Who, but then Clara came along in Victorian London, and it was so beautiful, and magical. From then on Matt was my Doctor. I was devastated when Clara died in that Christmas special, only to find she cane back 😂 And then I watched random episodes of different new Who Doctors randomly until 2014, for Capaldi’s first season, which I admit I hated on release (but I love now 😂), so had a break from Doctor Who until I was 15, which was when my brother and I watched all of New Who in order. This fuelled my love for the series, I noticed so many things, and I loved observing different themes and details, and analysing situations, writing, music and characters! I loved it so much, that I decided to watch all of classic who when I was 16, I’m 18 now, and on the third Doctor 😂 But I loved certain stories, and characters of classic who, as much as new who, and I LOVED revisiting my first Doctor, The first Doctor, William Hartnell 😪🙂 ... until they ruined it with season 11 and 12, especially that last episode 😑 In short, Matt was everything I loved! He was child-like, fairytale, compassionate, magical, free, funny, awkward (in a good way), humany wumany, timey wimey, and so fun! He was light and dark and beautifully transitioned from silly to serious, and his chemistry with his companions were incredible! Matt’s acting was inspiring!!! That why he’ll always be my Doctor 🙂

Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor. Thank you for the analysis of a story of a lifetime. He was the funniest charismatic doctor with his companions and the stories didn't have so many deaths than David Tenant era. A little story: I started watching Doctor who since 2010 on Netflix, I loved so much the show that I decided to stop watching at the end of season 4 believing the next doctor (Matt Smith) won't be that good. 10 years after until 2020 I bought the Doctor Who collection on DVD 2018 edition, so I said "why not, I'll watch it" So I started again with season 1. When I reached the ending of season 4 I was so depressed of so many deaths in the episodes, together with me afraid to die from the Coronavirus and so much news about the death toll of the pandemic, watching Matt Smith episodes was so soothing and enjoyable, I don't regret waiting so long. He will always be my doctor and the fact that Chris chibnall completely just made his whole doctors being and part of his character are not even important by how the whole regeneration sing just killed me and breaks my heart. I just watched the Matt Smith ear again and I still to this day SOB at the Time of the Doctor. Chris chibnall ruined it. Is sexy more personally in my opinion because Matt Smith is my doctor 11 is mine and he just completely upended the end of his story.

Chelsea the timeless child changes NOTHING about Eleven. How he saw the universe, or how he thought of himself. The fact that he wasn’t the last, was never gonna be the last, doesn’t change the fact that he thought he was. If that were the case, then 12 would have already ruined 11’s arc.
@chelsea1062

@@odile8701 what I meant was that it was supposed to be the end of their generations and then the time Lords gave him Our Generations but then they're turning around and saying that she always had that ability no matter what. So to me it was like everything 11 was worrying about like living a little bit childish cuz he knew it was his last regeneration of until the end was kind of pointless if they're saying that the doctor could always regenerate again regardless of what Clara did to help him get more Generations so he could have the Twelfth Doctor
@odile8701
@odile8701 4 жыл бұрын
Chelsea since the regeneration limit was always artificial (always something the time lords imposed on themselves, rather than something unavoidable) I assumed they put that limit on the Doctor. The Timelords have the same power the Doctor does, changed themselves genetically to match her, so whatever they do to themselves should work on the Doctor. So, if that were true (and I don’t see why it wouldn’t be) then nothing at all changes. The Timelords still needed to remove that limitation, and/or give him more regeneration energy, whatever it is they do to block natural regeneration after a set number. And again; the Doctor still believes this was his last go round. We always knew the show was going to continue. We always knew 11 wasn’t the end. Doesn’t change what 11 knew. Doesn’t change 11’s choices. Any more than 12’s birth changed anything regarding 11’s life.

Nine was my first, Ten is my doctor, but I certainly never disliked Eleven. It always perplexed me that people did. But your explanation of series 5 makes a lot of the complaints more understandable. We here in America need to remember that this is a kid's show across the pond. It's not wrong for it to be wacky and on occasion magical. It's not wrong for this show to sometimes be a fairy tale. After all, the best fairy tales don't ignore the dark. They illuminate it.

This was my Doctor. All of my friends and family think Tennant is the best but I grew up watching and remembering Doctor Who. My nana died during this and the message about growing up and learning on how to deal with loss resonated with me. His run finished when I left primary school and moved on into Year 7. I have never lost interest in Doctor Who and Smith was the greatest to play the role of New Who.

I saw Day and Time a day or so ago, and Deep Breath afterwards.. I had always felt like his story was about growing up, how he can't just run away whenever he wants to. The moment Clara was talking with 11th on the phone.. I cried a little when he regenerated, only to snort when 12th popped up quickly. But then seeing 11th one last time.. talking about how she should help the current Doctor because he was so confused ad scared.. and how he himself will miss Clara... I cried so much that after sleeping and then waking up, I continued to cry about it... Now I'm doing it again for the third time!! Not even Tenth's regeneration or when Rose is ripped away from him or him saying goodbye to her made me cry this much.. The way he cherished his dear ones moves me so much.. kissing them on their forehead or cheek, no matter what gender they are.. his goofy, dorky traits.. the way he could ramble.. The way he was.. As someone with autism 1 (high-functioning autism), empath, INFJ, avoidant, physically stiff (not robotic stiff though) can easily understand atleast most people, getting overwhelmed by both my own and others feelings on top of being a little sensitive to sounds (I can't filter sounds out), having a hard time showing more intense feelings and bottles them up so people don't have to hear me cry all the time, accepting the fact that most other people with autism that I know won't be able to take responsibility for some of their actions thus I am forced to accept it, leaving a lot of events with just emptiness... I feel so lonely, so when I watched 11th's seasons, I was still sad about 10th leaving, but 11th grew on me rather quickly. He felt like a friend. A friend I wish I had. I have a hard time moving on, because of stigma, crippling feelings, loneliness and etc, so this was really interesting to follow. And it got so real at the end.. I hope I can become strong enough to face friends again, whom I haven't met in years.. I don't know why I'm rambling here, but it just got so real this time, more than with any other series.. I just love how 11th accepts people as they are (since he is alien himself so) and cherish them. I wanna do the same, but my own nature is against me at the moment. I do hope that you all will be able to face your fears and come in terms with stuff you had a harder time accepting before. I just wanna wish people happiness, so they have no time to discriminate others, and more time to do things that's better for them.

Although not my first Doctor (that one was Christopher Eccleston), Matt Smith certainly is and most likely always will be my favourite Doctor. I mean I know a lot about the Classic Who incarnations and as far as I can tell I adore Peter Davison's take on that role, to the point when he became my second favourite Doctor of all time. With that being said, I love all of the Doctor's incarnations (asides from David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker. Heck, even Colin Baker's 6th Doctor is more bearable than these two), but Matt Smith is MY Doctor.

11 is my favorite. When i was 9 my father passed away and i was in a dark place but then i got into doctor who. I was to young to ever watch the episodes in order but 11 taught me lessons i will always hold dear. He taught me to always speak with joy and comopassion but to always have fury and fire to my words as well. He taught me that youre never to old to act like a child. But most importantly he was my friend. Thanks 11.

I think the beauty of the new runs of the show is that especially for 11 a specific theme comes back to him at the very end to save him, the idea of silence falling goes back to the 11th hour and it goes on to be the thing he fights for in the time of the doctor. He ends up fighting for the safety of the timlords for 1000 years in the village of Christmas, fighting for his silence and their safety, he needed silence to fall when the question was asked.

Eleven was my first and favorite doctor. Despite all the flaws the later part of his run had, I enjoyed every minute I had with this Doctor, and to be honest, I don’t think the series was ever quite the same for me without him. My brother recently explained why Matt Smith was his favorite, and I always thought that’s why I enjoyed him too; Matt Smith seemed to capture the whole idea of the Doctor being a ‘madman in a box’ better than anyone else. But I think you did a fanatic job captured the underlining theme of Eleven that I never could see, even as a fan. Very well done, I applaud you! 👏🏻 👏🏻
