( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2020 Hyundai Nexo is a car unlike anything Hyundai's built before, when you take its styling, technology and propulsion into account. In fact, it's so advanced, it could just be the way forward for many of Hyundai's future models.

I have the 2019 Nexo. I wanted hydrogen car and this was the only SUV-ish size available. The cup holder is placed in a slightly awkward position for the driver (not a big deal). There are a lot of buttons but you get used to most of them. TBH - I never read the owner's manual and haven't used most features (including self-park). My husband loves the smart cruise control feature and I like the blind spot monitoring. I probably wouldn't have bought it if I didn't already live near fueling stations. Sometimes fueling can get complicated. especially when those stations are down. I'm generally very happy with it.

Usual range on a full fill is between 320-359 for me so far (depends on the pressure at the station, the newer stations are high capacity too so once we get more of those that should be a thing of the past and we’ll always get our top range of maybe 360-370. Some people get 390. Die isn’t on surface streets gives more range too because while you can’t drive on the battery alone, it helps it along and regenerates energy from braking and slowing. All it will take is time to build the infrastructure. Remember, they said the same about electric cars as well when they first came out. Here in BC we have had "experimental" buses for over 10 years with fuel cells (Ballard Power). I think these are a better solution simply of the refill time vs electric. Makes going long distances the same as using fossil fuels as opposed to waiting for an electric to fully charge (65-75 minutes at its fastest, with a 250 Kwh Supercharger, and those aren't everywhere). That's an extra 3-4 hours from Vancouver to Calgary.

@@rvdrivingforce418 I don't know about this technology. It seems like a bad idea. The efficiency is 10 %. Compared to purely electric vehicles that have 70 % - 80 % is just not good. You need electricity to produce hydrogen. There is 45 % lost energy in this process. Furthermore the hydrogen still needs to be converted back to electricity resulting in other 45% loss. That leaves just 10 % of energy left of the power that was put in. These hydrogen vehicles still need batteries, might aswell use only batteries.

@@Jmonique2006 I'm not exactly sure, But I did see someone or a site say that Mercedes Benz announced they wanted to work with Hyundai at a auto show or whatever it is the brands have. I believe it was the CEO of Benz who said that. Possibly maybe a partnership. Like a good example is the Ford fusion of 11 that I think Ford and idk if it was volvo got together. Which shows you why even tho that's a small Ford and small ones aren't as good as the big Ford's that car tends to be pretty reliable for a Ford and American brand. Im not big on European brands but at one point Benz were very reliable and had long lasting engines. Mostly the ones made in germany with German vin numbers and not made in Mexico or America like they are now (no shade at them they just don't have the same quality controls in place) Maybe they see the progress Hyundai has made and see how reliable they have become and see the threat they can pose to other brands and want to be apart of it.

Folks, I don’t get it. Lack of hydrogen infrastructure should not be a problem. All Hyundai dealerships should have an Electrolysis (to fracture H2O) and storage tank (to store the hydrogen) from which Nexo customers can come by and fuel up. In addition, similar to the way I get liquid propane delivered to my house and stored in a 100 gallon tank to be used throughout the winter, can’t a similar setup be available where a delivery company like Air Products can come to my house and top off a 200 gallon tank every 2-3 weeks? Filling up the Nexo would be as simple as refilling a liquid propane tank (obviously with the safety precautions necessary for hydrogen gas dispensing). It would be done at home and, for long drives, at any Hyundai dealership in the U.S. Forget gas stations. That’s last century’s solution.

I'm honestly surprised oil companies haven't invested more in infrastructure. If BEVs become the norm gas stations are essentially dead, but if fuel cells become the norm they will still have a product to sell to consumers.

This car is wicked Pissah! Good for Hyundai they have been doing some cool different stuff for a bit now. I can’t remember the exact year but I bought one of the first Hyundai’s they brought to the U.S in the 80’s at least I think it was when they first came here, but it was a good little car. I’ve had a couple different Hyundai products over the years(mostly as a second car for commuting) and they have been un-killable if taken care of!! One Sonata I had got passed in the family to 4 different people and did it’s job every day.

I have wanted the industry to go H2 for a long time now. I know that H2 is a volatile substance. At just 4% concentration it is flammable, at just 8% it can be explosive. Many people associate H2 with the Hindenburg and that is understandable. Easing those fears is going to be tough sell. One worry I would have, in this country at least, is that there are plenty of idiots that still insist on smoking while fueling. That is just a disaster waiting to happen. I think that if there was a nationwide H2 infrastructure established, those stations would have to be along the lines of what Or and NJ have, full service attendants. That of course would add to the cost of the fuel. All in all, I do not see this as being mainstream across the country for at least 50 years and it will take some serious kick backs from the federal government to make that happen.

If the car can park itself, just program it to interact with the fuel station -- car parks in an exact spot, a robotic arm extends which finds the fueling port, iris opens -- all connections are verified tight before any fuel begins to dispense. Problem solved.

You talk about how batteries lose their potential in the cold, but gases expand amd contract as well as change their volume and pressure according to temperature. If it gets too cold, the gas will be more dense than usual while in the heat it will be less dense and take up more volume.

Fuel cells have an added advantage....they can take advantage of the intermittent nature of wind and solar. if you use wind and solar to make hydrogen, it allows you to effectively store their intermittent outputs of energy. Also, fuel cells allow apartment dwellers than cannot charge their cars to enjoy the clean energy. While pure electric cars are more efficient, they require steady sources of electricity, long charge times and you have to be able to charge them at home to get the cost savings. I hope fuel cells win this battle.
