I've owned Volvos for 38years. Started with a 1985 Turbo Diesel 745 (242,000 miles later) next 1995 945 Turbo red block (224,00 miles later) now 2009 S80 3.2. I've upgraded all of them with IPD suspension (Sway bars, Moog lowering springs, Bilstein or Koni shocks, upgraded poly bushings. Lower, YES, a tag stiffer riide: ABSOLUTELY...Punishing NO!! Fun on ramp or canyon carving...No Comparison to stock. Lower ride height is a bit more difficult for my 71yr old knees/back. Something I discovered way to late in life for my S80, was the wonder of Solar windshield tint...Really reduced inside temps and dashboard radiant heat. Next choice will probably be an S90 T6 or T8...that'll have to wait, as I only have 145,000 miles on the S80....Swedish Brick has been my go to website for help over the years.

Dynaudio is pretty decent as it is. Sound deadeing makes it outstanding! Also I do got a spare in it. So rather buy a second hand spare then mickey mouse a compressor to the battery. Also missing cover. Get a decent tire, 30mm lover Eibach pro springs, facelifted grill, front and rear lamps, polestar wheel, decent exhaust also upgraded Volvo R design steering wheel. Do small spacers, and proper wheel alignment. Also you can reduce the understeer with thicker rear anti roll bar + 4 new proper drop link. I also installed front strut brace as the front was flexing a bit during fast cornering. You can also replace the sunroof seal around the glass. Made my car much more quiet at high speed.

I've had my 07 S80 V8 since 2015. First thing I did was change the exhaust to a cat back system that replaced those pitiful stock exhaust tips. Now it looks and sounds the part. The 4C suspension is a waste of money and we leave it in the "sport" mode all the time. Coming from 30 years of BMWs the handling is marginal at best but it's my wife's car and she's ok with it. Also ditched the air pump for the spare. Didn't want the wife to struggle with a flat, or whomever might stop to help her, with that stock system and installed the temporary spare from another S80 I bought off Ebay. It's a smaller diameter but Volvo says it's ok to get you to a tire repair spot. My favorite accessories are the active cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and folding outside mirrors. Never use the sunroof, fold down rear seats, or ventilated front seats. The car had the windows tinted when we bought it and also the dealer installed Garmin (never use it and stow it in the glovebox). We also have a 2010 Volvo V70 R-Design which sits lower, has sport suspension, and definitely handles better than the S80, primarily used as a dog hauler. These are our 7th and 8th Volvo's and are now considering adding a third (XC60 or XC90) to replace our VW Touareg.

Thank you!! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video and I appreciate you commenting! These S80s really are awesome rides! If by any chance you're looking to add some extra depth to your sound system, I recently uploaded a tutorial that details how to wire up an aftermarket sub and amp in these cars. The process was surprisingly easy and straightforward, so if you haven't already, make sure to check that video out too! Happy motoring!

I have a 09 4.4 and the clinking noise in the front suspension at low speeds wasn't the suspension at all but the front brakes, I got a Brake caliper hardware set by Skandix from FCP.... Yeah yeah save it...😅 And it worked, those slider pins rubber inserts were plastic at this point and the two springs were barely holding on.. great car, daily driver and almost at 140k miles and absolutely nothing wrong.

The thought has crossed my mind! I've been thinking a muffler bypass valve may be the solution to having the best of both worlds, but haven't been able to justify the cost or time that would go into that yet. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

My first modification (10 years ago) was the larger rear sway bar and powerflex bushings. Car corners better, but could use even more bar diameter. I never listen to the stereo. The engine note is all I need

I like the original comfort suspension and I do not have the 4c. Absolutely no noises from suspension at all even in low speeds. I also did put a little bit taller tires and it is even better comfort wise. Also the Dynaudio sounds quite nice. I would like to try to upgrade it but I do not know how as there are so many more speakers and additional amp under the front seat. I think mine has a air compressor in the spare wheel well.
@RideOnBudget
@RideOnBudget 2 жыл бұрын
Good to know. I've never driven one with the fixed suspension, but I'd be curious to see how it rides. That's cool about fitting taller tires on yours, what size did you end up going for? And are your wheels 17s or 18s? As for the stereo upgrade, I've read that there are many hurdles to jump in order to switch over to a Dynaudio set up. I ended up swapping out the speakers for aftermarket ones on my car, and added a subwoofer to the system as well. It really made a huge difference, so if you're wanting some more dimension to your system, that may be a route worth considering. Check out the other videos on my channel, I made one which concisely details how to add a subwoofer to the factory system.

@@RideOnBudget I dont know if there are any other kind of a fixed suspension, but the specs say it is a comfort suspension in my car. As for the tyres currently I have the brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 5's in size 245/45ZR18. I absolutely do not know why this is not the original size as it works much better. And the speedometer is exactly spot on with this size. I don't know if I did got undestood about the Dynaudio. I ment to say that my car has the 12 speaker Dynaudio and I have looked couple of times to upgrading it. It is really hard to find an aftermarket speakers to it. I'm just afraid that it really needs to be better and not downgrade. As for the subwoofer it is not an option for me as I still need the whole trunk space couple of times in a month.

The 4C electronically adjustable suspension is incompatible with aftermarket springs. 4C interacts with all the rest of the car's systems and readings, so it's calculations will be off, which ultimately throws off way more than just the suspension (throttle response, shift timing, traction/stability, ABS, and AWD). If you didn't already, you may want to unplug them at each corner so the computer isn't using invalid information. Also want to add that clunks in front suspension, for me when all else was done and I had no idea what to do, it was due to the poorly designed upper bearing in the strut tower.
@RideOnBudget
@RideOnBudget 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info on the strut tower bearing. Did you ever replace yours? And if so, have you found them to sound like that since new? Or do they just wear out way too easily? As for the 4C, 10s of thousands of miles later, it still seems to be in order. Each mode has it's own unique feel to it, and with that, it's own set of advantages and disadvantages. While the mating of the shocks and struts to the springs may not be ideal, it seems to work well enough. I have yet to drive any other P3 Volvos with the adjustable suspension, so it's impossible for me to gauge how different it all may be. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@RideOnBudget I replaced 3 times and it always kept happening within a couple months. NYC has some really bad roads, I have resorted to routing my commute on newer roads. Apparently there is an updated bearing (labeled for XC90) but it seems elusive. Thats according to FCP at least. They also advised me about the lowering springs on the 4C, but if it seems fine at this point, I may throw springs in there next time I have the shocks out for the bearings. What brand spring did you use?
@RideOnBudget
@RideOnBudget 2 жыл бұрын
@@lotoinelegatsby4143 Thanks for the information! I may have to do some further looking into on those updated bearings. It's a bummer replacing yours with the standard ones didn't fix anything longer term, but I appreciate getting that information second hand from you, instead of having to figure it out myself the hard way myself! The roads where I'm at in California aren't that great either unfortunately, so I can relate. When it comes to the my lowering springs, a previous owner was responsible for their installation, so I'm really not sure what brand they may be. I actually didn't even know the car was lowered until after buying it, and I'm not sure if the owner before me knew it was lowered either. The springs are red in color though, for what it's worth. I also should mention, the owner before me had recently replaced the front struts before selling the car. While I'm not certain, I'm assuming that was done after the car was lowered. So, just as a fair warning, the shocks and especially front struts may not take well to being lowered after sitting at a different ride height for so long. Years ago I lowered a 940 Turbo on stock struts/shocks and it totally toasted them. It all worked out though, because it gave me an excuse to upgrade that car to Konis! ;)

@RideOnBudget
@RideOnBudget 2 жыл бұрын
That's a bummer, but at least you've got the sound of the V8 to fall back on! It's unusual that all of the channels would go out at once, usually if an amplifier is going bad it will start to drop a channel at a time. When you get a chance, check your connections to make sure everything is tight, and see if any related fuses have popped too. Hopefully it's just one of those two things.

@@DakahriGT Ah, that's a bummer... It may be the amplifier in that case. I think the amp is under the passenger seat. Unfortunately, water can get down there if your sunroof drains are clogged, I've had that issue myself, but so far my amp's been okay (knock on wood). I'm in the process of making a video on how to go about fixing that, so stay tuned. If the amp is shot, your best bet may be to get the part number off it and try and find a replacement at a wrecker, or on eBay. Good luck with getting everything sorted out!
