The #ToyotaCHR started development as a vehicle for Scion, Toyota's youth orientated brand that was killed off in 2017 due to slow sales. Because of its roots, the #CHR had some noticeable quirky design details and it has carried over into the transition as a #Toyota model. For 2020, the #CoupeHighRider crossover gets some nice updates, mainly to address lack of a decent head unit and a lack of nice features. However, AWD is still not an option and the entry level Toyota SUV still lacks decent grunt and a usable trunk and back seat.

Naturally aspirated engine is key here. Will be reliable. Very agile to drive and handle. Comfortable seats for a long ride. Looks good to me. Is it to slow ? Would have to drive it know for sure. I drive an 07 civic with 140 hp and im fine with that. It also has a all important naturally aspirated engine. Direct injection turbos will not last as long.

The CH-R is indeed all compromised, and shows its Scion origins with the overly quirky design. Toyota really needs to offer it with a better engine, such as a 2.0T, and add AWD, to get it to make some sense in my mind. As it is, there is just some weird style, and little substance.

Would defeat the purpose of the hierarchy in the line up. Put this at 200 hp and everything else above it has to increase in power. Also the general buyer wouldn't be revving it to use all 200+ hp so that's why Toyota didn't do it. What it needs is the Corollas 2.0. since the CHR and Lexus UX use this same platform and underpinnings

The base Toyota Corolla L with the ancient 1.8 liter engine & CVT has a better power to weight ratio than this 2020 Toyota C-HR. That "boring" base Corolla is faster & more fun to drive than this C-HR and Corolla sedan has slightly more passenger & cargo space. One word reliability. A naturally aspirated 4cyl Toyota engine it’s gonna last you way longer than anything with a turbo in it. I really don’t know what he expected from a 2L four-cylinder non turbo engine these are not race cars so it’s on par with anything else with the same type of engine. It’s a good looking car way better than anything else in the class. Some of the vehicles that he’s comparing it to I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole Kia or Jeep 👎🏻. This car is definitely not for a family, but I don’t think that’s who Toyota marketing this car to. It’s for single folks looking for a good daily driver that gets decent gas mileage and gonna last you a long time. It’s actually a fun car to drive.

They CAN be good if they’re well-built and well-tuned. Accelerating uphill with a CVT, for example, is amazing since it’s smooth all the way without ever needing to shift gears. The problem usually occurs when you try to quickly accelerate or decelerate. You feel that so-called “rubberbanding effect” from the CVT having to suddenly change ratios (since it can’t just drop/upshift a gear like regular autos). This combined with poor response to you putting your foot down is what sucks the life out of cars with CVT’s (usually).

I dont know. Honda and toyota does not seem to care about quality as much as they used to. Engine and transmission issues in both cars. Hyundai and Kia seem to be getting better while honda and toyota seem to not care like they did back in the 1990s. I have a 2020 Civic. The sheet metal on top of the doors by the roof area is so cheap and thin, IT LEFT DENTS only after a few car washes. Many other people with 2016 to 2020 civics are complaining about this too. My car also had zero rattles the first day I drove it, and now three months later has several rattles. My friend's old 2008 civic has zero rattles for the four years he had it and the fit and finish was better than my car. also been in some newer Toyota cars and they feel cheaper versus the older ones I've been in. are hondas and toyota one of the more reliable new cars you can buy? yes. but are they as good now in comparison to the 1990s? not really.
