Great video, I really loved Super Street Fighter 2 for the SNES.

Oddly enough, I prefer the 3DO version of SSF2 Turbo ever since I first played it. It still has a couple issues, but overall it's an amazing port.

No, that makes perfect sense. For the time, that was the best version of SF2 you could get at home. It was truly unbeatable until the Saturn and Playstation arrived in 1995.

It's hard to overstate how enormous is was to have Street Fighter 2 at home. This game mroe or less revived the arcade market for another 5 years and psuedo created the fighting game genre...and to have ports that looked about 75% as good as the arcade at home was huge!!!!

That pc engine port puts the others to shame, graphically. The animation was super crisp.
@Sinn0100
@Sinn0100 Жыл бұрын
What? No it did not. Further, it's missing parallax scrolling making it look incredibly flat. It has no Turbo options, limited move set, is in a lower resolution than the Genesis port, has less animations than the Genesis port (technically the Snes port as well) and less going on in the backgrounds. Example- Chun Li's stage there are more people on bikes. The sound was good and if all you had was the PC Engine...it's competent. It is not the best by a mile. Addendum- The very best 16-bit port of Street Fighter II is the fan updated Genesis versions of both (Champion and Super). They feature all of the arcade backgrounds, best color, crystal clear arcade perfect sound, and the sprites are a lot closer to the arcades. It never made sense the Genesis port ran as it did as Capcom's CPS-1 cab has almost identical hardware to Sega's 16-bit machine.

@@Sinn0100 I mean...it was a straight port of Champion Edition, just like the Sharp X68000 one. Did you really expect multiple speed options?
@Sinn0100
@Sinn0100 2 ай бұрын
@@mortenera2294 Why not? The TG-16/PC Engine/Core Grafx had many, many games that had crazy amounts of sprites flying all over the screen without issue. We know SF2SC for the PC Engine does not suffer from slowdown or sprite flicker either. No, NEC Avenue didn't want to use a bigger ROM, that's it. My God man look at some of the Neo Geo AES conversions on the TG-16. We're talking games with bigger rosters and huge software scaling effects on screen that were not emulated by anyone else. Yes, the TG-16 could run SF2SC Turbo. As far as the Sharp X68000...I don't know why you brought that in this discussion. It could have run Championship Edition at twice the speed the Genesis could at max. That computer even made the mighty Neo Geo AES/MVS look tame by comparison. It actually had an arcade perfect port of SF2T with speed options. Addendum- Nope, this is simply NEC and Hudson completely oblivious as to what the gaming market actually wanted. This is one of the biggest reasons they failed here in the states. Case in point- Did you know Mortal Kombat was supposed to be a TG-16 exclusive? NEC decided in all of their wisdom that the game was not worth the investment....can you imagine what that would have done here? That's the killer app that could have saved them at least until the God awful PCFX released, yuck.

Since there is often confusion because games in this era are listed in “megs”, I’ll point out that it’s megabits not megabytes. Since 1 byte = 8 bits and the use of mega as a prefix in computer storage refers to 1,048,576; some conversion reveals 32 megabits is equivalent to 4 Megabytes. That is still considered a huge amount of ROM for the time and a large part of why cartridges were more expensive than CDs. I think my dad paid $80 for my copy of Mortal Kombat II on the SNES.

I’ll admit, I was wrong about the soundtrack on special champion edition. The soundtrack on special champion edition is way better than the snes versions of world warrior and turbo. But for super street fighter II, the soundtrack was way better on snes.

You repeatedly put down something being missing from a certain version of the game as being due to the limitations of the cartridge, but not everything missing from an arcade port is down to the limitations of the cartridge. Sometimes, the console itself is lacking. For example, the music starting over between each round in SNES Super Streetfighter is not due to the cartridge lacking the requisite memory. It has the music on the cartridge doesn't it? So the cartridge isn't too small to not have the music. If the round doesn't end, the music keeps playing, right? So the cartridge isn't too small to prevent the music from playing all the way through if the round is long enough (and you can turn off the round time limiter, so it's not that the music has to end after 99 seconds, either). So why can't the music just keep playing between rounds, then? If anything, it was due to a lack of system RAM requiring the whole level, music and all, be loaded again between rounds (to the extent there was a technical reason at all, rather than it just being a choice Capcom made, which also may be true for all I know). Another example: Parallax scrolling isn't missing from the PC Engine version because the HuCard doesn't have enough memory. It was a 20 Megabit card, comparable enough to the sizes of the SNES and Genesis versions of the same game which both had all the scrolling the arcade game had. The reason certain bits of scrolling are missing from the PCE version is because the PCE doesn't have the same ability to manipulate multiple layers of backgrounds that the other two consoles had.

tg16 isnt actually 16bit. its 8bit with some 16bit gpu features, but it's an 8 bit system. the parallax wasn't really an issue of the hu card, it was the 8bit cpu. this is pretty much an 8 bit port.

What's this "Genesis quality sound" business? You do know the port for the Genesis was the Snes version crammed into a Genesis cart right? They didn't use the proper sound drivers and the voices sound terrible. The sound chip inside the CPS-1 is almost identical to that of the Genesis. The CPS-1 cab is Genesis quality sound. You need to go look up the fan fix of both Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition and Super Street Fighter II. Not only is the sound arcade perfect, but the colors are better than the Snes, all backgrounds have been fixed, and it can be played on a bone stock Genesis. Bonus- Go look up the fan fix for Mortal Kombat on the Genesis. It features enlarged sprites, arcade perfect sound, arcade perfect levels, and without any slowdown on stock hardware.

@VOAN

You're probably thinking of easy mode. In each home version of Street Fighter II, if you play on the more easier difficulty you will always get a Congrat screen and no ending. If you play on four stars or higher difficulty you get to see the character ending. If you beat the game at the hardest difficulty you get to see both the character ending and the animated ending. If you beat the game at the highest difficulty and without losing you get to see both those and a hidden artwork sometimes even blooper endings depending on which version and region you got of the game. Blooper ending is an ending credit segments where all character sprites interact funnily with one another.

It's a small thing that doesn't affect the port in any meaningful way, but the SNES port of Super SF2 not having the announcer saying "fight" or having some other sound effect in its place is surprisingly strange.
@Alan_Chapman
@Alan_Chapman Жыл бұрын
I’m having Mandela Effect because I don’t remember the announcer not saying “Fight”. I guess I’ve played so many versions of these games over the years they’re all blending together. One time I was humming Ken’s theme and booted up Super Turbo and only then realized that my memory of that song was the SNES SFII version and not the transposed and remixed Super SF2 version.
@thegreathadoken6808

It DOESN'T affect it in any meaningful way, that's right, but you try telling that to 13 year old me when the game came out for the console. It may seem trivial now, but the voiced "Round One....FIGHT!" announcement was iconic, and for it to be missing seemed as crazy at the time as, let's say, a Mario 64 port not having "it's-a me...Mario!" at the title screen might seem now.

4:23secs - "Soundtrack on the genesis is good but not good as the SNES version". When you said that, I stopped watching the video. EVERYONE knows the Megadrive version of the music is closer to the arcade than the SNES. You may have grew up playing the SNES version but at the end of the day the megadrive version is closer and superior. Now, if you talked about Super SF2 then the SNES music destroys the Megadrive version.

He says quite a few things that don't add up. He didn't talk about the slowdown on the Snes. He didn't talk about the Genesis having the ability to move faster than the Snes (by 2 stars). He claimed the PC Engine had parallax scrolling in some levels (no). He said you had to cut the Genesis a break because "that's Genesis sound." We know why the voices on the Genesis sound like they do and that isn't because "Genesis can't do clear voices." He doesn't talk about the Genesis running in a higher resolution either. He needs to go look at the fan fix SFII for the Genesis and have his mind blown. It has better graphics, music, arcade perfect sound, and much better use of color than the Snes on bone stock hardware. The guy even acknowledged how close the CPS-1 cab was to the Genesis...but still believes that's Genesis sound.
