I am the 2nd owner of my 2016 GT3RS - Had 14000km when I bought it - Ive had the car 3 yrs - now has 80000km (ie 50000miles) - Plenty of road and track miles/km - Love the car - is designed to be driven so I drive it - I don't care about resale as I have no intention of selling the car.

IMO that shows someone who can afford to drive the cars he's buying. He's not fussed about re-sale value, and he's allowing himself to enjoy the car without restriction. More people need to be like this and enjoy them! At this rate the manufacturers will only give you a 30k mile warranty as that's all people seem to do . . . .
@HansBrodiAutomotive
@HansBrodiAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
True, I agree a 100% but I think with some of the wealthy buyers it is impossible to do 175k miles. If you own 30 cars like many rich guys do 3k miles per car is a lot

I do not share the view that people “need to” be like you say. Each to their own. There is nothing wrong or off about wanting to savour the moment by using the car sparingly, and really appreciate those special moments. The icing on the cake is preservation of the value, and with some luck, appreciation too.

Usually, the gearbox will need to be rebuilt every 100,000km, replacing all the bearings and some of the gears. The costs are about 5,000 GBP to 10,000GBP, depends on using brand new parts or used parts, or replaced the entire gearbox. (Incl. labour cost) The engine will need to be rebuilt between 120,000km to 150,000km, replacing all the gaskets, bearings, cleanings valves... The costs are about 4,000 GBP to 6,000 GBP, depends on using brand new or used parts. There's a great chance that the GT3 owner has spent his money twice as much as the GT3 current value... These "ultimate" owners really know what they are paying for, and they know what they are seeking. Respect!

There is an even more famous 996 turbo with over 500k miles that was specially adapted by an F1 parts delivery company to take parts from F1 constructors in the UK to f1 European races. overnight. It would famously drive trough the night to deliver parts before the race faster than anything else! Would be great to see a film on that car and see where it is. By the way you mentioned your 996 40 jahre was basically a Carerra S, there was no C2S in 996 only a C4S.

Whoever the chap who did the miles was, he's a legend and should be honoured for actually using these things as intended. Only comment I disagree with, the idea that for Porsche's in general 175,000 miles is high. Yes for GT products but these cars are designed to go on and on and in Germany I think they'd think we were a little odd for thinking that mileage is high.

I think once you get over the garage queen mileage ‘limits’ it doesn’t make a lot of difference, by that I mean once you pass the low and average mileage of a ‘collector’ car, as the miles grow they make less and less effect on value, so either have a garage queen to look at and as a arguable investment or just drive and enjoy, for me the miles of driving make much more sense and great memories than just an occasional drive or polish.

Really looking into a used 996 or 997 4S and I honestly think the higher mileage ones are probably more reliable and have probably had the things that go wrong already taken care of. Love the video!

I have a feeling that 996 is going to be sold soon. Have you seen the DeMan Motorsport 4.5L 565bhp straight swap engine for the Cayman GT4/Spyder? I think it’s $30,000 but unlocks that cars full GT potential.

My dad has a standard 997 carrera S. bought it to have fun with then after 4 months the pandemic hit. We were due to head to europe, goodwood, silverstone, Stowe car show, Bicester heratige shows and all. Would’ve been great fun. The 997 is one of the best cars for the money whatever generation

Legendary Mezger motor!! It was designed to run in LM and GT class races for 24 hours on end after all. Standard road mileage should be a walk in the park, but kudos to the owners for putting this car to work. Its practically been free to drive outside of the maintenance.

What a refreshing story. Amazing to think the previous owner created the equivalent of 75 years of GT3 driving experiences into 13 years compared to the average GT3 owner. Life is too short to keep these things stored. I would love to have the resources to do the same. I bet there has been some serious expenditure on maintenance though.
